Albert N. Getman, well known farmer, residing in the Town of [Ephratah, was found dead in a barn on his farm, yesterday morning about 11. Death was due to valvular heart disease according to Coroner J. W. Joslin, Sr., of this city who was called in the case.
Mr. Getman was 59 years of age.  He was born in the town and had always resided there, making his home on a farm, located about two miles east of Ephratah for many years. He was well known in the Glove Cities, where he delivered farm produce to customers. He was a member of the Ephratah Methodist church.
Mr. Getman had been in falling health for the past two years and had been treated by a physician for heart trouble. Yesterday morning he left the house to go to the barn to do some work. A short time later Mrs. Snell, his house keeper, went to the barn and found him lying face downward on the floor dead. The end apparently came about 10:30, without warning.
Coroner Joslin of this city was summoned and after an investigation gave his opinion as death due to natural causes resulting from a heart attack.
The remains were removed to the undertaking parlors of A. G. Swartz & Son, Fort Plain, to be prepared for burial and from where the funeral will be held Saturday afternoon ar 2. The body will be places in the receiving vault of the Fort Plain cemetery until Spring, when Interment will be made in the Ephratah cemetery. Rev. Peter Heller, of Canajoharle will officiate.

EPHRATAH WOMAN TAKES HER LIFE WITH BUTCHER KNIFE
Fort Plain. Dec, 31. - Mrs. Albert N. Getman, aged 45 years, committed suicide at her home near Ephratah. Just north of this village, yesterday morning.
It cannot be learned that any family trouble was responsible for the deed. Mrs. Getman had not been in the best of health for a long time, and during the past week she had exhibited signs of mental disorders and is said to have threatened to take her life
In the later hours of Monday night, after the family had retired. Mr. Getman awakened to find his wife leaning over him with a razor in her hand. She made an attempt to cut him with the weapon, but he grabbed her and took it from her.
Yesterday morning he went to a neighbor's home to call Dr. G. L. Meyer, leaving his wife, her mother and his son at home. This was.at about 8:30 o'clock. A short time after he had left Mrs. Getman left the house for the purpose, she stated, of going to a small outbuilding. When she did not return in a reasonable length of time her mother went in search of her and found her lying in a pool of blood in the outbuilding in a lifeless condition.
The mother at-once called for help, and it was found upon examination that Mrs. Getman had
Used a butcher knife to commit the rash act and had cut her throat, severing the left carotid and trachea. Life was extinct when she was found.
Coroner Joslin of Johnstown was notified and he turned the case over to Dr. G. L. Meyer.
Mrs. Getman was held in high esteem by a large circle of friends, and all deeply regret her death. She was born in the town of Palatine and always lived in that section.
Besides her husband she is survived by her mother, Mrs. Adam Glennar, and one son, Carl Getman, all of Ephratah. The funeral will be held at the home Friday afternoon at 1 o'clock and at the Ephratah Methodist church at 2 o'clock, the Rev. Mr. Sumner officiating. The interment will be in the Ephratah cemetery.

Mary C Dodds

 - 100 Years Old (The Leader-Herald, Gloversville-Johnstown, NY, Friday, June 21, 1974)
Mrs. Mary Coolman, a patient in the Turpin's Nursing Home, Gloversville, tomorrow will observe her 100th brithday anniversary.
Mrs. Coolman had resided on a farm on Route 67, Amsterdam RD 5, from the time of her marriage Dec. 8, 1897, until entering the nursing home Jan. 20. Her husband, Levi Coolman, died June 20, 1957.
Yesterday, she recalled "raking hay all day long for my husband." Asked how else she had occupied herself in her younger days, she said," I sat down and took it easy. When I had time I sewed." Mrs. Coolman then described how she made all her own clothing when she was younger.
Mrs. Coolman's husband lived to be 89 years old and when asked if her parents lived to be very old she recalled that her father, Carnelius Dodds, was about 70 when he died and her mother, Harriet Thayer Dodds, lived to be about 60 years old.
Asked why she believes that she has lived to be 100, Mrs. Coolman said, "God's will be done on earth."
"Happiness is as happiness does," was Mrs. Coolman's comment concerning her opinion of today's faster pace of living and changes in behavior. Whatever they do, I believe it's all right. People should do what they want and get the most out of life."
Asked about drinking and smoking, Mrs. Coolman said, "I don't touch whiskey unless it is ordered by the doctor and I never smoked because I want to keep my tongue clean."
She added, "I don't object (to drinking and smoking) if people enjoy it. It is their business. They have to pay for it."
Mrs. Coolman was born June  22, 1874, at the Dodds homestead on the Cranes Hollow Road out of Cranesville, east of Amsterdam. While living on the farm on Route 67, she enjoyed horses because she said, "Horses can talk to you if anybody can." The family had several horses and also 10 cows.
Asked if she remembers any of the past Presidents, Mrs. Coolman said "Yes, I remember Grover Cleveland very well. He was a tall and clean-looking, a nice looking man."
Mrs. Coolman can name the presidents "right down the line," according to her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Walter Coolman of Amsterdam.
The brithday celebrant generally is in good health and has good eyesight and hearing. "I can only wink one eye. That's all that's necessary," she said.
Besides her son, Walter, of Amsterdam, Mrs. Coolman has a daughter, Mrs. Earl Stevens of Amsterdam RD 5. She has two grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
An open house reception will be held from 1:30 to 3:30 tomorrow afternoon at the nursing home for Mrs. Coolman. About 100 persons are expected to join in the celebration, including the other patients at the
nursing home.
