The most of his life was spent in the town of his nativity. Fifty-three years ago he was united in marriage in Orleans to Mary Getman. Four children were born to this union, one dying in infancy. Mr. Standish was for a long time owner of the Standish sawmill, living there about 22 years, working at this trade. 15 years ago he left the mill property, purchased a home in ***** he, retiring from active work, his health being impaired. Five years ago in April his son George passed away. During the past few months has been failing, having suffered a severe attack of pneumonia from the effects of which he never fully recovered. For two months past had been confined to his room and bed, a great sufferer. Was cared for by members of his family and a nephew, Mr. Wood. He was always spoken of with respect. His familiar face on our streets will be missed, but his life's work is ended and he is at rest. There were many neighbors at his late home on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock to pay the last tribute of respect The funeral was in charge of undertaker Scott, the sermon being preached by Rev. S. S. Davis who took, for his text this passage of Scripture, "There is but a step between me and death." The bearers were Messrs. Fred and Nelson Walts, James Cooper and William Washburn, the first three being nephews. Besides his widow be leaves his sons, Wilbur and Daniel and families, six grand-children and one great-grandson. Interment in Rural cemetery, Adams.

SAD CASE OF SUICIDE.-A sad case of suicide by strychnine occurred a few days since at Gloversville, Fulton, county. The victim was named Ella Getman a young girl, whose parents reside at Forestport, Oneida county. She had gone to Gloversille from her home to work in a glove factory, and was living with her uncle, James Best. She was a vivacious and somewhat attractive peraon, but for some time her naturally high spirits had been depressed by continued pain in the back of the head, supposed to have been the result of an abscess, from which she suffered two years ago. On this account, her parents had urged her to come home for a short visit, and at the time of her death there was awaiting her in the post-office, a registered letter transmitting to her money for her ticket home. She had in addition, had some trouble with Fred Van Natter, a young man to whom she was attached. He had objected to a girl acquaintance she had, and asked her to change her boarding bouse to be separated from her. This she had agreed to do, but a few days before her death, she met Van Natter on the street while she was with his girl, and he showed his disapproval by coldness and neglect, which distracted the poor girl.
