St. Johnsville, July 17, - Lester Kretser, aged 20 years, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Kretser, met with a shocking accident which caused his death yesterday afternoon. Young Kretser was engaged at work by Howard E. Snell on the Salem Snell farm at West St. Johnsville. He jumped on a horse which he had been warned not to ride and rode to the barn. The horse was partly harnessed and turned suddenly, striking a load of-hay. This threw Kretser to the floor and the horse started and ran about a quarter of a mile westwards on the state road, dragging Kretser, whose foot had caught in a trace as he fell. Eugene Peeler, who was riding east on a motorcycle from Little Falls, stopped the animal and picked up Kretser, who breathed only twice thereafter. He was carried into the residence of Frank Van Slyke.
The Snell family had notified Dr. C. P. Wagner, who immediately appeared in his motorcar. But. as stated, his services were of no avail and Coroner W. N. Simons was called. The body was taken to the undertaking rooms of J. H. Gammond on West Main street and later removed to his home on Lion avenue. Besides his parents he is survived by four sisters.
The funeral will be held Friday.
