Encountered Panthers
Dolgeville. June 25.—Lynn Getman had an encounter with panthers a few days ago while on an outing in the region of Black Cat Creek, about 25 miles north of this village. Mr. Getman had left the camp armed with only a 32-caliber revolver when, a short distance away, he saw a male and female panther slouching along ahead of him in a threatening attitude. They came closer and he fired several shots from his revolver, wounding one of the animals. When the last shot was gone Mr. Getman began his way in the direction of the camp, managing to keep the panthers at a safe distance by keeping his weapon pointed in their direction. With a final spurt he reached the camp in safety and his pursuers sneaked off into the woods. Other panthers have lately been reported in the Black Cat section and every few days the remains of a sheep waylaid by them is found.- Obituary (The Evening Telegram, Herkimer, NY, Thursday, July 15, 1971)

(Utica Daily Press, NY, Friday, June 15 1951)
To the Editor:
Defense Secretary Marshall said the Korea war may continue for 10 years. General Bradley agreed. If it is the State Department's policy to continue the conflict in Korea while our soldiers are killed by Russian war supplies transported through Manchuria to the Chinese Communist army, it will fail. Appeasement of Russia will not restore American freedom in the Pacific territory where many of our brave boys gave their lives while Russia remained neutral until a few days before surrender in World War II.
It was stated by the military advisers that Chiang Kai-shek at the demand of Stalin, was urged into the agreement for joint control of all railroads in Manchuria. The concessions made against the advice of the military to both commanders at Yalta were confirmed at the Potsdam conference. This gave Stalin control of Communist China. The Russian-made guns reported left behind in the Communist retreat show that Russia is involved in the aggression against the U. N. army.
The first article of the Constitution gives Congress the right to declare war. This authority is in effect until repealed by a vote of the people. The conflict cannot continue indefinitely. Our intelligence knows that our Pacific territory is imperiled and countries freed from tyranny in the Spanish war will be threatened with exile under the present appeasement policy. Is the wait and see proposal to continue at the sacrifice of our army in Korea, without trying to stop Communist aid? The dismissal of MacArthur and Admiral Denfeld is shameful. The Christian fellowship advance by MacArthur with the Japanese will be recognized by millions of church members in the United States .and the citizens who declare for honesty and integrity in the conduct of federal affairs.
