William D. Hesler, formerly a resident of Lowville, died Sunday in Flower Memorial hospital, New York city. Mr. Hesler was born in 1854 in Woodstock, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James D. Hesler, and the family removed to Lowville about 60 years ago. For many years the father was employed as a cutter in the clothing store of Lennox & Bostwick, and later was engaged in the same line of business in partnership with the late Charley G. Elliott. William D. Hesler was educated at Lowville Academy, and during his early manhood was engaged as clerk for Lowville merchants, as mail agent on the old Utica and Black River railroad and still later was associated with the late Rev. W. R. Fitch in the publication of the Lowville Times. He left Lowville about 25 years ago and has since resided in New York. During his residence in Lowville he was an active member of the Masonic order, prominently identified with the Republican party and served as secretary of the county committee.
January 11, 1882, the deceased married Jennie Smith Babcock, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William L. Babcock, who died December 28, 1905. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. George M. B. Williams, Lyons Falls; Mrs. Harold J. Richardson, Lowville and Miss Emily Hesler, New York City. A son died several years ago.
The body was brought to Lowville Monday morning and funeral Services were held Tuesday afternoon from the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Richardson, Rev. Walter L. Bennett, rector of Trinity church, officiating.

Mrs. William D. Hesler expired suddenly at 6:30 this morning while sitting at the breakfast table at her home on Park avenue, death being due to apoplexy. Mrs. Hesler arose between 5 and 6 o’clock and prepared breakfast for her son-in-law, Mr. G. M. B. Williams, who was to take the 7 o’clock train for Port Leyden. Mrs. Hesler and Mr. Williams had finished breakfast, and, having a few minutes to spare before train time, were sitting at the table visiting, when Mrs. Hesler suddenly put her hand to her head and complained of pain. A second later she fell forward and expired instantly. Dr. F. A. Crane was summoned and attributed death due to apoplexy. Mrs. Hosier's mother, Mrs. Kate Babcock, and youngest brother, H. Allyn Babcock, are visiting friends in Rochester.
Mrs. Hesler was the eldest daughter of the late William L. Babcock and was born in Lowville 47 years ago. She was united in marriage with William D. Hesler 24 years ago, and besides her husband is survived by three daughters and one son, Mrs. G. M. B. Williams, of Port Leyden; Misses Katherine and Emily Hesler and James L. Hesler; also her mother, Mrs. Kate Babcock, and three brothers, William L. and H. Allyn Babcock, of Lowville, and Louis E. Babcock, of Page. The deceased was a member of Trinity Episcpal church. She was held in high esteem in the community where she passed her entire life, and her sudden death calls forth many sincere expressions of love and sympathy

The funeral of Miss Emily Hesler was held from the home of her sister, Mrs. Harold J. Richardson, Shady Ave at 3 o’clock Tuesday, and burial was made in Rural Cemetery. Miss Hesler died unexpectedly in Roosevelt Hospital, New York, June 17, 1939. She was born in Lowville, daughter of the late William D. and Jennie Babcock Hesler. Following graduation from Lowville Academy she was graduated from the Uticaa School of Commerce and for a number of years was employed in a law office in Utica. For the past 12 years she had lived in New York.
She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, this village, and its Circle Six; of Delta Gamma Delta and the Order of the Eastern Star.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Richardson, and Mrs. G. M. B. Williams, Lyons Falls.
