Charles D. Getman, 75, and William B. Getman, 69, brothers and prominent lifelong residents of the town of Columbia, died last week within a few hours, the former passing away Friday morning, the latter Thursday night. Charles Getman was the father of Columbia Supervisor John W. Getman.
Charles D. Getman died at his home in North Columbia at 9:30 Friday morning, following an illness of ten years. He was born in the town of Columbia November 24,1853 and spent his life in that township being engaged in farming. He was a member of the Methodist Protestant Church of North Columbia and of Ilion Lodge 691 F. & A. M. He was married to Ada Wolcott in December, 1875, who survives, also one son, John W. Getman; a daughter, Mrs. Harold Beebe, and three grandchildren, all of North Columbia.
His funeral was held Monday in the North Columbia Church, the Reverend L. A. Brice officiating. At the North Columbia Cemetery the Masonic service was read.
William E. Getman died Thursday night. following a lingering illness. He was born in the town of Columbia July 28, 1859, where he had always lived and since the death of his wife 12 years ago had made his home with his brother who followed him so closely in death. He was a member of the Methodist Protestant Church of North Columbia, He is survived by a nephew, Supervisor John W. Getman, and a niece, Mrs. Harold Beebe of North Columbia.
The funeral was held Sunday and interment was made in Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer

Ilion - Harold E. Beebe, 72, of North Columbia, died yesterday in his home after a long illness.
He was born June 15, 1888, in the Town of Columbia, son of Charles and Ellen Slaughter Beebe.
He married Allie Getman. Mrs. Beebe died several years ago.
Mr. Beebe was a farmer and was also a Herkimer County Deputy Cherrif and night jailor.
He was a member of the North Columbia Methodist Church and Winfield Masonic Lodge F&AM.
He leaves several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at 2, Monday from the Applegate Funeral Home, Ilion. Burial in North Columbia Cemetery.

TRIBES HILL — Benjamin A. Edick, 71, of Tribes Hill, died Wednesday morning at Veteran's Hospital, Albany, where he had been a patient since' Sunday.
FUNERAL SERVICES WILL be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Jackson funeral home, Fonda, with the Rev. Robert H.Crilley, pastor of the Tribes Hill Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment will be in Pine Grove cemetery, Tribes Hill.
Mr. Edick was born in the Town of Columbia, Herkimer County, December 10, 1888. On Oct 25, 1925, he was married to the former Elizabeth Weber Churchill. Mrs. Edick died in
1953.
Edick was employed as an iron worker by the New York Central Railroad for many years; was a member of the Tribes Hill Presbyterian Church; and a veteran of World war I.
Survivors are one sister, Mrs. Myra Stroup, West Onenota; one nephew; two step-daughters, Mrs. Orville Mussey, Falls Church, Va.; and Mrs. Alvah Tryon, Schoharie; one' step-son, Milton Andrews, Beaufort, South Carolina.

ILION — Mrs. Marion Hakes Herron, 88, of The Meadows, New Hartford, a native of Ilion, died Friday in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Utica.
She was born Oct. 9, 1885 in Ilion, the daughter of Seward and Marion Irlam Hakes. She attended Ilion Central High School and Vassar College, and was graduated from Columbia Teachers’ College, New York City. She was married to Goodsell W. Herron on July 29, 1929 in Ilion.
Mrs Herron was a biology teacher in East Orange High School, East Orange, N J for about 25 years, residing in that area for almost 40 years. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in East Orange.
Besides her husband, she leaves two sisters, Miss Elizabeth Hakes, Rochester, and Mrs. John (Jane) Dale, New Hartford, and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews
Funeral services will be at 3 pm tomorrow from the Applegate Funeral Home, with the Rev. David Terns, rector of Grace Episcopal Church, Mohawk, officiating. Interment will be in Armory Hill Cemetery. There are no calling hours.

Saturday, July 27, ae St. Augustine's Church, Ilion, N.Y., occured the marriage of Miss Marion Hakes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Seward Hakes, of Ilion, and Goodsell Warren Herron, son of Mrs. Samuel E. Brooks, Angola, Ind. The ceremony was performed by Rev. lloyd R. Benson, in the presence of the families.
Mrs. Percy Grant presided at the organ, assisted by Miss Constance Miller, violinist.
Miss Elizabeth G. Hakes was her sister's maid of honor, and the best man was Irving F. Brown, of Maplewood, N.J., brother-in-law of the groom. The bride was given in marriage by her uncle, F. B. Shephert of Oswego.
The bride is a graduate of the Teacher's college, Columbia university: Mr. Herron is a graduate of De Pauw university and holds a degree of master of arts from Columbia. He is a member of the Delta Upsilon fraternity.
The bride and groom left immediately after the wedding for a ten day's trip in the Adirondacks, then came to Angola, for a ten day's visit with Mrs. Brooks.
After September 1, Mr. and Mrs. Herron will live in East Orange, N.J, where Mr. Herron is and instructor in the science department of the high school.

Miss Elizabeth G. Hakes came to Geneseo in 1923; and received her BS. and M.A. degrees from Columbia University. She also did undergraduate study at Oswego State.
Miss Hakes is a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, national honor society; National Art Association; New York State Art Association; New York State Teachers Association; Livingston County Historical Association; and the Museum Memorial Art Gallery in Rochester.
She states that she has enjoyed watching the changes in buildings on the Geneseo campus and the change from a two year normal school, to a three year normal school, and to a State University Teachers College.

On Monday evening, at her home, on Benedict avenue, Ilion, occurred the death of Anna Sumner Hakes, wife of George Getman Hakes. Mrs. Hakes was the daughter of Alzina Angell and George Berkeley Sumner. She spent her girlhood in Mohawk. There in 1893 she married George G. Hakes and had since them lived in Ilion. Her friendly nature and kindly disposition drew to her many friends, who will greatly miss her from their circle. Mrs. Hakes was a devoted member of the Presbyterian Church and she took a very active interest in the work of the Woman's Missionary Society. She Was a woman of rare personality and her musical talent and literary appreciation gave to her and to others much pleasure in her activities in the Travelers' Club and in the Shakespeare Club, of which she was a charter member. Surviving are her husband, her son, George Alton Hakes, her sister and her brother, Mrs. G. L. Prescott and Arthur M. Sumner, both of Rome.
Mrs. Hakes had visited in Rome on a number of occasions and had many friends and acquaintances here who will regret to learn of her death.

Ilion. Nov. 10—Floyd Sbepard Brooks, former postmaster, died at his home at 71 First Avenue at today, following an illness of about three months.
Mr. Brooks, the son of the late Alfred E. Brooks and Abby W. Brooks, was born in this village at the corner of Seuard and Morgan street August 4, 1864.
He was ldentified with the Remington Typewriter Company for many years, and was a foreman at the factory. In 1907 he was appointed post master, which office he held eight years. During the World War he was a member of the United States Drafting board.
In 1893 he was married to Floy D. Shapard at West North Street, who survives with three children, Mrs. Albert M. Ross and Alfred E. Brooks of Illon, and Mrs. Percy N. Edwards of Garden City, L. I., also two grandchildren. Jack and Brooks Edwards of Garden City. L. I.
He was member of the Commune Renum Club, Illon Lodge 1444, B. P. O. Elks, and for many years the Moronic Lodge of Ilion.
The funeral will be held from the home 76 First Avenue, Wednesday at 2. Rev. L. R. Benson will officiate, and burial will be in the Armory Hill Cemetery.

Ilion—Mrs. Floy Brooks, 83, of 75 First Ave., widow of Floyd Brooks and a member of one of Ilion's pioneer families, died last night in Ilion Hospital after a long illness.
Mrs. Brooks was born May 15, 1870, only one of the eleven children of Floyd C. and Lydia Beardsley Shepherd to be born in Ilion. Her father was president of the National Bank and Trust Company for several years. In 1869, he donated the land where the first Episcopal Church in the village was built, at the corner of Central Ave. and W. North St.
The family home was north of the old Erie Canal, and Mrs. Brooks ana her brothers and sisters used to cross the old canal bridge every school day to attend classes in the stone schoolhouse on the site of the Municipal Building. There were no streets in that section of the village when Mrs.Brooks was born. Mrs. Brooks was a graduate of St. Agnes School, Albany.
On Oct. 16, 1883, she was married to Floyd S. Brooks in Ilion. He died in 1929. She was a member of St Augustine’s Church, a charter member of the Ilion Travelers’ Club and a member of the Women’s Hospital Board.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs- Percy N. Edwards, Garden City, L. I., and Mrs. Albert M. Ross. Darien, Conn.; a son, Alfred Brooks, Ilion; two sisters, Miss Grace W Shepherd, Ilion, and Mrs. A. D. Richardson, Middletown, Conn.; four grandsons, a granddaughter, a great-granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be conducted by the Rev. R. Louis Somers, rector of St. Augustine’s Church, at 2 p.m. Saturday from the Whiter Funeral Home, with interment in Armory Hill Cemetery.- Funeral (The Evening Telegram, Herkimer, New York, Friday, August 21, 1953)

St. Augustine's church was crowed to its utmost capacity Wednesday evening to witness the ceremony attending the marriage of Miss Floy D. Shepard, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Shepard. to Floyd S. Brooks, only son of Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Brooks of this village. The groom, is popular and fills a responsible position, having been associated with his father as a contractor in the typewriter works for several years. The bride is one of llion's most brilliant young ladies. The church was beautifully trimmed for this "pink and white wedding." About the chancel was a tasteful display of pink and white chrysanthemums intermingled with palms. Miss Gene Rose acted as maid of honor, and the Misses Mae Wilcox and Mae Pelton as bridesmaids. Gilbert B. Pelton acting as best man, and A. D.
Richardson and Robt. S. Shepard as ushers. At 8 o'clock, in response to Mendelssohn's wedding march, the bridal party approached the chancel, led by the best man and maid of honor and the bridesmaids, attired in pink silk gowns and silk mull fichues of the same color,
presenting an attractive appearance. They were followed by the bride, leaning on the arm of her father. The bride preseated a charming appearance. Her trosseau was of rich white silk mull, accordeon pleaited, with pearl lace trimmings. She wore an ellegant diamond pendant, the gift of the groom, and carried a bunch of white chrisanthemums. They were met at the chancel by the groom, where the impressive marriage ceremony of the Episcopal service was performed by the rector, Rev. W. M. Cook, assisted by the former rector of St. Augustine's church. Rev. S. M. Grswold, of Christ's church. Hudson. After the ceremony a receptioa for the immediate relatives and friends of the contracting parties and families represented was held at the home of the bride, 15 West North street, where an elegant display of numerous and valuable presents attested the high esteem in which the young people are held by a wide circle of friends. After an extended wedding trip, Mr. and Mrs. Brooks will return and make Ilion their home, occupying the handsome new residence on Otsego street.
