ATTEMPTED SUICIDE.
Our Special Correspondence.
FRANKFORT, July 17.—Mrs Charles F. Carner, a lady about 26 years of age, residing on Litchfield street, made an unsuccessful attempt at suicide last night. For six weeks Mrs. Carner has been in poor health, at times showing unmistakable indications that her mind was affected, but no alarm was felt that she would attempt self-destruction. About 8 o'clock last evening she left her house remarking that she was going to the well near by for water, and not returning in a seasonable time, knowing the feeble state of her health, the family became alarmed and a search thro'out the village was immediately instituted, over one hundred of our citizens taking part. At 1 A. M. to day she was discovered lying beside a fence in an orchard, about half a mile from her residence with her throat cut. the windpipe being about half severed and she very weak from the loss of blood. She was conveyed home and the wound dressed. She will recover A common case knife was employed. She expresses great regret for the attempt at self-destruction. Mrs. Carner has always resided here and is of a respectable family. Her husband is in the employ of Gates Bro's, and this rash act can only be accounted for upon the theory that she was laboring from temporary insanity at the time.

Frankfort, Aug. 21 — An action against the state is about to be begun by Warner Bargy of Frankfort, and attached to it is an interesting story. Warner Bargy Is the son of the late Peter Bargy, who, about 60 years ago, took a contract to do certain work for the state on the Chenango canal. It is claimed on the part of the heirs of the contractor that at the time the work was let an agreement was entered into with the state by the terms of which It was understood that in case quicksand was found an additional amount should be paid for the work. Quicksand soon obstructed the progress, but the work was continued to completion. In 1841 an act was passed by the State Legislature allowing Mr. Bargy extra pay for the work done to the amount of $12,000. Nothing has since been done in relation to the payment of the award. Warner Bargy is now the only surlving heir of Peter Bargy, and he will make an effort to secure the money. The award and interest to the present time amount to over $50,000.- Obituary (Utica Daily Press, NY, Wednesday, February 10, 1904)
