- Death Notice (The Gloversville Daily Leader, NY, Thursday, July 10, 1902)
The list of the victims of the Mountain Lake Railroad disaster now numbers fourteen, the last one being Edward Shull, who was employed in the establishment of the Grand Union Tea company of this city, and was the most terribly injured person in the wreck.
Shull's remarkable vitality held him up until this morning, when he commenced to fail and death occurred about half-past nine. On the night of the accidnet Shull was the mutilated worse than any of the other surviving victims of the accident, his abdomen being torn open and filled with splinters from broken board in the cars. He was sewed together and everything that medical science could do was provided for the unfortunate man, but he suffered greatly until death relieved him. Yesterday morning it was necessary to amputate his right leg and if he had lived he would have been in bad shape.
Edward E. Shull was born in Nelliston, N. Y., a son of the late Norman and Maria Shull, and was 39 years of age. He is survived by one son, F. Earl of this city, and a half brother, Nellsi Shull of Amsterdam. His fuyneral, date not announced, will be private to relatives, and interment will be made in Fort Plain.

- Newspaper Article (Sept 1918 Watertown Daily Times, NY)
Private Andrew Davis, son of Mr. and Mrs. H.P. Davis of 2(h) Park street is seriously ill with pneumonia at Camp Jackson, S.C. according to telegrams received today by his parents. Private Davis left this city about two weeks ago, being called in the selective draft. A telegram received Wednesday by his parents announced that he was seriously ill with pneumonia and another telegram received this noon notified them that his condition continued serious. His sister, Mrs. Florence Donaldson, left on the train this morning for Fort Jackson and will arrive there Friday- Obituary (Watertown Daily Times, NY, Saturday, September 28, 1918)
Private Andrew McKinley Davis, aged 22 years, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hiram P. Davis of 209 Park street, died at 12:46 this morning in the base hospital at Camp Jackson, near Columbia, S. C. following a brief illness of pneumonia. Private Davis who left Watertown,Monday, Sept. 2, for Camp Jackson in a contingent of 40, was taken ill last Sunday.
He had been innoculated and t is thought by relatives that this innoculation had something to do with his illness. He was carried from the drill ground to the hospital and his parents were notified Wednesday that he was critically ill with pneumonia. His sister, Mrs. Florence Donaldson arrived at Camp Jackson Friday noon. He died shortly after midnight Friday, the parents were informed Friday afternoon by a telegram that his conditions continued critical.
He was born Sept. 4, 1893, in Alexandria Bay, son of Hiram P. and Addie E. Baxter Davis and spent his early life ther. the fmaily moved to the city nine years ago and Mr. Davis for a number of years conducted a store at 648 (?) State street. The family resided for several years at 1115 Boyd street recently moving to 209 Park street.
"Andy" Davis, as he was familiarly known to hundreds of the young men and boys of this city, attended the public schools in alexandria Bay before coming to this city and then attended Academy street school and the Watertown High school. Helacked several credits necessary for graduation from the High school when he entered the Northern Business college from which he was graduated.
He assisted his father in the operation of the store and later was employed in the office of the Bargley & Sewell Company and this summer was engaged as clerk in the office of the gun carriage plant of New York Air Brake Company.
He lacked two month of being able to register in the first June registration in the selective draft and was registered for service in June of this year. He was examoned and held for full military service and three weeks ago was called to active service.
Private Davis njoyed the military training and was among the twelve men selected to train for non-commissioned officers and he wrote home that if he quallified he would probably be assigned to an officers' training camp.
He possessed splendid physique, weighing 180 (?) pounds and being five feet eleven and a half inches in heighgt, He was a perfect specimen of physical manhood, being well proportioned with little superfourous weight. While at the Academy street school he played on the school basket ball team, and later on the Watertown High school team, Y. M. C. A. representative team, Asbury Methodist Episcopal church team and was a member of the Happy Five Basket ball organization of Dexter. He had always played with the Black River team as well as numerous other amateur atheletic organizations of this section.
Friends of private Davis were surprised to hear of his being ill and were shocked by the news of his death for they knew him to be of great physical endurance. He enjoyed outdoor life and was a member of numerous hunting and treamping parties. If a member of the party, less fortunate than he in physical development found difficulty in keeping up with the rest, "Andy" Davis was the man who was expected to help the exhausted member, for Davis always had plenty of energy to spare.
He applied before going to cam p for entrance to Watertown Lodge F. & A. M., nd his name was voted on and accepted. He was informed by the secretary of the acceptance and arrangements were taken up for a furlough that Davis might return to this city to receive the degree before going overseas. He was a meber of the Asbury Methodist Episcopal church.
He leaves besides his parents, Mr. and MNrs. Hiram P. Davis, one sister, Mrs. Florence Donaldson, wife of Cortland Donaldson, and a nephew, Ralph Davis Springer, all of this city.
The body will arrive next Monday or Tuesday, it is expected accompanied by military escort. His brother-in-law, Cortland Donaldson, and sister, Mrs. Florence Donaldson, also will return with the casket. Arrangements are under considerationj for a military funeral but plans have not yet been completed pendint the arrival of the body.
