  Delmar J. DeWandelaer, 81, died at the home of his sister-in-law, Mrs.
Blankney Nyack, Wednesday, January 4. Mr. DeWandelaer was born in the Town of Palatine, June 21, 1857, son of John Adams DeWandelaer and
Nancy Catherine Coppernoll.
  Mr. DeWandelaer was one of the oldest business men in Fort Plain, having been engaged in the furniture and undertaking business for many years. He was associated with the late Byron Gray in this business until 1913 when he retired.
  He is survived by one son, E. P. DeWandelaer, Phoenix, Arizona; one sister, Mrs. Florence Weller, Fort Plain; two granddaughters, Mrs. Nictolas Greene and Mrs. Richard Walker, Philadelphia, Pa., and three greatgrandchildren.
  The funeral was held Saturday at 2 p. m. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Gray, Lydius street, Fort Plain. Interment was made in Fort Plain Cemetery.


Emma Louisa Truax

  Emma Louisa Truex, aged 82 years, died at her home on Webster street.  Fort Plain, early Friday morning, November 15. Mrs. DeWandelaer suffered a stroke about three years and had been ill since that time. She was born
in Matteawan. New Jersey, on January 31, 1857. She moved to Fort Plain
in 1874, and married Delmar J. DeWandelaer, who became a member of the firm of DeWandelaer & Gray, undertaking and furniture store. Mrs. DeWandelaer was a member of the Methodist church. She was a woman of fine character and a home-loving person and she was deeply loved by a circle of neighbors and friends. Her loss is deeply mourned by those who knew her.
  Mrs. DeWandelaer is survived by her husband; one son, E. Percy DeWandelaer of Phoenix, Arizona; one sister, Mrs. Minnie Blakeney of Nyack; two granddaughters. Mrs. Richard J. Walker and Mrs Nicholas Herkimer Greene of Germantown. Pennsylvania; three great grandchildren. Richard Walker Jr.. Nicholas Herkimer Greene Jr. and Ann DeWandelaer Greene.
  A private funeral was held on Sunday at 2 p. m. Rev. William H. Hammersley of the Methodist church officiated. Interment was made in the
family lot in the Fort Plain cemetery.

  Mrs. Florence A. Weller, 92, died at a nursing home in Philadelphia on Wednesday, May 28. She was born July 5, 1859, the daughter of Adam DeWandelaer and Nancy Coppernoll. The greater part of her life was spent in Fort Plain, where she was a member of the Universalist Church of the Messiah. Mrs. Weller leaves two daughters, Mrs. W. H. Blue, East Orange, N. J., and Mrs. Caroline McCormick, Ventnor, N. J.; three grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren. A daughter, Florence Weller Pitcher, wife of the late Dr. E. L. Pitcher, Cooperstown, died many years ago. A picture of Mrs. Weller, including five generations of her family, was taken at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Nicholas Herkimer Greene, in Philadelphia, Pa., in February. The remains were cremated at a Philadelphia crematory and will be later interred in the family plot in the Fort Plain cemetery with committal services."   Fort Plain, Aug. 16.—The passing away of Marvin F. Weller took place in the Little Falls City hospital at about midnight Monday night. He was
taken to the hospital for an operation for appendicitis Monday morning. His system, however, was not equal to the operation and the patient gradually grew weaker until the end. From boyhood he had been a resident of Fort Plain until some ten years ago, when he went to Little Falls and was occupied in the D. H. Burrell & Co. dairy furning factory as a pattern maker, in which business he was a finished mechanic. He was a member of Fort Plain lodge, No. 433, F. & A. M. Besides his widow he is survived by
three daughters. Mrs. C. L Pitcher of Cooperstown, the Misss Carrie and LuluWeller, four brothers and one sister, also survive. Edwin of Salt Springville, Willard of East Springfield, Charles E. and Leslie M. of Fort Plain, and Mrs. A. A. Miller of Fort Plain. The remains will be brought to Fort Plain and the funeral will be held at the Catharine Memorial chapel, Thursday afternoon.

  Funeral services for Mrs. Loretta Wock, who died Friday in St. Johnsville, will be held Monday at 2:30 P. M. at the Catherine Nellis Memorial Chapel in. this village, the Rev. William H. Harcmersley, pastor of the Fort Plain Methodist church, of which Mrs. Wock was a member, officiating. Interment will be made in the Fort Plain cemetery.

  Mrs Loretta E. Wock. 72. wife of William C Wock, passed to her eternal rest at about 11:30 Friday morning at her home on South Division street,
St. Johnsville, after an illness of four weeks from complications.
  Mrs. Wock was born in Mattewan, N. J., on November 2. 1862. daughter of the late Captain John and Nancy DeWandelaer Her parents came to the Mohawk valley while she was a young girl, and she spent most of her life in Fort Plain going to St Johnsville to live about 18 years ago. She was a member of the Methodist church, Fort Plain.
  Last March 22 Mr. and Mrs. Wock celebrated the 54th anniversary of their marriage.
  A quiet lady, Mrs. Wock was a kindly neighbor and a woman who will be
missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband: one son. Dr
A. Brownell Wock, Johnstown: one brother, Delmar J. DeWandelaer, Fort Plain; one sister. Mrs. Florence Weller, Fort Plain; two grandsons, William
and Delmar Wock, Johnstown.
  The funeral was held Monday at 2:30 from the Catharine Nellis Memorial chapel in Fort Plain, preceded by a prayer from the house in St Johnsville, at 2 o'clock. The Rev. William H. Hammersley, pastor of the Methodist church of Fort Plain, officiated. Interment was made in the Fort Plain cemetery.

 - Obituary (The Leader Republican, Gloversville and Johnstown, N.Y., Tuesday, November 13, 1945)
  After being ill for about two years, William C. Wock aged 86 years, father of Dr. A. Brownell Wock, 104 Fraser avenue, died yesterday afternoon in a Utica hospital.
  He was born January ?, 1859, in Fort Plain, the son of Joseph C. and Catherine Chedic Wock. Mr. Wock resided in Fort Plain for __? years and also spent __?years of life in St. Johnsville. He was a retired plumber and tinsmith.
  He came to Johnstown after the death of his wife, Lorretta E. De Wandelear Wock, about 11 years ago to reside with his son, a local dentist.
  The survivors, besides his son, are two grandsons, Delmar Wock, U.S. Army, who is stationed at Indiantown Gap, Tenn, and William C. Wock, a member of the 7th Special Service Command at the U. S. Army, who is returning to the states again from Iran; a granddaughter, Helen Elizabeth Wock, and a great grandson.
  Mr. Wock could recall being taken, at the age of six, by his father to see Lincolns funeral train as it passed through the Mohawk Valley.
  The body was removed to the Buchanan funeral home, where a prayer service will be held Thursday afternoon at 2. The Rev. Frank Jay Reid of the Methodist church will officiate. Burial will be in the Fort Plain cemetery.

  Lovina Getman Cook - Daughter of Nathan Getman and Nancy Claus, was born on 19 Aug 1851 in Ephratah, Fulton, New York. She died on 17 Jun 1917. Lovina married George Cook, son of Jacob J. Cook and Mary Barker, on 11 Oct 1871 in St. Johnsville, Montgomery, N.Y. George was born on 28 Jul 1846 in Oppenheim, Fulton, N.Y. He died on 9 Mar 1929.

 - Newspaper Article / Obituary (Fort Plain Standard, NY, Thursday, January 11, 1923)
 Nathan Cook of St. Johnsville, aged about 50 years, was found dead Saturday morning, recling in the back seat ov his Ford car in the garage at the home of H. J. Roberts, where he boarded. Mr. Cook left the house after supper Friday night and went to the dentistry office of Dr. C. A. Leek, where he had made and appointment for 8.45 o'clock. He was accompanied by Leon Dawson duirng the evening and left him, apparently to go home, about 9 o'clock. The coroner, Dr. C. P. Wagner, viewed the body, but is not prepared to make a statement. The remains were taken to the undertakig rooms of H. S. Van Antwerp and later to the home of his father, George Cook. Mr. Cook leaves a wife; his father George Cook of Palatine Church; one sister, Mrs. Sidney Palmatier of Palatine Church, and one brother, Chauncey Cook of Flat Creek.
  The funeral was held from his father's home Monday afternoon, Rev. H. W. McCrone officiating, and burial made in Fort Plain Cemetery.

She was born in Ephratah, November 12, 1856, the daughter of Nathan Getman and Nancy Clause Getman. She was a well beloved woman, and highly respected by all who knew her. There survive 10 children as follows: Mrs. Benjamin (Elsie) Doxstader, Mohawk; A. N. (Ai Norman) Failing, Schenectady; Elmer Failing, Herkimer; Mrs. Chester A.    Norman Failing, 63 years old, a well known farmer living in the west neighborhood near Kast Bridge, four miles north of this village, was instantly killed this morning when a tree he was helping to cut down fell suddenly fell down and crushed him. Coroner R. P. Huyck, rendered a verdict of accidental death. Mr. Failing was assisting his son, Elmer Failing, to fell a big tree, which was to be cut up for firewood. The tree had been sawed through and Mr. Failing was driving a wedge into the crevice when the tree suddenly toppled in the other direction. Mr. Failing did not have time to escape. The tree fell across his chest, crushing him and causing instant death. Dr. James W. Graves was called. Mr. Failing was an old resident of the west neighborhood. He went to that section from near Fort Plain when he was a young man. Besides his wife, the former Anna Getman, there are 10 children surviving: A. N, Elmer, Glen, Byron and Daniel Failing, Mrs. Elsie Doxstader, Mrs. Elizabeth Rasbach, Mrs. Matilda Wolghmuth, Mrs. Ether Roof and Miss Marion Failing. There are also surviving a brother and sister. The funeral arrangements are not made.
   
   Utica Daily Press, Thursday Morning, November 30, 1916 - The funeral of Norman Failing of Kast Bridge, who was killed Monday by a falling tree, will be held Friday from the late home. Rev. Byron Fake of Fort Plan, will officiate. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery.

At the age of 10, he moved with his parents to the Failing homestead at Kast Bridge, where he spent most of his life. He was a member of the Herkimer Reformed Church and of the Men's League.   She leaves three brothers, Daniel K. Failing, Herkimer, and Ai and Myron Failing, both of Schenectady, and a sister, Mrs. Chester (Matilda) Woglemuth, Nelliston.

  Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Seward Smith. West St. Johnsville; grandson, John Christman, this village, and several nieces and nephews.

  John Failing, 92, St. Johnsville died Wednesday afternoon in Little Falls Hospital. He had been a patient in the hospital for six weeks and had been in poor health for years.
  Surviving are his wife, Ellen to whom Mr. Failing was married on July 4, 1879, this year having been their 70th anniversary. Surviving in addition to Mrs. Failing are one daughter, Mrs. Seward Smith St. Johnsville with whom Mr. Failing had been living prior to his last illness, and one grandson, John Christman, St. Johnsville.
  Rev. Andrew McAllister, pastor of Grace Church will conduct the funeral services in the Lull Funeral home on Saturday afternoon at 1 p. m. Burial will be made in West St. Johnsville.

  St. Johnsville - Mr. and Mrs. John A. Failing, Averill St., were married 64 years ago July 4.
  John A. Failing, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ovediah Failing and Ellen Getman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Getman, were married on July 4, 1876, in this village, by the local Lutheran clergyman. At the time they were both residents of Frey's Bush, Town of Minden.
  For most of their lives Mr. and Mrs. Failing have lived on farms in this section, in the Towns of Minden and St. Johnsville, and in Ephratah. In 1901 they moved to their present home.
  For a time r. Failing worked in the former Engelhardt Piano Action Factory, and also in the maintenande of way department of the New York Central Railroad.
  Although he is now i3, Mr. Failing still is active, and is a visitor to the busines section of the village almost every day. Mrs. Failing, 81 is in poor health.
  They have one daughter, Mrs. Nancy Christman, who lives with them, and one grndson, John Christman. A son Irving Failing died about three years ago.

  FORT PLAIN MAN FROZEN TO DEATH - Edward J. Getman, 61, Found Dead on the Dygert Farm.
   FORT PLAIN, Feb. . Edward J. Getman, aged 61 years, who worked the farm of the late Emory Walrath in the Freys Bush section of this town was found late Wednesday afternoon, by his son-in-law, Homer Nestle and William Scott, frozen to death in a field on the Dygert farm, with, a gun resting across him. Mr. Getman start out Wednesday morning fox hunting and he was last seen alive shortly after noon by Arthur Dygert, who supposed that Mr. Getman was on his way home. Mr. Nestle becoming alarmed at the non-appearance of his father-in-law started out to look for him with the result above stated. Dr. E. Slater of this village was notified and upon examination of the body he stated that death was probably caused by heart failure induced by exhaustion, it being known that Mr. Getman was subject to those attacks. The deceased was born in the town of Ephratah and was a son of Nathan Getman and Nancy Claus Getman and lived there until 19 years ago when ho moved to this town, where he was well known. He is survived by his wife, three daughters, Mrs. Reuben Dunckel, Mrs. Homer Nestle and Mrs. Arthur E. Whyland and three grandchildren. A prayer will be offered at the house Saturday at 12 o'clock and the funeral held from the Catherine Nellis Memorial Chapel in this village at 1 o'clock. The Rev. Dr. B. B. Fake officiating. The body will be placed in the chapel vault until spring.

   Born March 6, 1892, in the Town of Palatine, she was the daughter of Edward and Hattie Pealer Getman.
   Mrs. Martini was a direct descendant of Frederick Getman, one of the early Palatine settlers of the Mohawk Valley.
   She was a former employe of both Arkell and Smiths and Beech-Nut Packing Co. in Canajoharie, where she had resided the past 30 years.
   She was married to Mr. Martini on April 17, 1935.
   Survivors include her husband; one sister. Mrs. Nestle, and a step-daughter. Mrs. Karl Dopp, Palatine Bridge, also several nieces and nephews.
   Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Swartz funeral home. Fort Plain, with the Rev. F. W. Engle, pastor of Fort Plain Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Fort Plain Cemetery.

  St. Johnsville, Jan. 12, - Lewis Getman, 80, died Thursday at his home after being in failing health for some time. Mr. Getman was born in the Town of Ephratah on September 2, 1865, the son of Nathaniel and Nancy Claus Getman. He resided in Ephratah for many years, coming to St. Johnsville about 40 years ago. For some time he was employed as a section worker on the New York Central Railroad, and later was employed by the New York State Highway Department. He was married on February 2, 1890, to Louise Waite, at her home in Ephratah, and they would have observed the 46th anniversary of their marriage next month. Surviving, besides the wife, are two daughters, Mrs. Maude Linter, this village, and Mrs. Mae Oeser, Fort Plain, two sons, Lewis Getman, Utica, and Chester Getman, this village; also eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. John Failing, this village. The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 at the home. The Rev. Alden Smith of the Methodist Church will officiate. The body will be placed in the vault in Prospect View Cemetery for burial in the spring.

who was Miss Louise Waite, daughter of Mr. and Mrs, Daniel Waite, was born May 19, 1868.
   The couple was married Feb. 3, 1890. They have five children, Mrs. Charles Linter, wife of the Town of St Johnsville supervisor; Mrs. May Oser, Fort Plain; Lewis Getman Jr., Utica, and Chester Getman, this village, also nine grandchildren.

  Amsterdam Evening Recorder, Tuesday, December 9, 1958 ~ Maud Linter Expires at 75 ~ St. Johnsville, Mrs. Maud Linter, 75, widow of Charles H. Linter, former supervisor of the Town of St. Johnsville, died yesterday afternoon in Amsterdam City Hospital where she had been a patient only a few hours. She lived at 8 Averill St., St. Johnsville. Born Jan. 30, 1883 in the Town of Ephratah, she was the daughter of Louis and Louise Waite Getman. Survivors include one brother, Chester Getman, St. Johnsville, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, at the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Bertram A. Walton, pastor of Grace Congregational Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be in St. Johnsville Cemetery.

  Charles Linter, supervisor of the Town of St. Johnsville and for many years one of the most active political figures in Montgomery County, died at 4:15 A. M. today in St. Mary's Hospital, where he had been in a critical condition since suffering a heart attack Saturday.
   A native of Mindenville, he was born November 19, 1888, a son of William and Alice Carter Linter. For more than twenty years he had operated a confectionery store in St. Johnsville and in this business established a wide acquaintance of residents in the community.
   Showing considerable aptitude for politics, Mr. Linter, a Republican, served as town clerk for six years and was town committeeman for several years. After serving three two-year terms as supervisor of the Town of St. Johnsville, he was re-elected last Fall and at the time of his death had completed four months of his fourth term. He had served as chairman of the board.
   Besides his wife, the former Maude Getman, he is survived, by a brother, William Linter, Whitesboro; two sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Brown and Mrs. Emma Crangle, both of St. Johnsville, and three nephews.
   A brother, James E. Linter, died on April 5 last.

   Private Harry Getman, aged about 20 years, died Monday, of pneumonia, following an attack of Spanish Influenza, at Camp Zachary Taylor, Louisville, Ky. He enlisted several months ago at Utica in the regular army and was sent to Camp Taylor. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Getman, two brothers, Louis, Jr., who is in service in France, and Chester, of this village, and also two sisters, Mrs. Charles Lintner and Mrs. Solomon Oser, both of this place. The body is expected to arrive in St Johnsville tonight.

  —The members of the family of Peter Comrie, a brother of Mrs. Albert Lemon, who resides about three and a half miles from here in the town of Alexander, are greatly afflicted. Mrs. Comrie is very dangerously ill with pneumonia, and not expected to recover. One child is also very sick, and the hired man in a serious condition with the same disease. Mrs. Pierce, mother of Mrs. Comrie died last week of the same malady.
