  W. R. Bathrick , Oldest Resident, Taken by Death
" Death came on Wednesday afternoon May 4 to William R. Bathrick at his home at 44 South Center Street where he had lived for the past month under the care of his daughter Mrs. Merrill Slocum. Prior to that time they had lived for 3 1/2 years at the home of another daughter, Mrs. Bertha Smith.
Mr. Bathrick, Perry's oldest resident, was in his 96th year. Until comparatively recent times he had enjoyed exceptional health and activity, but fell about a year ago and had suffered failing health since that time. Since Christmas he had been unable to walk, but he retained a keen and alert mind right up to the moment of his death. On Monday of last week he wrote a number of facts about his life intended for use in his obituary.
William Ralph Bathrick was born in the town of Perry on June 9, 1842, on the farm at Sucker Brook know occupied by John Smith. He was the son of Elias and Clarissa Ward Bathrick. one of a family of six children. With the exception of two years in Warsaw an one year in Wyoming, his entire life had been spent in Perry, where he followed the occupation of farming and carpenter work.
In November, 1862, he was united in marriage to Miss Mancie Bratt of Perry. His marriage occurring before he age of 21, he was obliged to pay his father for the six months of time intervening, according to custom at that time which decreed that a father was entitled to his son's services until he became of age.
In 1919 he retried from farming and moved to Perry. Mrs. Bathrick's death occurred in 1926. Ten children were born to them; one died at the age of 4, the others attained maturity and married.
Mr. Bathrick was a man of Christian principles,a kind father, good neighbor and friend. He joined the Congregational Church while in Warsaw, but attended the Methodist Church in Perry.
Surviving are four sons and three daughters: Fred of Perry, Charles of Orangeville, Andrew of Rochester and Ward of Winter Haven Fla,; Mrs. Bertha Smith, Mrs. Charles Sayre and Mrs. Merrill Slocum, of Perry.
Funeral services will be held from Eaton's Funeral Home on Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock, with interment in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Perry Center. "
