35303. Ralph Lyke

 - Death Announcement (Daily Sentinel, Rome, NY, Tuesday, June 27, 1944)
  Pvt. Ralph Lyke, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Drury, 103 N. Crescent St., Rome, was accidenally killed May 5 when struck by a truck during a movement of troops in the Italy battle area.
  The War Department telegram and letter describing the accident were received by his
wife, the former Barbara Adams, Dexter.
  A letter written by Brig. Gen. Robert H. Dunlop revealed that Pvt. Lyke died as a result of a skull fracture and multiple, injuries. His death occurred three days after his 19th birthday.
  Pvt. Lyke attended schools at Dexter. He was born May 2, 1925 at Ashland, Pa. Although he had never resided at Rome he had visited this city several times while on furlough. He was employed by the New York Air Brake Co. at Dexter before entering the service.
  He trained at Camp Wheeler, Ga. and Camp Meade, Md.
  Besides his parents and wife, he leaves a one-year old daughter, Bonnie Lou; two sisters, Mrs. Raymond Adams, Dexter, and Mrs. Laura Rote, Burgettstown, Pa.; three brothers, Arden Lyke of Pennsylvania and Grover and Donald Drury, Rome.

  Dexter— A reception Was held at the Pillar Point community hall in honor of the twenty-fifth wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Adams. Route 1, Dexter. Ninety people were in attendance.
  Mr. and Mrs. Adams were married April 11, 1943 at fhe family home on Guffins Bay by Rev. John Campbell, then pastor of the Dexter Presbyterian church. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Sherman Depauville, werer thelr attendants.
  Mrs. Adams is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Drury and was formerly from Binghamton. Mr. Adams is the son of Mrs. Florence Adams, Guffins Bay and the late Niles Adams.
  Mr. Adams owns and operates the Adams Electric Sales and Service at Guffins' Bay, Pillar
Point, he is a past master of Dexter Masonic lodge 1072 and is presently serving as worthy patron for the Order of the Eastern Star 225 in Chaumont. Mrs. Adams is worthy matron for
OES 225.
  Mr and Mrs. .Adams have one daughter, Cindy, a seventh grade student at General Brown Central school .

  M/Sgt. and Mrs. Grover L. Drury and their children, Lee, Stephen and Robert moved into their home in Chaumont in December. The home recently purchased was the former home of Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Hamilton.
  M/Sgt. Drury is a brother of Mrs. Raymond Adams of Guffins Bay and is presently in Arkansas for three months duty after which he will retire from the air force.

  LOVEELY, Richard, Age 61 of Horseheads, NY, april 23, 1995 following a lengthly illness. He was predeceased by his wife Joan a. Lovely on april 9, 1995. He is survived by a son, Robert Lovley of Elmira; three daughters, Mrs. Jerry (Charlene) Austin of Florida, Mrs. Frank (Kathy) Enochs, and Mrs. George (Lori) Dannelley both of Horseheads; ten grandchildren; a sister & brother of Gouverneur, NY. He was a Koren War Veteran and a former police officer in Gouverneur, NY. richard workd most of his life with P.C. Food Stores as district manager before retiring. Charles E Filsinger

  Charles E. Filsinger, 81, of Liverpool, died Friday at Oswego Hospital. An avid golfer, Chuck was a member of Greenview Golf Club and enjoyed woodworking. He was a life member and former chief of Belgium Cold Spring Fire Department. Charlie was a life member and past commander of the American Legion Post 113, Baldwinsville. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean War. He was predeceased by his wife, Pauline Hise Filsinger, in 2006; a brother, Robert, in 1996; and a grandson James Filsinger, who died in 1993. Surviving are his children, Carol (Alan) Scalzo of Baldwinsville, Joyce Filsinger of Tucson, AZ, and David (Melinda) Filsinger of Canastota; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, with services to follow at 7 p.m. at New Comer Funeral Home, 705 N. Main St., North Syracuse. Burial will be private in Woodlawn Cemetery. Marriage Notes for Wendell Charles Barber and Rebecca Kennedy

 - Wedding Announcement (Rome Saily Sentinal, NY, Monday, May 13, 1963)
  St. Patrick's Church, Williamstown, was the setting for the May 4 wedding of Miss Rebecca Anne Kennedy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas H. Kennedy, Twin Brook Farms, Westdale, and Wendell Charles Barber, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Barber, Williamstown.
  The double ring ceremony was performed by the pastor, the Rev. Schmitz, with music provided by organist, Onetamae Britton.
  Miss Madelyn Plumley, Camden, the bride's cousin was her honor attendant, and the bridegroom's sister-in-law, Mrs. Mary Barber, was bridesmaid.
  Ellsworth Barber, Orwell, was best man, and ushers were Ellwyn Barber, Orwell, and Wayne Barber, Williamstown. All are brothers of the bridegroom.
   Given in marriage by her father, the bride chose a floor length gown of silk organza over taffeta with bateau neckline, basque bodice and elbow length sleeves. A re-embroidered panel of Alencon lace extended from the front neckline to the hemline and the center back was accented with a flat bow above a deep-pleated chapel train. Her headpiece was a pillbox of silk organza holding a bouffant fingertip veil, and her colonial bouquet was of white and yellow roses.
  Carrying colonial bouquets of yellow roses the attendants wore ballerina length gowns with scooped necklines and belle skirts accented with beaded tucks. The maid of honor was in maize and the bridesmaid in aqua. Matching pillbox caps and face veils completed their ensembles.
  Following an afternoon reception at Pine Hill Inn, Taberg, the couple motored through Pennsylvania for their wedding trip and will reside at 62 Miner Ave., Camden.
  Mrs. Barber, employed at Griffiss AFB, graduated from Camden Central School in 1959 and received an associate of applied sciences degree from Auburn Community College in 1962. Her husband, employed by Bailey Farms, Inc., Williamstown, graduated from Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Central School in 1958, and served with the US Army for three years.
