 - Obituary (The Morning Herald, Gloversville and Johnstown, NY, Thursday, October 29, 1931)
  Benjamin G. Shults, 85, died Monday night at 8:35 at the home of his daughter-in-law, Mrs. David N Shults, 214 Marlon street, Herkimer, after a brief illness.
  He was born in Ephratah, April 20, 1846, and was a blacksmith by trade. His parents were the late John and Jane Shults. He had lived in Herkimer seven years, coming from Fort Plain.
  Surviving are four brothers, John of Lockport; Crawford, of Fort Plain; William, of Canajoharie, and Edwin, of Schenectady; two sisters, Rachael and Celesta, of Gloversvllle; several grandchildren, H. B. Shults, of Syracuse; Mrs. Stanley Wilcox, of Ilion; Leland, Harold Shults and Kenneth Ball, all of Herkimer, and Catherine Shults, of Fort Plain.
  The funeral will be held this afternoon at 1, In the Nellis chapel at Fort Plain, the remains being taken there. Interment will be in Fort Plain.

 - Funeral Announcement (The Morning Herald, Gloversville and Johnstown, NY, Saturday, March 30, 1929)
  The funeral of Mrs. Jennie Winsman, wife of William Winsman, who passed away Wednesday, at her home, 830 Glebe street, was held yesterday afternoon at 2:30 from the Catherine Nellis Memorial chapel. Fort Plain. Rev. C. R. Hamilton, of Fort Plain, officiated. There were many beautiful floral pieces from the family and friends. Relatives acted as bearers. Interment was made in the Fort Plain cemetery.

 - Obituary (The Otsego Farmer, Cooperstown, NY, Friday, August 2, 1901)
  Menzo Hoke died at his home on the Lake road just above Five-Mile Point Sunday, after an illness of a month's duration. Death was caused by paralysis. Mr. Hoke was 46 years of age, and was born on the farm where he died. Besides his wife, he leaves one son, Earl, and one sister, Mrs. Dell Mallory. The funeral was held Wednesday noon, and the Rev. C. E. Nichols, of the Cooperstown Baptist church officiated.

 - His death, prior to the settlment of his father's will, caused considerable consternation and legal battle over the execution of his father's will.

 - Obituary (The Richfield Mercury, Thursday, December 26, 1918)
  Earl Nellis Hoke died at his home, Hickory Grove Inn, last Wednesday, which caused sorrow and sadness in this village. He was 37 years of age, was born and always resided in the home where he passed away. He was in this village the week before and was taken ill with influenza, which developed into pneumonia. He was of a cheerful, jolly nature, with a pleasant and kindly disposition and had a wide circle of friends. His early death is deeply regretted and deep sympathy is expressed for his wife, who is ill at their home, and his other relatives. He was a member of Evergreen Lodge, F.&A.M., and St. Mary's Church of this village. The funeral was held at his late home Saturday at 1:30 p. m., and was private. Evergreen Lodge, F.&A.M., attended in a body and had charge of the burial service. The burial was in the family plot in Lakewood Cemetery.

   Mrs. Florence R. Dewing. 11 Hollywood Dr., Whitesboro, Thursday from the John S. Friedel Funeral Home Court at York St., with the Rev. Arnold F. Keller. DD, Pastor emeritus of the Church of the Redeemer, officiating. Burial was in the family plot in Fairview Cemetery, Amsterdam

 - Obituary (Evening Recorder, Amsterdam, NY, Tuesday, August 23, 1960)
  Mrs. Florence Rachel Dewing, 78, a native of Amsterdam, died yesterday at the home of her son, William E. Dewing, in Whitesboro, with whom she resided. She had been in ill health for several months.
   Born in Amsterdam Feb. 25, 1887, daughter of Edwin J. and Dora Etta Meyers Shults, she attended Amsterdam schools and after graduation from Amsterdam High School was employed as a proofreader for the Amsterdam Evening Recorder.
   She also operated the Hickory Grove Inn in Cooperstown.
   She lived for a brief period in Schenectady but for 25 years had resided in Ilion where her husband was employed by Remington Rand.
   Her husband, George T. Dewing, whom she married in Amsterdam in October of 1920, died in June of 1956.
   Mrs. Dewing was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer of Utica, the Historical Club of Ilion and was a past regent of the Mohawk Chapter of the DAR in Ilion.
   Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. William F, Horstman and Mrs. P. N. Sturtevant, both of Terra Haute, Ind.; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
   Services will be conducted Thursday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of the John S. Friedel funeral home in Utica by A. S. Keller. D.D.. pastor emeritus of the Church of the Redeemer.  
   The body will be cremated and the ashes will be buried in Fair View Cemetery, Amsterdam.
   Visiting hours at the funeral home are Tuesday and Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

  Springfield Center ... The Freeman's Journal announces the engagement of Earl Nellls Hoke to Miss Florence R. Shults. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin J. Shults of Amsterdam. The wedding is to take place this fall. Mr. Hoke is well known in this village. He is proprietor of the Hickory Grove Inn, which was formerly the Four Mile Point hotel, and a very popular summer hotel.
  - Wedding Announcement (The Otsego Farmer, Cooperstown, NY, November 3, 1916)
  In Trinity Reformed church, Amsterdam, where for several years she has served as pianist, Miss Florence Rachel Shults, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin J. Shults, of Amsterdam, was united in marriage, at 8 o'clock, Friday evening of last week to Earl Nellis Hoke of Cooperstown. The church was decorated with hydrangeas, running pine and autumn leaves, and in the center aisle were arches of autumn leaves and pine. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. J. Harvey Murphy.
   The bride was attired in a gown of ivory satin charmeuse, with chautilly lace and pearl trimmings, and wore a tulle veil caught up with a spray of orange blossoms. She carried a shower bouquet of white rosebuds.
   Miss Lila A. Shults, the bride's sister, was maid of honor. She wore sunshine taffeta, an overdress of satin stripe marquisette with amethyst velvet girdle and opalescent trimming, and hat of amethyst velvet and gold lace, with chin strap. Her bouquet was of golden autumn chrysanthemums, tied with sunshine chiffon and amethyst velvet loops.
   Miss Madeline B. Shults, another sister, was bridesmaid, and was gowned in orchid taffeta, trimmed with silver lace and Georgette crepe, and the hat of black velvet with silver trimming. She carried a bouquet of Mrs. Ward roses, tied with orchid ribbon. Robert Oliver Smith of Springfield Center was best man and the ushers were Louis W. Rowe, Durward S. De Groff, Percy W. Gould of Syracuse and Arthur Borck of Fort Plain.
   A reception and supper followed at the Shults home. After a Western trip Mr. Hoke and his bride will live near Cooperstown, Where Mr. Hoke is proprietor of Hickory Grove Inn. — Albany Evening Journal.
