The death of Mr. Menzo Hoke, on Friday last, removes from active life one of Otsego's oldest, native, inhabitants; He was in the 79th year of his age. During the week previous to his death he sustained two paralytic shocks, which greatly enfeebled his remaining days. Mr. Hoke was born on an adjoining farm to the one of his late occupancy, which comprised a portion of his extensive landed estate, finely situated; seven miles north of Cooperstown, on the western shore of Otsego Lake, and containing fully 400 acres of excellent land. He was a prosperous farmer, and enjoyed the confidence and regard of his neighbors; in politics he was an ardent Republican, but always led a quiet farm life. Mr. Hoke leaves a wife, one son and one daughter: Menzo Hoke, Jr., and Mrs. Adelbert Mallory; also two brothers, Philip and Isaac, residing in Pierstown, and three sisters: Mrs. Elizabeth Brockway of Cooperstown, Mrs; Matilda House of Starkville, and Mrs. Eva Thayer of Pierstown the latter 83 years of age. Mr. Hoke's funeral services were observed on Monday last, the Rev. C. E. Nichols, of the Baptist church, of Cooperstown, officiating. Interment at Lakewood cemetery.
