  Mary D. Squires, aiged 73 years, widow of the late John T. Squires, died at 8:45 o'clock yesterday morning at the home of her daughter. Mrs. Henry Gray, 24 Cayadutta street.
  She was born October 29, 1854, in Ephratah. a daughter of Peter and Jennie Smith Allen. She resided in Ephratah for a number of vears before residing in Johnstown where she had many friends all of whom will be grieved to learn of her death. She was a member of the Methodist Church of Ephratah.
  The surviving relatives are two daughters Mrs. Henry Gray and Mrs. George Nellis. of this city, and one sister. Mrs. J. D. Nellis of Fort Plain: seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews,
  The funeral will he held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home of a grandaughter, Mrs. Ernest Craver, No. 103 Burton street. Rev. Junius E. Mead. D. D., pastor of the First Methodist church will officiate and interment will lie made in the Ephratah cemetery.

  The funeral of John L Squires, aged 79 years, well known Johnstown resident, whose death occurred Wednesday evening at his home, 23 Cayadutta street, will be held at the late home tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. C. M. Sturgess of the Methodist church will officiate and Interment will be made in the family plot of the Ephratah cemetery.

   John U Squires, aged 79 years, a well known Johnstown resident, passed away last evening at 6:50 o'clock at his home, 23 Cayadutta street. Mr. Squires, a resident of this city for the past 18 years, has been ailing for the past year of a complication of diseases. He was struck by an automobile last October, and although the injuries received in the accident were not directly the cause of the death, Mr. Squires' condition gradually grew worse from that time.
  The deceased was born at Ephratah town of Johnstown, October 23, 1842 the son of Robert Squires and Eva Cole. In 1868 he was united in marriage to Mary Dorothy Allan. He was a carpenter by trade.
  He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church at Ephratah and a member of the Carpenters' Union, in this city.
  Besides his wife he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Henry Gray and Mrs. George Nellis; and 1 son, Peter R. Squires; all of this city, 6 grand children and 2 great-grandchildren.
  Funeral announcement will be made later.

  Mrs. Ida J, Gray, wife of Henry Gray, passed away at the family home, 43 Cayadutta street, at 3 yesterday afternoon. Death was due to a stroke suffered April 12, and since which date she has suffered a gradual decline.
  Mrs. Gray, who was 63 years of age, was born May 24, 1869, in Ephratah, the daughter of John Squires and Mary Allen. She removed to this city about 30 years ago and had since resided here.
  She was a member of the First Methodist church of Ephratah.
  Surviving, besides ber husband, is one sister, Mrs. George Nellis of this city, and several nieces and nephews.
  Funeral services will be conducted from the home at 2 Saturday afternoon, with Rev. Johnson, pastor of the First Methodist church of Ephratah, offficiating. Interment will be in Ephratah Rural cemetery.

  EPHRATAH … Henry Gray who resides with his brother, Eugene Gray was injured last week when a car he was cranking slipped off the block and the front wheel passed over his body. He is at the Nathan Littauer hospital under the care of Dr. Gilmore.

  Funeral services were held yesterday at the Ephratah Reformed Church for the late Henry Gray, who died Friday at the Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloveraville. A brother, Eugene, Ephratah, was the sole survivor.

 - Obituary (The Morning Herald, Gloversville and Johnstown, NY, Saturday, November 23, 1940)
  Henry Gray, 78, of Ephratah, former resident of this city, died yesterday morning about 5 in the Nathan Littauer hospital of diabetic gangrene.
  He was taken to the hospital Wednesday, where his right leg was amputated in an effort to save his life, but without success.
  Mr. Gray was born in the Town of Ephratah, March 10, 1864, son of Solomon Gray and Ann C. Nellls. He resided in this city for a number of years, but about six years ago returned to Ephratah to make his home. He was a teamster by occupation and at one time was employed in the street department here.
  His wife. Ida Squires Gray, died six years ago. The only survivors are one brother, Eugene of Ephratah, and several nephews and nieces.
  A prayer service will be held Sunday afternoon at 1 at the A. G. Cole Funeral Home, and the funeral will be held at 3:30 in the Ephratah Reformed church. The Rev. Maurice Snyder will officiate and Interment will be made at Ephratah.

 - Obituary (The Morning Herald, Gloversville and Johnstown, NY, Wednesday, February 12, 1941)
  Mrs. Ella Allen Nellis, 73, wife of John D. Nellis, died at her home early Tuesday morning following a stroke on Monday. Mrs. Nellis was born in Ephratah on December 11, 1865, the daughter of Peter and Jane Smith Allen and had resided all her life in this section. She had been a resident of Fort Plain for the last 20 years. Recently Mr. and Mrs. Nellis celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary.
  Mrs. Nellis was a member of Fort Plain Chapter, D. A. R.; Fort Plain Woman's Club, the Missionary Society of the Fort Plain Reformed church, the Ladies' Aid of the old Palatine church at Stone Arabia, the Stone Arabia church and the Ladies' Aid and Missionary Society of that church.
  The survivors are her husband John D. Nellis; two sons, Carl Nellis of St. Johnsville and Adin Nellis of Fort Plain; on daughter, Mrs. Wilbur Saltsman of Palatine; seven grand children and several neices and nephews.
  The funeral will be at the home on Thursday at 2 P. M., the Rev. Stanley Haverly, pastor of the Stone Arabia Lutheran church, officiating. The remains will be places in the vault of the Catheine Nellis Memorial Chapel until Spring when interment will be made in Fort Plain Cemetery.

  St Johnsville - John D. Nellis celebrated his 92nd birthday at the home of his grandaughter, and her husband Mrs. Leslie Rockefeller, 47 North Division St., recently, with 30 guests attending an open house given in his honor..
  Nellis was born at the Nellis homestead in the Town of Palatine. He has three children; Carl, 35 Center St., Adin, Fort Plain and Mrs. Wilbur Saltsman, Palatine Bridge; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, also one living sister, Mrs. John Kilts, Fort Plain.
  Nellis who is in good health, enjoys his favorite pastime, playing dominoes.

Marriage Notes for Sarah Ella Allen and John Daniel Nellis

 - 50th Wedding Anniversary (The Morning Herald, Gloversville and Johnstown, NY, Thursday, February 6, 1936)
  FORT PLAIN—Mr. and Mrs. John D. Nellis celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Monday. They were given a surprise party during the day by their children, Mr. and Mrs. Carl J. Nellis, Mr. and Mrs. A. Nellis and Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Saltsman. The anniversary was announced over "Cheerio" and the couple were showered with cards, telegrams and bouquets. Their children presented them with a basket of 50 daffodils.
  In the evening a mock wedding was held in the presence of several guests. The rooms were decorated with gold crepe paper and the ceremony was performed under an arch of evergreens and flowers with wedding bells. The wedding march was played by Mrs. A Nellis and the bridal party was composed of grandchildren of the couple. After the ceremony a wedding supper was served to 80 guests. A feature of the affair was a wedding cake decorated with a miniature bride and bridegroom and 50 lighted candles of gold and white. Assemblyman L. J. Shaver in behalf of the guests presented the guests of honor with a gift of money.

  Mrs. Mary E. Allen, aged 63, died yesterday morning about 4 at her home 56 Mill street. Death was due to heart trouble.
  Mrs. Allen was born in Ephratah, the daughter of Henry Soules and Maria Van Alstyne. She had been a resident of this city for the past forty years. She is survived by one daughter, Etta; one grandson and two brothers, George Soules of this city and Benjamin Soules of Ephratah.
   The funeral will be held Friday morning at 10 at Buchanan's undertaking parlors. The Rev. Chas. M. Sturgess D. D., will officiate and burial will be made in the Ephratah cemetery.
