  After a lingering illness, Cary Getman, 89, of 13 North st., East Syracuse, retired proprietor of a livery and trucking business he conducted for many years in that village, died last night at his home. A native of Jefferson County, he had lived in East Syracuse more than a half century.
  Surviving are a son, Everette W. Getman; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Getman, who retired 12 years ago, will be conducted privately at his home at 2 p. m. Monday by Rev. Joseph Sayres. pastor of East Syracuse Presbyterian Church. Burial will take place at Fayetteville, where Delaney & Hodge, funeral directors, will take the body.

  East Syracuse, July 9.—Mrs. Elisabeth Getman, aged 61, wife of Cary Getman died yesterday afternoon at North street, after an illness of several months , dating back to Thanksgiving day. For several weeks Mrs. Getman was confined to her bed, and since Monday afternoon until the time of her death she was unconscious.
  Funeral services will be held from the home of her son, Everett , Getman, No. 124 West Manlius street, Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. She is survived by her husband, one son, Everrett W. Getman of this place: one brother, William Dougherty of Syracuse, and three sisters , Mrs, Anna Hughes. Mrs. William Montgomery and Miss Mary Dougherty, all of Syracuse.
  Mrs. Getman had spent about forty years of her life in this village, being one of the  oldest and best known residents of East Syracuse. Mrs. Getman came to America when she was eight years old, leaving her native land, Ireland, in 1862. When 21 years old she married Cary Getman and in 1880 moved into the house where she died
yeaterday, having made her home in the same house for twenty - five years.

 - Obituary (Syracuse Journal, NY, Thursday, December 6, 1923)
  Daniel G. Getman, 70, pioneer East Syracuse groceryman, died at 7 Thursday morning at the Hospital of the Good Shepherd as the result of a bullet wound in the head, self inflicted Wednesday afternoon. Despondency resulting from years of ill health is held responsible for his act.
  Members of the family were stunned by the suddeness of the blow, especially Mrs. Getman, who has been an invalid for years. The shot, which rang through the little store and house at 126 E. Second av., brought them to the kitchen where they found Mr. Getman lying on the floor, wllh a gunshot in his temple and a smoking revolver nearby.
  Medical attention was immediately summoned but no hope was held out for his recovery. In a last effort to save his life he was removed to the hospital here Wednesday.
   Besides his widow, Mr, Getman is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Lulu Hermon, and two sons-in-law, Fred and Will Miller.
  The body was remaned to the county morgue wnere an autopsy will be performed.

  Mrs. Catherine Getman, 63, widow of Daniel Getman, died Monday afternoon at her late home, 126 Second st.. East Syracuse. She is survived by two sons by a previous marriage, William J. and Frederick Miller; a daughter, Mrs. A. Lee Herman, all of East Syracuse; a brother, William Tobin, of Davenport, la.; a sister, Mrs. Mary K. Mazin, and four grandchildren, Mrs. Ethel Jarvis and Catherine, William, and Kenneth Herman. Funeral services will take place at 9 a. m., Thursday, from the late residence, followed a half-hour later by church services in St. Matthew's Church. Interment will be in Fayetteville.

Ellen Celestia Smith

  At Aberdeen, South Dakota, on Jan. 15, ocenrred the death of Mrs. George H. Getman. Her maiden name was Ellen C. Smith, and she was a daughter of Samuel Smith of Lee. She was born in Cheshire, Mass., in Oct, 1841, and, with her father's family, removed to Lee in 1849. She was united in marriage with George H. Getman Dec. 8, 1801, and soon after they took up their residence at Camillus, N.Y. In 1865 they removed to East Syracuse where they lived till 1885 and then removed to Owosso, Mich. In 1888, they removed to South Dakota. Mrs. Getman is survived by her husband and one daughter, Mrs. William B. Flickinger of Aberdeen, South Dakota, and one son, G. Mason Getman of Owosso, Mich., also by three sisters, Mrs. A. S. Stoddard of Lowville, N. Y., and Mary J. Smith and Lydia S. Smith of Rome.

  The funeral of Mrs. Catherine Becker 74, who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles C. Roseboom, Carthage, Wednesday night, was held at Roseboom's funeral home at 2:30 Saturday afternoon. The body was placed in Fairview cemetery vault, with burial in the spring at Point Peninsula.
  She is survived by her husband, Alonzo; one son, John, Point Peninsula, and two sisters, Mrs. C. C. Roseboom, Carthage, and Mrs. Frank Dashley, Syracuse.
  She was born July 27, 1855, at Point Peninsula, daughter of Frederick and Pauline Getman. She was educated at Ives Seminary, Antwerp; Union Academy, Belleville, and Cazenovia Seminary. She was married, January 22, 1880.

  Dolgeville - The seventh annual reunion of the descendants of Adam Smith was conducted at the old James Loucks home in Manheim, now owned by W. B. Smith.
  There were 61 present from Mohawk, Canastota, Sherrill, Little Falls, St. Johnsville, Herkimer, Richfield Springs, Jordanville, Dolgeville and Fairview, Mich. The oldest was Mrs. Alma Helmer, 87, of this village, and the youngest was Eugene Aney of Jordanville.

  ST. JOHNSVILLE. April 20. — George I. Smith, 55, owner and editor of the Dolgeville Republican and native of St. Johnsville, died Friday night at his home in Dolgeville after a brief Illness. Mr. Smith was stricken during the day Friday, the end coming soon thereafter.
  He was born in St. Johnsville, a son of Joseph and Louise Dockerty Smith. Educated in the schools of St. Johnsville, he embarked on a newspaper career in 1890 with the late A. C. Crouse and the late Edward knight. In 1912 he became associated with Lou D. MacWethy on the St. Johnsville Enterprise, continuing until 1914, when he purchased the Dolgeville Republican.
  About ten years ago he married Mabel Helmer in Dolgeville and she survives, together with one brother, William Smith, Rockford, Ill., and one sister, Mrs. Ralph Allen, Rochester.
