   Verne E. Parker, 85, of Jordan, died Thursday in Community General Hospital. Born in Mycenae, Verne moved to Jordan in 1947. She was the widow of Floyd W. Parker who died in 1975. Verne was formerly employed at General Electric. She was a WWII veteran having served with Army Air Corps. Verne was a member of the Jordan American Legion Post 1127 and a past commander of the Jordan Post and the Onondaga County American Legion. She was also a member of the Auburn VFW Post 1975 Aux. She served on several veterans' advisory boards and she was a volunteer at the VA Hospital. For many years Verne was a faithful volunteer with the American Red Cross Blood Drives. She also volunteered as a driver for F.I.S.H. Verne was a member of the Jordan United Methodist Church. Surviving are two daughters, Aletha Lee and her husband, Jim Evans of Baldwinsville and Sandra and her husband, Jim Smolen of Syracuse; two grandchildren and one great-grandson. Services will be 7 p.m. Monday at the Bush Funeral Home, Elbridge. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery. Friends at invited to call 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, 120 E. Main St. (Rt. 5), Elbridge. Contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

  Miss Vernon Sobles of Baldwin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leon Sobles of Syracuse, became the bride of Corp. Floyd Parker of Fort Dix, N. J., son of Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Parker of Hartot, Saturday afternoon at the Calvary Protestant church in Baldwin Harbor. The Rev. LeRoy Moon, pastor, performed the ceremony. Mrs. Frank Ryan and Cornelius Cools of Baldwin attended the couple.
   The bride wore a blue afternoon dress with hat to match and corsage of sweet peas, while her attendant chose a black frock with matching accessories. A reception and dinner party for a few intimate friends followed at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ryan of Tulip avenue, Baldwin.
   Corporal Parker returned to his duties at Fort Dix after passing the week-end in New York with his bride.

  Dorcas "Dot" Allen, 84, longtime resident of Mattydale, passed away Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at the home of her daughter.
   Dot grew up in the Jordan area and resided in Mattydale since 1953. She was the daughter of the late Orval and Mabel I. (Smith) Sobles and was a graduate of North High. Dot worked at General Electric Company for several years and later worked as a waitress at PZO's Restaurant in Mattydale for more than five years. She was a past president of the Mattydale American Legion Post #1832 Ladies Auxiliary and the past president of the Onondaga County American Legion Auxiliary. Dot was also a member of the Freedom Foundation. She was an avid bowler who was on several leagues for a number of years primarily at Strike N Spare Lanes. Dot was a longtime communicant of St. Margaret's Church in Mattydale.
  She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, John "Jack" J. Allen, Sr. in 2006; a son, Raymond Allen in 1986; her daughter, Theresa Seaver in 2009; a daughter-in-law, Carol Allen in 2006, and by a son-in-law, Jerry St. Hilaire in 2007. Dot is survived by four daughters, Karen St. Hilaire of Mattydale, Regina (Michael) Traino of North Syracuse, Lisa (Peter) Anthony of Syracuse, and Melissa (Sean) Severance of Central Square; two sons, John Allen, Jr,. of St. Petersburg, FL and Kevin (Kim) Allen of Syracuse; her siblings, John Sobles of East Syracuse, Jerry Sobles of Syracuse, and Bertha Sobles of DeWitt; and by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Contributions in Dot's memory may be made to Hospice of CNY, 990 7th North St., Liverpool, NY 13088 or to the SPCA, 5878 E. Molloy Rd., Mattydale, NY 13211.
  Friends may call on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at Krueger Funeral Home, 2619 Brewerton Rd., Mattydale. Prayers will begin on Monday, 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Margaret's Church. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery, Syracuse.


John J Allen

     John "Jack" J. Allen Sr., 79, of Boulevard St., Mattydale, died Thursday at his home. A native of Syracuse, Jack resided in Mattydale since 1953. He retired in 1982 after 30 years as a truck driver for several area companies including Pratt & WhitneyMachine & Tool and Anheuser-Bush. He was an Army veteran of WWII and was a communicant of St. Margaret's RC Church in Mattydale. He was a past Commander of the American Legion Post #1832 in Mattydale and served as a member of its Color Guard. He was also a member of the 40/8 Voiture # 359.
  His son Raymond predeceased him in 1986. Surviving in addition to his wife of 56 years, the former Dorcas "Dot" Sobles, are five daughters, Karen (Jerry) St. Hilaire of Mattydale, Regina (Michael) Traino of N. Syracuse, Theresa Seaver of Mattydale, Lisa Allen of Syracuse, Melissa (Sean) Severance of Central Square; two sons, John (Carol) Jr. of St. Petersburg, FL, Kevin (Kim) Allen of Syracuse; two brothers, Lawrence Martin of Syracuse, Weldon Allen of Canastota; 26 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

  Dora A. Wells, 82, of 265 West First Street, Fulton, Mill Apartments, Fulton died Saturday, June 28, at Oswego Hospital, Oswego, following a brief illness.
  A native of Williamstown, she had resided in Fulton since 1931. She was employed as a machine operator from 1932 to 1948 at Sealright Company in Fulton. Mrs. Wells was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fulton. She was a member of the Fulton Senior Citizens, Senior Chorus, the Granby Hillbillie Band, and the Women Of The Moose, Chapter No. 1390 in Fulton,
  Surviving are: a daughter, Beverly W. Deacons Owens of Clearfield, Pa.; three brothers, Francis A. Tilton, Dale Tilton, and Newton Tilton all of Florida; five sisters, Sarah Tilton of Vermont, Leta Horning, Bertha Weaver, Neva Towne, and Joyce Horning all of Parish; two grandchildren; two great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
  Services were held Tuesday, July 1, at Foster Funeral Home, Fulton. Reverend Allen R. Wollenberg officiated. Burial was at Pleasant Lawn Cemetery, Parish.

   Her first husband, Raymond H. Horning, Sr., died in 1967, and her son, Raymond H. Horning, Jr. died in 1993.

Marriage Notes for Nancy Lee Weaver and William Gordon Alsworth

 - Wedding Announcement (Mexico Independant, NY, Thursday, December 3, 1959)
  Miss Nancy Lee Weaver, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Weaver of Parish became the bride of William Gordon Alsworth at 7:30 p. m. Saturday, November 28th in the First Presbyterian Church of Parish.  Rev. Josaph A. Clarke, pastor of the church officiated.
   The bride chose a gown of white velvet, styled with a bouffant skirt, fitted bodice, long fitted sleeves and a scalloped neckline. With it she wore a necklace of pearls. Her elbow length veil of illusion was held by a headband set with sequins. She carried a white Bible.  
   Mrs. Lucy Duell of Syracuse was matron of honor and the bride's sister Judy Weaver was bridesmaid. They were dressed alike in gowns of pink and blue nylon chiffon and both wore white carnations in corsage.
   Richard Rossman was his brother-in-law's best man while Frank Tilton ushered.
   A reception was held after the ceremony in the Grange Hall.
   Mr. and Mrs. Alsworth are both graduates of Altmar-Parish High School. They are also both employed at General Electric in Syracuse.
