John D. Murphy is a candidate for re-election to a fourth term as Seventh Ward alderman, running with endorsement of ward and city Democratic committees. He also has Conservative endorsement.
A native Roman and lifelong resident of the ward, Murphy is a 1950 graduate of St. Aloysius Academy and has been a Democratic committeeman since 1967.
He is president and general manager of Perretta Candy Co.
The candidate lives with his wife, the former Faith L. Warren, and their nine children, Theresa, John, Patrick, Catherine, Maryann, Karin, Daniel, Michael and James, at 919 Floyd Ave.
Murphy is a member of St. Peter's Church and its Parents Club, basketball coach at St. Peter's School, and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Moose Club, International Association of Approved Basketball Officials and a former member of the Mohawk Valley Umpires Association.He presently serves on the Council's committees on municipal laws, public safety and welfare, urban renewal liaison and Historic Rome Development liaison.
The candidate said, "I would like to be re-elected to use my years of experience in order to complete the projects that were started in the ward and in the city."

Clyde J. Manclow, born Dec. 28, 1913, in Fort Plain, passed away Feb. 29, 1988, in West Covina, Calif.
He moved to California and had resided in Azusa for 31 years. He was a plumber for 21 years for General Dynamics Corp.
Mr. Manclow was a veteran of World War II and a member of VFW Post 8070 in Azusa.
He is survived by his wife, Ethel, Azusa; a son, Wayne Manclow, Canyon Country; brother, Leo Manclow, Altaloma; and grandchildren.
Arrangements were by the Oakdale Memorial Park, Oakdale Mortuary, directors.

Lois R. Handy, 69, of St. Johnsville, died Monday, July 22, at her home. Mrs. Handy was born Sept. 2, 1921, in St. Johnsville, the daughter of William J. and Esther Weaver Leonard and was raised and educated in St. Johnsville. She was a lifelong area resident. In 1960, she was married to Carl Miner, who died in 1961. Then, in January of 1965, she was married to Ralph Handy. He died in April of 1991. Mrs. Handy was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and was past president of the Morris J. Edwards American Legion Post No. 168 Auxiliary, St. Johnsville. Survivors include a daughter … Funeral service was at Smith Woody Funeral Home, St. Johnsville, with the Rev. David Ellis officiating. Burial was in Dolgeville Cemetery.

DOLGEVILLE - Mrs. Lois R. Miner, of Dolgeville, became the bride of Ralph E. Handy of St. Johnsville at 2 p.m. Jan. 9 in the St. Johnsville Methodist Church, with the pastor, officiating at the double ring ceremony.
She is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Leonard of St. Johnsville, and the bridegroom the son of Mrs. Margaret Handy of St. Johnsville, and the late Arthur Handy.
The bride was given in marriage by her brother, George D. Leonard of Little Falls.
The couple were attended by
Mr. and Mrs Brunham Warner.
After a wedding dinner at the Canajoharie Hotel, the pair left on a trip to Massachusetts and Connecticut. They are residing at 14 Monroe St., St. Johnsville.
Both are graduates of St. Johnsville Central School. He is part owner of the Empire Diner in St. Johnsville.

Hester S. Leonard, age 83, of Gloversville, passed away on Wednesday, July 18, 2007, at Albany Medical Center, after a brief illness.
She was born on November 1, 1923, in St. Johnsville, the daughter of the late William J. Leonard and Hester S. Weaver.
Hester was of the Methodist faith.
She was employed at Translite Inc. of Connecticut until her retirement.
Survivors include two sons Kim B. and wife Donna Shumway of New Haven, Connecticut and Josh Thomas also of new Haven; one daughter Bonita E. Vitale of Shelton Connecticut; one brother George B. Leonard of St. Johnsville; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a great-great- grandson, nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by a son Craig M. Shumway who passed away on November 1, 2005.
Private funeral services were held at the convenience of the family.Interment was in St. Johnsville Cemetery.
Arrangements are by the A.G. Cole Funeral Home inc. 215 East Main Street, Johnstown.

The couple exchanged nuptial vows before the Rev. Pascal Iannotti, assistant pastor of St. Mary's Church, Little Falls, Oct. 20, at 11:30 a.m. The double ring ceremony was used.
The bride is a daughter of Mrs. Hester Shumway of Dolgeville and granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Leonard of this village. The bridegroom is a son of Mrs. Alice Congdon of Little Falls.
Miss Janice Mosher, Dolgeville, was maid of honor and Thomas Shepardson of Little Falls was best man.
A wedding reception was held at the home of the bridegroom's mother.
Mrs. Belair attended St Johnsville and Troy schools, and the bridegroom is a graduate of St. Mary's Academy in Little Falls. He also attended Washington State University and is employed by Sperry-Rand Corp, in Ilion.
Mr. and Mrs. Belair presented personal gifts to their attendants.
The bride was given a pre-nuptial shower by Miss Janice mosher and Mrs. Cleo Boutell.
Guests were present at the wedding from St. Johnsville, Dolgeville, Albany, Herkimer and Little Falls.
