She grew up on Levy Avenue and graduated from Lane High School in 1962. It was at Lane that she met her husband Frank Upman. She and Frank would go on to enjoy 54 years of marriage and during that time were the example of what a marriage should be.
Helen spent her entire career in the banking industry before taking an early retirement. After retirement she spent the first few years taking care of her mother who had Alzheimer’s and who eventually passed away at the age of 98. After her mother passed she herself began to exhibit signs of dementia and would eventually need full time care. Two years ago, her family made the decision to move her to Rosewood Village on Greenbrier Drive and it is here that she spent her last days before passing away.
Helen was a devoted wife and mother and her family will miss her dearly but know that she is now with the Lord. Helen is survived by her husband Frank Upman, her son Stephen along with his wife Meaghan and their son Eli.
A family and friends night was held at Hill & Wood Funeral Home, Charlottesville, VA.
