 - Obituary (Evening Recorder, Amsterdam, NY, December 29, 1912)
  Eugenia Augusta Cramer, wife of John H. Deal, died Saturday morning at 6:45 o'clock at her home, 141 Spring street, of paralyasis, in the sixty-seventh year of her age. Nine weeks ago Mrs. Deal suffered a slight stroke of paralysis and in falling fractured her ankle. For four weeks she was unable to to step on the injured member. Five weeks ago Friday she recovered a sufficient strength to attempt to stand on it and was immediately attacked with a second stroke and since then she has rapidly failed.
  Mrs. Deal was born in the town of Florida. June 6, 1846. She remained a resident there until her marriage to Mr. Deal, July 4, 1865. The ceremony was performed at the home of the late General Brown in Minaville, immediately following the return of Mr. Deal from the Civil war. Since that time they have been residents of Amsterdam and vicinity. During her residence in this city she endeared herself to those with whom she came in contact because of her loving disposition and beautiful Christian character. She was a member of the First Reformed church and always took a deep interest in the welfare of the church. She was also a member of Artwel chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, and of the Women's Relief Corps of the G. A. R. Besides her husband she is survived by two sons. George B. Deal, of Amsterdam, and James H. Deal, of Scoia, four grandchildren, one great grandchild, one sister, Mrs. Adam Maser, of Schenectady, and one brother, Eugene Cramer, of Fort Johnson. The funeral will be held at the house Tuesday afternoon, at 2 o'clock, the Rev. Dr. J. R. Kyle of the First Reformed church officiating. Interment in Green Hill.

 - Obituary (Amsterdam Evening Recorder, NY, Monday, August 6, 1917)
  John H. Deal, a life long resident of Amsterdam, retired grocer, and veteran of the Civil war, died at his home, 2l Dewitt street, at 4 o'clock Sunday morning. He had been ill for nearly four weeks, although his death came unexpectedly. Had Mr. Deal lived until the fourth day of September, he would have been 75 years of age. He was born in the village of Amsterdam, at the corner of Academy and Market streets, being the youngest of 12 children born to Jeremiah and Rachael Ann Deal, all of whom are now dead.
   Mr. Deal spent his youth as a farmer, and when Lincoln issued his first call for volunteers in 1861, he was the 17th man from the village of Amsterdam to respond. He enlisted in the thirty-second New York volunteers. Company D. his captain being E. S. Young of Amsterdam, who lost his life in action and for whom Post Young, G. A. R., is named. Mr. Deal served two years and was wounded in the hand at Gaines' Mills, after which he received a disability discharge. Returning to Amsterdam he was married July 4, to Miss Augusta Cramer, who died December 28, 1912. He was married for the second time, September 1, 1915, to Mrs. Frances McNee, who survives him, together with two sons, George B., and James H., the latter of Scotia, also four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
   During his life in Amsterdam Mr. Deal was generally engaged in mercantile pursuits. For 16 years he and his son, John H., carried on the grocery business at the corner of Spring and McDonnell streets. Five years ago Mr. Deal retired from all active pursuits. He was an enthusiastic member of the G. A. R., and has been commander of Post Young. For years he has been the choice of the state department of the G. A. R. to represent the state at the national encampment as a New York delegate. Recently he was again appointed to this
position at the state encampment at Saratoga. He was a Mason, being a member of Welcome lodge, 829, F, and A. M. and was a Knight of Pythias, a member of Chuctanunda lodge, No. 100, K. of P.
   The funeral will he held tomorrow afternoon at the home, 21 Dewitt street, at 2 o'clock and at 2:30 in the First Reformed church, the Rev. Dr. Joshua R. Kyle officiating, assisted by the
Rev. W. Edgar Pierce, pastor of St. Luke's English Lutheran church. The interment will be in Green Hill. The G. A. R. funeral services will be conducted by members of Post Young

  James Henry Deal, 77, retired employe of the General Electric Company, died April 20th at the home of his grandson, John Magee, 8 Gifford Rd., Schenectady, after a short illness. A native of Central Bridge, Mr. Deal was widely known in Capital District Masonic circles. He was a 32nd degree Mason. His only immediate survivor is a daughter, Mrs. Edgar Magee of Campbell Ave., Schenectady. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Griswold Funeral Home, Schenectady, with the Rev. W. J. Whitney, pastor of the Methodist church at Central Bridge of which Mr. deal was a member, officiating. Masonic services were held Sunday evening. Interment was made in the Park cemetery, Scotia.

  Mrs. Mina Benson Deal, 75, died Friday at her home in Schenectady after a brief illness. She was born at Howes Cave, the daughter of the late Abram and Mary Jane Boice. With her husband, James H. Deal, she had lived in Schenectady for the past two years. Formerly of Central Bridge, she was a member of the Central Bridge Methodist church. Mrs. Deal was a member of the George Hope chapter, OES; Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem; both organizations conducting services, Sunday evening; St. George's court, Order of the Amaranth; Cyrene temple, Daughters of the Nile, and the Past Matrons' association. Besides her husband, Mrs. Deal is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Edgar R. Magee; one half-sister, Mrs. Dennis Mulhall of Scotia; two brothers, Charles Benson, Sr. and John Benson of Central Bridge; one grandson, John H. Magee; four great grandchildren, Ardeth Ruth, Dorrene Anne, Merle Alene and Gail Evelyn Magee, all of Schenectady, and several nieces and nephews ... Interment will be made in the family plot at Park cemetery, Scotia.

 - Funeral (Amsterdam Evening Recorder, NY, Monday, April 18, 1910)
  The funeral of Jay Lingenfelter took place Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at his home at Akin, the Rev. A. J. Hutchinson of Grace M. E. church of that village officiating. Interment was in Pine Grove cemetery, Tribes Hill, to which place the body was conveyed in a private car. Mr. Lingenfelter, who was 64 years old, has been in failing health for several years, developing locomotor ataxia, and has been confined to the house for the past seven weeks. The many people who attended the obsequies attested the high regard in which he was held as a result of his sterling qualities of manhood and true Christian character. The bearers were
Nicholas Belgian, John Osterhout, William Marshall, James E. Marshall, of Akin, George Moshler, of Amsterdam. The floral tributes were beautiful, Including a massive "Gates ajar," of roses, bearing a white dove, from his wife, with the inscription "Husband": a large standing wreath of magnolia leaves and cluster of roses, from the son bearing the inscription "Father"; a mounted wreath of American bounty roses, from George Moshier; large casket piece of roses, from Mrs, Joannette Cramer and Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Strait; roses and carnations, from Mr. and Mrs. Bloomingdale, of Gloversvllle: roses and carnations from Mr. and Mrs. Edward Johnson: carnations, from Mr. and Mrs. Rector: hydrangeas, Mr. and Mrs.

 - Obituary (The Morning Herald, Gloversville and Johnstown, NY, Monday, May 23, 1932)
  Aaron Phillips, retired farmer passed away at the home of his son, William Phillips, in the Town of Johnstown, last evening at 6:30. Mr. Phillips was 88 years of age. He suffered a stroke about three years ago which greatly impared his health and last Wednesday had a
second stroke from which he failed to rally.
   He was born at Scotch Bush, April 12, 1844, a son of Peter and Amy Cromer Phillips, and followed the occupation of farming up to several years ago when he retired to private life. He was a member of the Scotch Bush Methodist church.
   The surviving relatives are three sons, William of the Town of Johnstown; Frank of Gloversville and Oliver of St. Johnsville; four daughters, Mrs. Mary Cromer, St. Johnsville; Mrs. Lottie Edick, Tribes Hill; Mrs. Dolly Strobeck and Mrs. Hattie Wagner of this city; one sister, Mrs. Ella DeNur of this city and several nieces and nephews.
   The remains were removed to the George A. Dorn funeral parlor, to be prepared for interment. Announcement of the funeral will be made later.

   Lasselsville - Sunday afternoon at the M. E. Church the funeral of the infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Phillips was held. The child was about two years old. It was burned quite severly some time ago and had been subject to fits since that time. Interment was made in the Fical Cemetery.

  ST. JOHNSVILLE, Nov. 26— Mrs. Etta DeNure, 79, of 40 North Division Street, this village, died at her home Tuesday night.
  Mrs. DeNure, the former Etta Phillips, was born in the Town of Ephratah. Following her marriage to William DeNure they resided on a farm In Scotch Bush and came to thla village 20 years ago. Mr. DeNure died on October 9. 1940.
  Surviving are one son, Frank, and one granddaughter, Mrs. Elsie DeNure Quackenbush, both of this
village.
  The funeral services were held this afternoon, the Rev. C. Frederick Miller of the local Methodist
Church, officiating, and burial was in Lassellsville.

  St. Johnsville - A heart attack proved fatal Oct. 9, 1940, to William DeNure, 75, N. Divisoion St.
  He was born in Scotch Bush, Town of Ephratah, a son of John and Ann Drake DeNure, and spent a large part of his life in Scotch Bush. He attended the Free Methodist Church In that community.
  The family moved here 17 years ago. On Feb. 2, 1940. Mr. and Mrs. DeNure observed their golden wedding anniversary.
  He leaves his wife, the former Miss Etta Phillips; one son, Frank DeNure,  and one grandaughter Elsie DeNure. all of this village.
  The funeral will be held from the home at 2 p. m. Saturday. Burial will be in the Fical Cemetery in Scotch Bush.

  He was born Mar,  27, 1847, at Ephrata. and bad lived in Utica 21 years. He formerly was employed in the Municipal Department of Parks until he retired 12 years ago. Mr. Cromer attended Christ Reformed Church.
  Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Cook Cromer; three sons, John of Utica. Charles of Canajoharie, and Daniel Cromer, Mohawk; three daughters, Mrs. John Fisher. Mrs. Fred Knapp and Mrs. Nettle Decker, all of Utica; several grandchildren and great-grandchilren.

  Edward Cromer, 52, died Monday in the Amsterdam City hospital of diabetes. He had been an inmate of the Montgomery county home for the past few years, formerly making his home in this village. Mr. Cromer was bom in Ephratah on March 1, 1883, son of the late James Cromer and Laphrone Webster Cromer. He spent his entire life in this section where he was employed on various farms. He never married. Surviving are two brothers, Charles of Johnstown and Daniel. The funeral was conducted this afternoon at 2 o’clock from the C. C. Lull funeral home on Bridge street, the Rev. Royal B. Fishbeck, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church officiating. Interment will be made in the cemetery at the Montgomery county farm.

  She was born Feb. 12, 1879, in St. Johnsville, daughter of Alonzo and Josephine Nellis Cook. She attended local schools there, and St. John's Reformed Church of St. Johnsville.
  She married James Cromer May 2, 1898. Mr. Cromer died in 1938.
  The Cromers moved to Utica in 1917, and attended the Christ Reformed Church here.
  She leaves three daughters, Mrs. Ada Knapp and Mrs. Josephine Fisher, both of Utica, Mrs. Nettie Fusco of Niles, Ohio; a son, John of Utica; a sister Mrs. Nellie Crouse of Fort Plain; 17 grandchildren; several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
  The funeral will be at 9 Saturday from the John S. Friedel Funeral Home, Court at York, with the Rev. Henry A. Smith, pastor of Bethany Presbyterian Church, conducting the prayer service, and at 10 from St. John's Church, St. Johnsville. Burial will be in St. Johnsville Cemetery.

  LOCAL POLICE FIND STRANGER'S HOME
  The stranger held at the police station for identification for a day or two was returned to his home, the County Farm, yesterday afternoon  by the police, where he was recognized as Charles Miles, an inmate there for several years.
  Miles was taken in custody Tuesday night by Officer William Laird in North Perry street, when the man was found sitting on the curb apparently in an exhausted condition. Later at the station house it was discovered that Miles was a paralytic, his right side being affected and that he either refused or was unable to talk and write.
  Yesterday afternoon it was decided to send the stranger to the almshouse and an order was made to this effect by Dr. G. V. Wilson, City Commissioner of Public Health and Welfare. Arriving at the county institution, the fellow was identified as one of the inmates.

  Alex Cromer, 86, who resided on the Peters Road, in the Town of Johnstown, was found dead in bed this morning at 5 having passed away in his sleep.
  Mr. Cromer was born in the Town of Ephratah, the son of John and Mary (Youker) Cromer. He was a lumberjack by trade and was well known in the section in which he lived having resided there for thirty years. His wife. Elizabeth (Clark) Cromer passed away thirty-six years ago.
  The survivors are one son, Frank, residing at home; two step-daughters, Mrs. Kate Frye of Red Bunch
and Mrs Susan Wells of Riceville, and two step-sons, Robert Gardner of Scotch Bush and George Gardner, whose address is unknown.
  The funeral will be held Sundaty afternoon at 2 at the A. G. Cole funeral home. Rev. George Lamb of the Pilgrim Holiness Church in Rockwood will officiate. The body will be placed in the receiving vault of teh Johnstown cemetery and in the Spring will be buried in Fical Cemetery near Ephratah.

She leaves her husband and several children.

  JOHNSTOWN - Elizabeth Y. (Libby) Cromer, 103, died at 5 p.m. yesterday at the Van Lone Rest Home. 300 W. Main St., where she resided the last three years.
  Mrs. Cromer was born March 29, 1867, in the Town of Ephratah and had been a lifelong resident of the area. She was a retired glove worker and was last employed by the Henry J. Lesser Glove Co.
  Mrs. Cromer was a member of the Lassellsville Methodist Church.
  She was the widow of Levi Cromer. Survivors are five sons, Clarence, Raymond and Ira Cromer, all of Johnstown, Neil Cromer of Gloversville and Lester Cromer of RD Johnstown; 18 grandchildren, several greatgrandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
  Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Barter Funeral Home by the Rev. Joel Shippey of the First United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 tomorrow. Burial will be in the Fical Cemetery, Scotch Bush.

  Born Dec. 16,1898, in the Town of Ephratah, he was the son of Levi and Elizabeth Youker Cromer and had lived in the Johnstown area all his life.
  He was last employed as a machine operator at the M. Denkert Company, retiring six years ago. His wife, the former Miss Margaret Harkness, died April 4, 1959.

  She was a member of the Johnstown Company of Jehovah's Witnesses.
  She was married to Mr. Cromer in February, 1946.
  The survivors, besides her husband, are two sisters, Mrs. Emma J. Hallock of Eastport and Mrs. Eleanor L. White of East Homer; one brother, Thomas R. Harkness of Orlando, Fla., aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

  Lyman Cromer of 23 South Melcher street, passed away at 8:30 yesterday morning at the Nathan Littauer hospital, Gloversville, where be had been a patient for five days. Death was due to pneumonia.
  He was 67 years of age, having been born in the Town of Ephratah August 6, 1865, a son of Peter and Martha Ann Smith Cromer. Most of his life was spent in the locality where he was born, but for the past two years had resided in Johnstown.
  Mr. Cromer was a member of the Free Methodist church of Scotch Bush.
  The survivors are his widow, Mrs. Lula Cromer; two sons, Arthur Cromer, Scotch Bush, and Mahlon Cromer, St. Johnsville; two brothers, Stephen and Wesley Cromer of Scotch Bush; also several nieces and nephews.
  The funeral will be held from the late home Sunday afternoon at 1 and from the Free Methodist church of Scotch Bush at 2. The Rev. Hasen Peters, pastor, will officiate, interment will be made in the Scotch Bush cemetery.

  Arthur Cromer, 81, St. Johnsville, RD 1 (Lassellsville) died Monday at 6 a.m. at the home of his nephew, Kenneth Smith, Lassellsville, following a long illness. Born Jan. 16, 1897 in Scotch Bush, Town of Ephratah, he was the son of Lyman and Lula Miles Cromer. He was married on Feb. 16, 1921 to Miss Ruth Cretser in the Scotch Bush Free Methodist Parsonage. For many years, he was a self-employed farner, retiring in 1953. He was a member of the Scotch Bush Free Methodist Church and served as trustee and treasurer for several years. Survivors in addition to his widow are several cousins. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Scotch Bush Free Methodist Church with the Rev Harold Schwab, pastor of Gary Holmes Free Methodist Church, Gerry, N.Y., assisted by the Rev. Frances Hopfer, pastor of the Scotch Bush Free Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be made in the Fical Cemetery, Town of Ephratah.

  Mrs. Ruth Cromer, 81, of RD 1, St. Johnsville, died Saturday at Little Falls Hospital where she had been a patient since Oct. 10.
  Born Jan. 31, 1903, in Scotch Bush, the daughter of Chauncey and Anna Weaver Cretser, she assisted in the operation of the family dairy farm, in her early years.
  She was also employed as a home glove worker for various glove manufacturers until retiring in 1962.
  She was a life member of the Scotch Bush Free Methodist Church, past president of its Women’s Missionary Society, assistant superintendent of the Sunday school and was active in the church’s summer conference in Saratoga.
  She was also a member of the Lassellsville Western Fulton County Senior Citizens and was the historian for the Town of Ephratah from early 1960 until she became ill in 1981.
  Her husband, Arthur Cromer, died in 1981.
  Mrs. Cromer is survived by a sister, Mrs. Mary Ferguson of Wells House, Johnstown.
  Services were held Monday and the burial took place in Fical Cemetery, Lassellsville.
  Arrangements were by the Gray Funeral Home, Fort Plain.

  Born in the Town of Ephratah on June 5,1899, he was the son of Lyman and Lula Miles Cromer. On March 29, 1922, he was married to Ruth Monk, who survives.
  Prior to retirement in 1957, he was employed as a maintenance foreman for the former New York Central Railroad. He was a member of the St. Johnsville United Methodist Church, and for several years served as a trustee and a member of the church choir. He also had served as secretary and treasurer of the Men's Club of the church.
  Survivors in addition to his widow, are a brother, Arthur Cromer, St. Johnsville RD 1, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services were held Thursday at 2 p.m. from the C. Curtis Lull Funeral Home, St. Johnsville, with the Rev. S. Bowen Hawkins, pastor of the St. Johnsville United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment was made in the St. Johnsville Cemetery.

  Mrs. Ruth Cromer, 81, a resident of Mid-Town Estates, St. Johnsville, died Wednesday in Little Falls Hospital following a long illness.
  Born in the Town of Ephratah Oct. 3, 1901, she was the daughter of Wilbur and Sarah Ropeter Monk She was married to Mahlon Cromer, March 29. 1922. He died April 11, 1978.
  Prior to her retirement several years ago, she was employed by the Little Falls Felt Shoe Company in its St. Johnsville plant. She was a member of the St Johnsville United Methodist Church, its UMW Society, the Kings Daughters Society and Montgomery Rebekah Lodge No. 118.
  Survivors include two brothers, Emerson Monk and Milburn Monk, both of St. Johnsville RD 1, several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Saturday at 11 a.m., from the C. Curtis Lull Funeral Home, with the Rev. Douglas Cowburn, pastor of the United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment, was made in St. Johnsville Cemetery.
