 - Newspaper Article, The Morning Herald, Gloversville and Johnstown, NY, Monday, July 10, 1922)
Tha body of Oliver Morgan Getman of Fonda, sixty-two years old, a farm  hand, missing since July 4, was found Saturday night about 8:80 o'clock, in the Mohawk river, near the Fultonviile bridge by Seward Putman of Fonda, Coroner Otis Z. Bouton of Fultonville who took charge of the case, was unable to render a verdict as to the exact cause of the death as it was impossible to perform an autopsy on account of the decomposed state of the body. The burial permit reads; "Found drowned, verdict open."
While an air of mystery surrounds the case, the authorities have no hesitancy in saying that there is an utter absence of any semblance of foul play, as no marks of violence were found on the body, although an investigation is being carried on. The exact whereabouts of Getman before he met his death is not known and no one in authority was able to shed any light on this phase of the case.
The suicide theory was scouted in some quarters as was the talk of possible foul play. Many are inclined to the opinion that Getman met death by falling from the barge canal dock, which is a short distance west of the bridge as a lane leads from the road to this dock, This theory was given some credence by the villagers as one resident reported seeing an object that resembled a body Friday afternoon near the dock. From the dock, it is believed that body found its way down stream to where it was found.
Mr. Putman was crossing the bridge when he noticed an object in the river. Satisfying his curiosity he procured a boat and rowed to the scene. Upon finding the body, Putman towed it to the bank and notified Dr. Bouton. Identification by the.features was impossible. A casual examination was made by the coroner and upon finding a bottle of cough medicine in the pockets of the man he declared it to be Getman as he recalled issuing the medicine to him in the forenoon of July 4. Getman's sister, Mrs. John Foskett of Fultonville, was notified and identified the man as her brother by finding his trunk key tied about his neck. This key was always carried by the man, she said.
The body was turned over to Undertaker Charles M, Welch of the village and taken to his funeral parlors. The funeral will be held in Fort Plain this morning at 12 o'clock standard time. Burial at that place.
Getman, who was employed on the farm ot his nephew, Raymond Kincaade near Fondsi, on the Johnstown road, was unmarried and is survived by four sisters, Mrs, Alberton Kincaid of Fonda, Mrs, John Foskett of Fultonville, Mrs, J, German and Miss Ida Getman, both of Fort Plain; two brothers, Harvey Getman of Minden and Barney Getman of Fonda, and  one nephew, Raymond Kincaid.

Fort Plain, April 28.—Edward German, aged about 55 years, committed suicide at his home in Nelliston on Saturday night by shooting himself in the head with a .32 caliber revolver. Mrs. German had arranged her supper and her husband said he was going upstairs for a moment. A few seconds after he left, Mrs German heard the report of a revolver and ran upstairs where she found her husband lying on the floor with bullet wound in his head. Mrs. German culled for assistance and neighbors quickly responded. Dr. John C. Jackson was called and found the man dead, after which Coroner Charles P. Wagner of St. Johnsvllle was notified.
Mr. German had lived in Nelliston nearly all his life and had been employed by the New York Central and West Shore rairoads as telegraph operator and station agent.  - Death Announcement (Mohawk Valley Register, Fort Plain, NY, July 25, 1879)
The following lines were composed by Mrs, John Neach, in memory of her deceased sister, Mrs. Rufus Getman, who died at Philadelphia, on the 15th of July, and Whose remains were interred in tbe Fort Plain cemetery.

DEAR SISTER
Farewell. dear sister, best beloved
Of all my kindred dears,
But when I say the word farewell
I cannot surpress the tears.
It is a glittering word to say
To those who are above,
But I've a hope that I some day
Shall meet with thee above.
And as the lonely grave I view,
Where the grass is over grown,
The many tears I shed for you
Are known to God alone.
      UNO HOO.

- Newspaper Article (Johnstown Daily Republican, Thursday, March 2, 1899)
  This Morning's Fortunate Runaway.
A runaway, which for a time promised to be an exciting one, started this morning at Styer & Behlen's mill and terminated opposite the Republican office on Green street. The team was a handsome pair of bay draught horses driven by the employes of Caleb Clifford of Gloversville, and were standing at the mill waiting for a, load of scraps when they took it into their heads to start for home. In order to get away it was necessary for the team to back out, and in doing so the horses and wagon backed right over a single rig standing near, causing more or less damage to that -----.
Once free the runaways started up West State street at a lively clip. They slowed up somewhat in ascending the Green street hill and were brought to a standstill by the timely act of Oscar Lasher, although not without, considerable difficulty. No particular damage was done and the somewhat excited driver again took charge of the team, congratulating himself upon the fortunate ending of the episode. Had the team gotten a little more of a start they would have made a lively run.

Mr. Vrooman, 65, well known proprietor of the Vrooman hotel and picnic grove at West Caroga lake, passed away at his home yesterday morning about 9 after being seriously ill for the past five days. He was widely known through this section of the state. About 30 years ego he moved to Caroga lake when he opened the hotel.
He was a genial host, a man of real personality and great friendliness and attracted friends by the hundreds. His hotel was always a popular place, and continued so until just a few years ago when he retired from the role of host to visitors and turned his lands into a picnic and pleasure grove. This, like the hotel, proved a real success and was widely patronised.
Mr. Vrooman was known especially for his activities in horse racing circles. He loved horses and all his life he had taken pride in his stables. At the present time he owned a rather famous harness racer, "Abbie Hale," besides three good horses which he had in his stables at the lake and two now in training in Albany. In addition to this, he had several saddle horses. It was perhaps his love for horses which led to bis death, for he caught cold caring for the animals in his barn last week .
While he sent his horses to various race meets, he also showed his interest in the sport in another way and for years had been an official at races held at the Fulton-Hamilton county fair in this city. He also served in other offices as an official. His love for racing also led him to become interested in the county fair and he was elected a director of the Fulton-Hamilton County Fair association only a few weeks ago.
In addition to the directorship in the Fair association, he was a charter member of the Johnstown Lodge of Eagles, a member of the Gloversville Lodge of Elks, and a director of the Nick Stoner club of Caroga Lake.
The survivors are his wife, Cora Lasher Vrooman; one brother, Albert H. Vrooman of Fonda, and a sister, Mrs. Charles Beakle, also of Fonda, also several nieces and nephews.

FORT PLAIN, Nov. 17— George B. Watermen, aged about 80 years. was discovered frozen to death about 9 o'clock Monday morning near the rear door of tive Fort Plain Motor company garage in River street. When found Mr. Waterman was lying face down in the snow and hia face was badly swollen, and it was some little time before it was learned who the man was. The body was removed to the undertaking room of B. Gray & Sons, this village, where the identification was made.
Waterman was about the streets of this Village as usual Sunday evening. It is probable that he was aseized with some kind of a spell and fell to the snow covered ground and being unable to again arise, frozen to death. The past week he had been working for Andrew Putman In his cider mill in the village and he had a room at the West Shore hotel, which is located only a short distance away from where the body was found. The deceased was a life-long resident of Fort Plain. A number of years ago a brother, Ira Waterman, met death by a fall down a flight of stairs, the body being found in the morning.
He has a sister. Mrs. Fannie Snell of Fort Plain and a brother, Eugene Waterman, who resides in Johnstown.
Coroner Wagner was notified of the death of Waterman and he ordered the body removed to the undertaking rooms.
