Marriage Notes for Ralph Owens Weaver and Lulu Singleton
- Wedding Announcement (Utica Herald-Dispatch, NY, Wednesday, November 25, 1914)
The weddirg of Miss Lulu Estella Singleton, daughter of Mrs. Antoinette Singleton of Green street, and Ralph Owen Weaver, son of Mrs. Van R. Weaver of Deerfleld, was solemnized at St. Lukes Episcopal Church at 10: 30 o'clock this morning in the presence of a large gathering.
The cereemony uniting the young couple was performed by the Rev. Francis Curtis Smith, rector of St. Luke's, the Episcopal ring service being used.
Miss singleton entered the church alone and passed down the center aisle banked on either side wiih an assemblage of admiring friends and relatives of the bride and groom. Her charming presence was heightened by a costume of golden brown pan velvet with a hat of fetching style to match amd she wore a corsage decoration a large bouquet of pink roses and lilies of the valley, the traditional bridal bouquet being displaced by a muff, to match her costume and hat, trimmed with fitch fur.
The bridal party met at the altar, where the bride, was given away by her brother, Alber II. Singleton, who with Harry Weaver, a brother of the bridgroom were the ushers. Mrs. Lena Upshaw, a friend of the bride was at the organ and gave a brightness of musical touch with a selection from Shumann's "Poets Love." With the betrothal. Miss Leila Hitzelberger, also an intimate friend of the brlde sang with rare feeling, "O Promise Me" and at the conclusion of the ceremony sang in tones that gave delight, "I Will Love You Truly."
The ceremony was marked by a pleasing combination of rich simplicity and beauty, the wedding party presenting a truly charming picture against the background of yellow crysanthemums with which the altar was banked high. Miss Jane Updyke of Binghamton, who was the bridesmaid. was attired in a fetching costume of green broadcloth, trimmed with martin fur. She wore a.black picture hat and carried a bouquet of pink crysanthemums. Clarence Weaver, a brother of groom, was best man.
The bride's gift to her bridesmaid was a beautiful vestee brooch, while the groom gave to his best man and ushers handsome scarf pins.
Immediately following the ceremony the couple went to the New York Central station, where they boarded a train for New York. They will also visit Boston before returning to take up their residence at the groom's home in Deerfleld.
The wedding of Miss Singleton and Mr. Weaver concluded a round of social receptions which have been held during the last several weeks and in which the popularity of the bride has been most conspicuously attended. The bride is a young woman of much personal charm and beauty. She received her education in the public schools and at the Balliol School, which succeeded Miss Piatt's School. Anong the great number of presents - exquisite and costly — bestowed upon the bride was the deed for a parcel of property fronting Fourth Lake in the Adironracks. where the couple will have a summer home, by the bride's mother. A silver tea service of rarely beautiful design and finish was given by Mrs. Weaver, the mother of the groom.
Mr.. Weaver is one of the best liked young men of Deerfleld and Utica and is engaged in the manufacture of knit goods here. He was graduated from ---- College. Boston. He is a son of the late Van R. Weaver, who was United States Marshal here at the time of his death.
