That morning a friend, Miss Ollie Kneeskern, visited Mrs. Bartle, who gave assurance that she was felling no worse than usual but said she would like some oranges. Miss Kneeskern went to the store to make the purchase and when she returned, found that Mrs. Bartle had expired in the meantime.
Deceased was born in St. Johnsville on June 12, 1863, a daughter of Alvin and Caroline Timmerman Saltsman. She was married to LeRoy Bartle, who died many years ago. For many years she had resided alone.
Mrs. Bartie was a member of St. John's Reformed Church, its Ladies' Aid Society and Missionary Society.
She was a cultured, highly esteemed lady, with a deep interest in the finer things of life. She was devoted to her church, to which she had given generously of her time and means. Only survivors are cousins.
The funeral was held Monday afternoon from her home on West Main Street. The bearers were Frank Christiance, Guy Countryman, Howard Snell, Cecil Hillabrandt, Harold Fox and Seth Baker. Rev. David Davy was the officiating clergymen. The funeral was largely attended, and there were many flowers. Burial was made in St. Johnsville cemetery.

 - Isaac the progenitor of this family was born some place in the state of Vermont and emigrated to this community in the 1840's at the time the Miami Erie canal was being dug. He worked on the canal, afterward settling permanently at Spencerville, Allen County, Ohio, at that time know as Arcadia, where he was one of the community's businessmen and served as Mayor at one time. On his way from Vermont to Ohio, he met Eliza Ann Saltsman at Detroit, Michigan where they married and emigrated to the Spencerville community together. Eliza Saltsman was near the present city of Utica, New York and came from and old Dutch stock, and always claimed that she left and estate there which she had inherited from descendants of the Old Patron Settlers along the Mohawk River. Isaac was called "Yank" for a nickname because he came from Vermont. He was born May 1, 1811 and died October 29, 1870. He is said to have had some Brothers, one of whom visited here several years ago, at which time he was a policeman at Chicago, Illinois.
