- Obituary (Fort Plain Standard, NY, Thursday, June 2, 1932)
This morning's Gloversville Herald:
Albert C. Wagner, 49. of Nelliston, committed suicide in the Otto hotel in Utica yesterday by shooting himself through the heart with a small calibre revolver. Authorities gave out the statement that his act was caused by financial difficulties brought on by the depreciation of stock he held.
Coroner Dr. Burden A. Holden of Utica, who was called upon the case, declared it was suicide. He said Wagner had been dead for eight hours before the body was discovered by one of the employes of the hotel. The employe, unable to get into the room to clean it, removed on of the panels in the door. As he stepped into the room he discovered Wagner's body stretched across the bed with blood congealed upon his breast.
Mr. Wagner was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clark Wagner of Nelliston. He had been employed for a number of years in the tax department of the New York Central railroad. He started in the employ of the company when the tax office of the Mohawk valley division was located in Fort Plain under F. F. Wendell. He continued his work when the office was moved to Utica under supervision of Smith Van Deusen of Fort Plain.
Mr. Wagner visited his parents over Memorial day and appeared in his usual health. Authorities at the hotel said he appeared there about 1 o'clock yesterday morning and engaged a room. He left the hotel and was gone until about 3 o'clock, when he returned and went immediately to his room.
Coroner Holden found two notes Mr. Wagner left before he shot himself. One note directed authorities to notify his parents in Nelliston. The coroner did not disclose the contents of the other note. It was learned, however, that it inferred the act was caused by Wagner's financial reverses. He had a large block of New York Central railroad stock and suffered a large loss.
Besides his parents, the survivors are one sister, Mrs. Charlotte Diefendorf of fort Plain; two brothers, Henry J. Wagner of Fort Plain and George Wagner of Boonville.
Albert C. Wagner was a member of the Fort Plain Masonic Lodge.
The entire community sympathizes with the family of Mr. Wagner over this sad occurrence.
The funeral services will be held at the home of W. Clark Wagner, Nelliston, at 3 p . m. on Saturday, Rev. E. R. Kruizenga, pastor of the Reformed church officiation. Burial in the Wagner family plot in the Fort Plain cemetery.

Hon. George Yost, of this village, has recently decided a case which is both novel and interesting. John W. Nellis of Oppenheim, died in 1834, having willed to John N. Kring a farm in that town, upon condition that after the death of testator's wife, Henry Kring, the father should receive his support therefrom. John N. Kring subsequently became involved and the farm was sold under mortgage foreclosure in 1875, Abner Powell becoming the purchaser.— Henry Kring, who is the plaintiff in this case claims that since the purchase by Powell he has not received suitable support.— The suit was commenced in Sept.'77 and the case was referred to Judge Yost, who submited his decision a December, giving to the plaintiff $518.73 and twenty-six dollars per month beginning with the date of the decision during the life of the plaintiff. Since the decision was rendered the plaintiff has died, and proceedings are now under way for the appointment of an administrator, in order that the judgement may be perfected.
