Mr. Carl F. Douglas, 65, passed away after a short illness on Tuesday, November 7, 2006 at his home in Fort Plain, New York. He was born November 18, 1940 in Fort Plain, New York, the son of Clayton and Dorothy (Rockefeller) Douglas. He married Marion Brownell on December 7, 1963 in Fort Plain, NY. Mr. Douglas was a graduate of Fort Plain High School, class of 1958 and a lifelong resident of the area. He worked for the New York State Canal Authority for 27 years until his retirement. He was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife Marion Brownell Douglas; three sons Dennis Douglas and family of San Antonio, TX, Carl Douglas and family of Lawton, OK, Charles Douglas of San Antonio, TX; three daughters Wendy Hess and family of Maryland, Sarah Christman and family of Canajoharie, Melissa Douglas and family of Fort Plain; a brother Roger Douglas of Fort Plain; a sister Virginia Herringshaw of Herkimer; 19 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son Brian Douglas, two sisters Veda Douglas, Deborah Root and his parents.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, November 12, at St. Johns Lutheran Church, Freysbush, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be made to the Mountain Valley Hospice, the American Cancer Society or St. Johns Lutheran Church, Freysbush, NY. Arrangements were entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley, NY.

Miss Marion Brownell, daughter of Mrs. Katherine Brownell, and Carl Frank Douglas, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Douglas, all of Fort Plain, were married Dec. 7, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Douglas, Fort Plain.
Rev. Clarence L. Schaertel, pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church, Freysbush, performed the ceremony at 9 p.m.
The bride wore a street length camel tan sheath dress and a corsage of white carnations.
Mrs. Roger Douglas, the bridegroom's sister-in-law, was matron of honor. She wore a black sheath and a corsage of white carnations. Roger Douglas was best man for his brother.
Both the bride and bridegroom attended Fort Plain Central school.
The bridegroom recently completed three years in the U.S. Army and is presently assisting on his father's farm, Fort Plain RD 3.
