 - Obituary (Daily Press, Utica, NY, Tuesday, January 6, 1891)
ILION, Jan. 5. — Dr. D. N. Walker, of this village, was last seen alive Friday forenoon, and was found dead in his office in the Grimes & Pelton block, Sunday afternoon about 5:30 by Officer M. D. Bronnner and Wm. Kibymiller, who at the solicitation of Mr. Duffy, proprietor of the National Hotel, where the deceased took his meals, forced open his rooms and found the doctor all dressed, with fur overcoat, &c., lying on the floor, face downward, with his arms folded under his head, a few feet trom the door, and his cap and gloves laying in a chair close by.
Coroner Nellis, of Herkimer, was notified, and upon arrival, after viewing the body, adjourned the inquest until Tuesday morning at 9:30.
The deceased leaves two sons, Ned O. Walker, of Washington, and Volney Walker, of Chicago, with many families in our village, where he has practiced for the past 16 years, to mourn his sudden death. Dr. Walker has been President of the Herkimer County Medical Society and was highly honored for his medical skill. He was contemplating going on a visit, having packed his valise Friday night for that purpose, according to remarks made by Mr. Duffy, his landlord. The deceased
was a Master Mason in good standing, being affiliated with the lodge at Cherry Valley, N Y. from whence he hailed, and without doubt be will be buried with Masonic honors by members of the craft from their lodge room in this village Wednesday afternoon, unless his son, who is expected to arrive here from Chicago this morning, should otherwise decide. The deceased was a widower and slept in his oftice, taking his meals at the National Hotel. He must have been dead several hours. He has complained of heart difficulty to several within the past few years and without doubt his death resulted from natural causes.
