Gourerneur, Jan. 12 - George Kring of Philadelphia, N. Y. had a narrow escape from death after he had drunk a quantity of liquor containing wood alcohol here Thursday night. Kring was in a serious condition all day yesterday but was able to return to his home with the assistance of his daughter, Mrs. Garaau this morning.
Kring, who at one time lived here, came to this village Thursday with a phonograph he desired to get repaired. He told the police that he met one Bert Duscharm and that the two went into a West Main street establishment where they had several drinks.
The naxt thing Kring remembers was awakening in John C. Secor's restaurant Friday morning. Secor put him out and he managed to find his way across the river where Chief of Police Thomas Love picked him up.
It was apparent at once that the man was in a serious condition and Dr G. W. Webster was called. Dr. Webster states that the man had imbibed a quantity of wood alcohol. It affected his eye sight and left him in a very weakened condition.
This morning, however, Kring was able to appear in Judge A. H. Abbott's court and tell his story. In the meantime Duscharm was arrested on the charge of petit larceny. Kring claiming to  have lost about $18 Thursday night.
Duscharm denied all of Kring's allegations. He claimed that Kring had the liquor when he came to town. The case was held over for two weeks.
