  South Columbia ... Another pair of tired hands are folded and laid to rest. The funeral of Helen Nelson, wife of Carmi Skinner, who died of heart disease Thursday morning, was held at her late home Sunday at 11 a. m. The casket was surrounded by beautiful floral tributes from friends. Rev. Stuart offered words of consolation to the family and friends. She was in her 58th year and leaves a husband, three daughters, Mrs. Howard Pett and the Misses Clara and Jennie Skinner and two sons, Messrs. Devere and Grover Skinner.

 Obituary (The Evening Telegram, Herkimer-Ilion, NY, Wednesday, March 27, 1957)
  MOHAWK—DeVere Skinner, 86, of RD 1, a farmer, died yesterday in Herkimer Memorial Hospital after an extended Illness.
  Mr. Skinner was bom on Jan. 11, 1871, In the Town of Columbia, a son of Carmi and Ellen Nelson Skinner. A farmer most of his life, he owned his own farm here. He attended the Mohawk Methodist Church.
  Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Jennie Bell of West Winfield; a brother, Grover Skinner of Gowanda; three nephews and one niece.
  Services will be conducted at 1:30 p. m. Friday from the Applegate Funeral home, Ilion, by the Rev. Richard Grant, pastor of the Moawk Methodist Church, with burial in Jordanviile Cemetery.

  RICHFIELD SPRINGS ... The death of Miss Clara L. Skinner occurred on July 12th, after a long illness.
  Born in South Columbia, sixty-three years ago, the daughter of Carmi and Ellen Nelson Skinner, she spent much of her life in this section of the state. At one time she was employed in a bank at Deposit.
  She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Howard Pett of Ilion and Mrs. Jennie Bell of West Winfield, and by two brothers, Devere and Grover Skinner of Miller's Mills. The funeral was held from the McGrath Funeral home this village, on Wednesday, the Rev. Norman Adams officiating and the interment was in Jordanville.

  TURNERS FALLS — Leon C. Skinner, 84, of 17 Stevens Street retireed proprietor of Skinner & Flagg, Jewelers and optometrists, died Saturday at Farren Memorial Hospital.
  Born in Millers Mills, N.Y., Jan. 7, 1876, he was the son of John W. and Mary (Casler) Skinner. He had lived in Turners Falls 50 years and was a licensed optometrist.
  He had operated the Skinner & Flagg firm at Avenue A and Third Street for 34 years until his retirement several years ago. He was a member of the First Congregational Church. His wife, the former Lula M. Walrath, died in 1955.
  He leaves a sister, Mrs. Ora Klipple of St. Petersburg, Fla., two nephews and one niece.
   Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the First Congregational Church. Rev. Alvin F. Desterhaft, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer, N.Y., on Wednesday following services at 1 p.m. at the Alton J. Fenner Funeral Home, Herkimer.


Lula M Walrath

  HERKIMER - Mrs. Lula M. Skinner, 75, of 15 Stevens St. Turners Falls, Mass, a native of Herkimer, died Nov. 8, 1955 in the Farren Memorial Hospital there.
  She was born March 20, 1880 in Herkimer, a daughter of Ezra and Emogene DeGraff Walrath. She had been a resident of Turner Falls for 49years.
  Surviving are her husband, Leon C. Skinner; a brother, George P. Walrath, Mohaw, several nieces and nephews.
  The funeral will be at 10:30 Friday from the Fenner Funeral Home, the Rev. Fred G. Cotnam, pastor of the First Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

  Herkimer, Sept. 14. - On Thursday evening at 6 o'clock, occurred a very pretty home wedding at 114 George street, when Leon C. Skinner and Miss Lula M. Walrath were united in marriage. Rev.W. DempsterChase of the First M. E. Church officiated. The attending couple was Rosslyn J. Stafford of Ithaca and Miss Ora B. Skinner, sister of the groom. Only a few relatives and intimate friends of the bride and groom were present. both the bride and bridesmaid were tastifully attired for the occasion. After the ceremony an ample wedding supper was served, after which the happy couple left on the New York Central for a tour through the New England States. the bride and groom are well known and highly esteemed young people. Mr. Skinner is associated with J. A. Schrott in the jewelry business. The bride is well known as a teacher in this county. A wide circle of relatives and friends unite in extending wishes for a long and happy marriage.

  Mrs. Lela Kunze, 69, wife of Arthur F Kunze, who was killed last night when struck by an auto in front of her home on Route 5, east of this village, was a native of Richfield.
  She was born Feb. 5, 1880, a daughter of the late Frank and Isabel Burton Bargey.
  For several years she taught in New York and in New, Jersey. She was married to Mr. Kunze in Illon in 1913 [sic].
  The couple came to this village 25 years ago and built their new home on Route 5.
  Mrs. Kunze represented several large wholesale houses, taking orders for dresses, lingerie and other products.
   Her business took her to Canastota, Oneida, Sherill and throughout this village. It was while returning home from one of these trips, that she met death in front of her home last night as she alighted from a bus.
  Mrs. Kunze was affiliated with the Methodist Church.
  Surviving besides her husband, are two sisters, Mrs. Lawrence Cavanaugh, Arcadia, Calif., and Mrs. Lester Olson, Highland Park, Ill.
  The funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at the Alger Funeral Home. Friends are invited and may call at the funeral home, Saturday afternoon and evening between the hours of 2 and 5, and 7 to 9 p. m.

  VERNON - Arthur F, Kunze, 75, passed away at his home here Monday morning, Sept. 1, after a long illness.
  He was bora at Ilion, June 9, 1883, son of August and Elvira Hacker Kunze. Mr. Kunze was twice married, his first wife was Lela Bargey, whom he married on Aug. 27, 1915. She died Nov. 10, 1949. Later, he married Mrs. Ethel Mason, Ilion. who survives.
  He was graduated from Ilion High School, and was a member of the Ilion Methodist Church. He was a former District Deputy of the Odd Fellows Lodge, while a member of the Golden Star Lodge, Ilion. At one time he was employed at  the Remington Typewriter, Ilion, and later at Oneida Ltd., until his retirement. He had resided at his present home for 34 years.
  Surviving besides his wife are two sisters. Mrs. Frank Sackett, Ilion, and Mrs. William Blinker, Croton-on-the-Hudson; a niece, Miss Winifred Sackett. Ilion, and a step-son, Reginald Mason, Ilion.
  The funeral will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Alger Funeral Home, with the Rev. Carlton Van Ornum, Ilion, and the Rev. Fredrick W. Cook, Vernon officiating. Interment will be in Vernon Village Cemetery.

 - Olcott C. began the study of medicine in 1853 and graduated at the Philadelphia University in 1858 end began the practice of medicine at Richfield Springs. He married Miss Celeste Barrus (daughter of Alvin Barrus). Later they separated and he married the widow of Louis Bump, born, Libbie Skinner, (Daughter of Benjamin) lived in Winfield and Middlefield where he died Feb. 12, 1907. (Hatch)

 - Dr O. C. Orendorf was born in Columbia, N, Y., in 1830. He commenced the study of medicine in 1853 and graduated at the Philadelphia University in 1857. The same year he began the practice of medicine at Richfield Springs, where he remained till 1872. His wife was Elizabeth Skinner, a. native of Columbia. His father was also a native of Columbia. He married Miss Tunnicliff, who was a native of Otsego county. They had five children. (History of Herkimer County)

 - Obituary (Utica Herald-Dixspatch, NY, Monday, August 16, 1909)
  Ilion. Aug. 16.—Christopher Skinner, a well known farmer who resided at Richfield Hill. dropped dead at the Bartlett home at East Winfield about 6:30 o'clock Frlday afternoon. Mr. Skinner had lust returned from another farm, where he had been engaged in threshing, and was moving his machinery to the Bartlett farm. He had onlv reached the barn when he suddenly fell over and expired. Coroner Getman of Frankfort was called and after an investiration stated that death was caused by chronic heart trouble, with which the deceased had been troubled for a long time. He was 57 vears of age. Besides his wife, he is survived bv two sons and one daughter. The funeral will be held to-morrow afternoon at 1 o'clock.

 - Funeral (Find A Grave)
  The funeral of the late Christopher H. Skinner of Richfield Hill who dropped dead from heart disease last week, was held at his late residence Aug. 17th, 1909. Rev. R. E. King of Ilion assisted by Rev. F. S. Cook of Millers Mills officiated. The chiour from Millers Mills sang appropriate selections. Mr. Skinner was born in Columbia July 7, 1852 and died Aug. 13, 1909. He is survived by his wife, Anna Dayger Skinner and two sons, William and Charles who reside at the homestead, also one daughter, Sadie Skinner Cole of Chadwicks, on brother John C. Skinner of Columbia and one sister living in Massachusetts. The funeral was largely attended in spite of the rain and bad roads. Mr. Skinner was well knownby all this part of the county and will be greatly missed. Burial was at Cedarville where the funeral party were met by a large number of friends.

  The death of Anna Dayger Skinner occured Tuesday evening, December 18th after a very short illness. Mrs. Skinner was the daughter of Ira and Lucinda Dayger and was born near Fort Herkimer, March 10th, 1852. When very young she moved with her parents to Richfield Hill where most of her life has been spent. In 1869 she married Christophe Skinner who died in 1909. Two sons, William I. and Charles Skinner of this place and one daughter, Mrs. E. B. Cole of Chadwick survive. Mrs. Skinner was a good neighbor and was held in high esteem by all who knew her. the funeral was held privately from her late home Saturday, the Rev. Mr. Fortner of Miller's Mills officiating. Interment at Cedarville.

  William J. Skinner dropped dead in a grocery store here Saturday night and Dr. H. V. Frink, Richfield Springs coroner, said death was due to a heart attack. He was sixty-seven.
  Mr. Skinner who lived between Richfield Springs and West Winfield, had been visiting his brother, Charles of West Exeter, whom he was helping harvest his potato crop. He was a son of Christopher and Anna Dayger Skinner and had been a farmer all his life.
  Besides his brother he leaves a niece and three nephews.
  The funeral will be at 1 p. m. Wednesday from the home of his brother in West Exeter, with burial in Cedarville cemetery.

  Charles B. Skinner, 84, 9 Church Rd., Clayville, died May 13, 1959, in St. Lukes Memorial Hospital Center after a long illness.
  He was born July 24, 1874, in Town of Richfield. He married Hattie LaVine, who died in 1952. He operated the Skinner potato farm in Richfield for the majority of his life. Later, he conducted the Skinner sawmill in Exeter. For the past three years he had lived in Clayville. He was a member of the Baptist Church.
  There are no near survivors.
  The funeral will be at 10 tomorrow from the chapel of the John S. Friedel Funeral Home, Court and York, with the Rev. Jack James, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Cedarville Cemetery.
  Calling hours at the funeral home are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 today.

  Mrs. Hattie Skinner, aged 71, died June 23, 1952, in Faxton Hospital, Utica, after an illness of two weeks.
  She was born December 11, 1880, in Oxford, a daughter of James and Caroline Weaver Burlison. She was married on August 5, 1918 to Charles Skinner, and the couple resided here for the past 17 years. She was a member of the Methodist church of Coventryville.
  Mrs. Skinner leaves her husband and a sister, Mrs. Henry Martin, Edmeston.
  The funeral will be at 2 o'clock, Wednesday from the Houk Funeral Home, Edmeston, the Rev. Donald Benoit, officiating. Burial will be in Cedarville cemetery.

  Columbia - John C. Skinner - After a severe illness caused by double pneumonia and a week heart John C. Skinner died Thursday afternoon. His ancestor, Gershom Skinner after serving in the Revolution, was an early settler in Columbia where his descendents for. five and six generations have continued to reside. He was the last survivor of the three sons and three daughters of Benjamin Skinner and is survived by his wife who is recovering from a severe illness, four sons, two daughters and a number of grandchildren. Funeral service was held at his late home Sunday afternoon at two o'clock and the remains will rest with his kindred in the Columbia cemetery.

She was maried to John Skinner who died several years ago. Later she was married to Mr Rising. She is survived by her husband, four sons, Hiram Skinner of Herkimer, Merton of Richfield Springs, John and Clayton of Columbia, two daughters, Mrs Leo Hilts of North Ilion, and Mrs George Grever of Spinnerville, a sister Mrs Alvia House of Ilion, a brother Wallace Jones of Ilion, nineteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren. The funeral was held at her home Wednesday afternoon.

  Mohawk, Feb. 4 - Mrs. Mary Pangburn Worden, wife of the late Jerome Worden, died at ther home in the town of Columbia, south of Mohawk, Saturday morning. Mrs. Wordens death was due ot paralusis.
  Mrs. Worden was born at Black Creek April 22, 1851. Her parents were the late David Pangburn and Catherine Hess. On May 12 1864, she was married to Jerome Worden and most of their life has been spent in the couthern part of Herkimer County. Mr. Worden died January 22 and was buried one week previous to the death of his wife. Mrs. Worden was a member of the Baptist Church and the W. R. C. She was a quiet, home-loving woman and had the respect and esteem of all.
  Six children survive, Charles, Dennison's Corners; Mrs. Carrie Hunt, Richfield Springs; Fred, Mohawk; Albert, Herkimer; Earl, Rochester; William, Dennison's Corners; also a brother, Adelbert Pangburn, who resided with the deceased. the funeral was held Monday afternoon at 1 o'clock. Rev. c. E. Ridgeway of Columbia Center officiating. The remains were placed in the vault in Oak Hill Cemetery in Herkimer.

  Veteran of Civil War and Native of Town of Russia Dies Near Mohawk at 79
   Mohawk Jan 24 - The death of Jerome Worden, Civil War Veteran, occured late Wednestay afternoon at his home in the town of Columbia, South of Mohawk, following a long illness.
 Mr Worden , was a native of the town of Russia, where he was born 79 years ago on May 20, 1844. His parents were the late Sylvanus and Evan Devoe Worden. He married Mary Pangburn, May 14 1864, and they lived for some time in Prospect, but the greater part of their lives had been spent in the southern part of Herkimer County. Mr Worden was .... Union values and enlisted early in the conflict at Boonville. He was honorably discharged three times for injuries and ill health but reenlisted as soon as possible. Mr Worden was the proud possesser of 13 badges, the results of his war services. He followed the occupation of farming and was a man who had the respect and esteem of all. In politics he was a Republican. He was an attendant of the Baptist Church and member of Chismore Post, G.A.R. at Ilion.
  Besides his widow, six children survive, Charles Worden, Dennison's Corners; Mrs Carrie Hunt, Richfield Springs; Albert Worden of Herkimer; Fred Worden of Mohawk; Earl Worden of Rochester and William Worden of Dennison's Corners; also a half-brother William Worden of Rochester.
