  Gordon J. Carpenter Jr., age 78, of Ephratah, passed away on Monday November 5, 2007 at St. Mary?s Hospital, Amsterdam, after a brief illness.
   He was born June 4, 1929 in the Town of Palatine, son of the late Gordon J. Carpenter Sr. and Lela Dillenbeck Carpenter.
   Mr. Carpenter was a member of the North American Hunting Club and the National Riflemen Association.
   He was an avid hunter and enjoyed riding Harley Davidson Motorcycles.
   Gordon was employed as a heavy equipment operator for Delia Construction, Barret Construction and most recently for Penczek & Son Construction of Boonville.
   Survivors include his wife, Barbara Hill Carpenter, whom he married June 28, 1958; one son, Kenneth (Laurie) Carpenter of Ephratah; one daughter, Kathy (Denny) Sweeney of Ephratah; three sisters, Beverly (Owen) Christman of Palatine, Kathryn Gibbs of Endicott, and Simone Oakley of Indian Castle; two granddaughters, Melissa Carpenter and Lacy Carpenter of Ephratah; one grandson Kasey Carpenter of Ephratah; nieces, nephews and cousins.
   Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. from the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 East Main Street, Johnstown.
   Friends and family may call today from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
   Interment will be in Ephratah Rural Cemetery.
   Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Ephratah Reformed Church, c/o Marlene Arminio, 418 Saltsman Road, St. Johnsville, NY 13452.

  Miss Barbara Ann Hill, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Hill of Fort Plain, and Gordon Carpenter Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Carpenter also of Fort Plain, were married Saturday afternoon, June 28, at 2 o'clock in Ephratah Methodist Church.
  The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a gown of rose point lace and nylon tulle over satin of ballerina length and featured a Queen Anne collar trimmed with sequins, long sleeves, fitted bodice, full skirt of apron effect in rose point lace and nylon tulle.
  Mrs. Richard Fox, the bride's only attendant, wore a yellow ballerina dress and carried a bouquet of pink roses and carnations.
  Richard Fox was best man and the ushers were Donald Hill and Owen Christman.
  The bride's mother wore a light green dress with a corsage of white roses. The bridegroom's mother wore a pink print dress with white accessories and a corsage of white roses.
  A reception was held in the Ephratah firehouse at 4 o'clock with music by Wallace Mosher and his orchestra.
  For their wedding trip to Niagara Falls and Canada, the bride wore a two-piece suit of mint green. After July 7, the couple will be at home at Fort Plain,
RD 4.
  The bride attended Ephratah Consolidated school and Knox junior high school, Johnstown, and is employed by Denkert, Inc., Johnstown. The bridegroom attended Fort Plain central school and is now employed by the Globe Construction Co.

  FORT PLAIN - Miss Geraldine Carol Close, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Close, 4 Crouse street, this village, became the bride of Gordon W. Fisk, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Fisk Jr., Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, in the parsonage of the Baptist church. Rev C. R. Hamilton performed the ceremony using the double ring ceremony.
  The bride was attired in a navy blue suit with blue and white accessories. She wore a corsage of red roses and gardenias.
  Mrs. Charles Britt, St. Johnsville, aunt of the bride, was matron of honor. She wore a gray suit with white accessories. Her corsage was of pink and white roses, with baby's breath. Warren Casler, brother-in-law of the groom, was best man. They were presented personal gifts.
  Following the ceremony a wedding dinner was served at the Ideal Rest.
  Mr. and Mrs. Fisk left on a honeymoon trip to New York city, and upon their return will reside with the groom's parents, where the groom is engaged in farming.
  Both the bride and groom attended Fort Plain hish school. Mrs. Fisk is employed in the office of V. S. Bauder Sons.

  Miss Faith Ann Fisk, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon W. Fisk, Sprakers, became the bride of Paul Merrill Wood, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy M. Wood, Loudonville, at a church ceremony at 2 p.m. on Saturday in the Sprakers Reformed Church. The Rev. H. T. Hilbrands, pastor of the Fort Plain Reformed Church, performed the double ring ceremony.
  Vases of white gladioli and pink carnations decorated the altar and white satin bows marked the family pews. Mrs. Robert Mace, church organist, played traditional wedding music.
  The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a full length gown of candlelight Dulcette satin fashioned with an overlay of Alencon lace and pearl embroidery on the bodice, long puffed sleeves adorned with lace and pearls, A-line skirt with a deep band of Alencon lace accented with seed pearls and oat pearls and a detachable cathedral length train edged with lace. From her crown of pearls and rhinestones fell an elbow length bouffant veil. She carried a crescent bouquet of white calla lilies.
  Miss Linda L. Fisk, Sprakers, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. She wore a full length gown of petal pink georgette over taffeta adorned with re-embroidery of Venise lace flowers and velvet ribbon and a matching headpiece with a shoulder length bouffant veil. She carried a crescent bouquet of white carnations and variegated pink Elegance miniature carnations.
  Mrs. Dawn R. Neddo, Sprakers, sister of the bride, was matron of honor. She wore a full length gown of georgette over taffeta in candy pink and a matching headpiece with a shoulder length bouffant veil. She carried a crescent bouquet of pink carnations with pink Elegance miniature carnations.
  James N. Wood, Brockport, brother of the bridegroom, was best man. David Hebert, Schenectady, served as usher.
  The mother of the bride wore an all Venise lace dress over crepe in Romance blue, matching feather hat, white accessories and a white orchid corsage.
  The mother of the bridegroom wore a beige coat and dress ensemble with white accessories and a white orchid corsage.
  A reception for 100 was held immediately following the ceremony at the VFW Hall, Fort Plain.
  For a wedding trip to Florida, the bride chose a coat and dress ensemble with an orange top, white Empire waist and tan A-line skirt with white accessories. She wore a corsage of two green cymbidium orchids.
  A rehearsal party was given Friday night at the home of the bride's parents.
  The bride is' a graduate of Canajoharie High School and Albany Business College. She is employed as a secretary for the New York State Department of Mental Hygiene at Albany.
  The bridegroom is a graduate of Colonie Central High School and attended Siena College. He served three and one half years in the U.S. Air Force and is now employed at Modern Food Market, Albany.
  After April 25, Mr. and Mrs. Wood will reside at 250 Quail St., Albany.

  SPRAKERS - Miss Linda L. Fisk, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Fisk, Sprakers, became the bride of Timothy C. Conrad, son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis G. Conrad, Fort Plain at 12 noon Saturday in the Reformed Church of Fort Plain.
  Rev. William Faulkner, pastor of the Reformed Church of Sprakers, performed the double ring ceremony.
  Lighted candelabra and vases of white gladioli and lavender carnations decorated the altar. White satin bows marked the family pews and a white satin bridal runner carpeted the center aisle.
  Mrs. Thomas Bollen, organist, played the traditional wedding music. Mr. and Mrs. Owen Dievendorf, Fort Plain sang "I Love You Truly," "Theme from Love Story" and "At Dawning."
  The bride, escorted to the altar by her father and given in marriage by her mother and father, wore a full length gown of Dulcette satin in candlelight, previously worn by her sister, Mrs. Paul Wood.
  The entire bodice, fashioned with an overlay of Alencon lace and pearl embroidery, was designed with a scalloped neckline, fitted lines, long puffed sleeves adorned with lace and pearls. The A-line skirt with a deep band of Alencon lace, accented with seed pearls and oat pearls, had a full detachable cathedral length train entirely edged with matching lace.
  From her crown of pearls and rhinestones fell an elbow length bouffant veil. She carried a cascade bouquet of white carnations and stephanotis accented with green satin leaves and white satin ribbons.
  Mrs. Morgan C. Neddo, Sprakers, sister of the bride, was matron of honor. She wore a full length gown of sugarbeet velvet and orchid crepe over taffeta, designed with velvet bodice with stand-away ring collar, fitted lines and long tapered sleeves ending in circular cuffs.
  The controlled crepe A-line skirt was accented at the semi-empire waist with crepe and velvet bows and matching reembroidery. She wore a Camelot cap of sugarbeet velvet with velvet bridal loops and matching bouffant veil. She carried a crescent bouquet of lavender and burgundy carnations accented with white miniature carnations.
  Mrs. Paul M. Wood, Albany, sister of the bride and Miss Sandra Conrad, Fort Plain, sister of the bridegroom, were bridesmaids. They wore gowns and Camelot caps identical to the matron of honor they carried crescent bouquets of lavender and burgundy carnations.
  Miss Tammy Lynn Neddo, Sprakers, niece of the bride, was the miniature bride. Her gown, made by the bride's aunt, Mrs. William C. Fisk, Fort Plain, was white satin long puffed lace sleeves and the skirt of deep lace accented with seed pearls. She wore a rose crown with shoulder length bouffant veil and carried a miniature copy of the brides bouquet centered with a white bridal rose.
  The bride's mother wore an emerald green ensemble of chiffon over taffeta designed with a beaded stand-away collar, fitted lines and long puff sleeves ending in beaded cuffs. The matching coat was sleeveless and was of tucked chiffon over taffeta. She wore matching accessories and a corsage of white roses trimmed in white.
  The bridegroom's mother wore a gold Araselle double knit dress with fitted lines and long sleeves with matching accessories. She wore a corsage of white roses trimmed in white.
  Albert Castrucci, St. Johnsville was the best man. David Conrad, Randall, brother of the bridegroom and Gerald Hudson, Fort Plain served as ushers.
  A reception for 150 persons was held immediately after the ceremony at the Mohawk Valley VFW home in Fort Plain. Michael Cardamone and his orchestra provided music for dancing.
  Guests attended from Castleton, Fort Plain, Bridgeport, Fayetteville, Ingham Mills, Hamilton, Northville, St. Johnsville, Canajoharie, Palatine Bridge, Albany; Randall, Little Falls, Ames and Sprakers.
  For a wedding trip to an undisclosed destination, the bride wore a navy blue and white knit ensemble with matching accessories. She wore a corsage of white carnations.
  Attendants were presented gifts at a rehearsal party held Friday night at the Firemen's Home in Fort Plain given by the parents of the bridegroom, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Conrad.
  The bride was honored at pre-nuptial showers at the Sprakers Reformed Church hall, Mrs. Morgan Neddo, Mrs. Paul Wood, and Miss Sandra Conrad were the hostesses. She was also tendered a surprise luncheon by her co-workers.
  The bridegroom was honored at a stag party given by his attendants at the VFW home in Fort Plain.
  The bride is a 1968 graduate of Canajoharie high school and a 1969 graduate of the Hudson Valley Community College, Troy. She is employed as a secretary at Canajoharie.
  The bridegroom is a 1968 graduate of Fort Plain high school. He attended the Fulton-Montgomery Community College. He is a first aid instructor for the Mid-County Volunteer Ambulance Service, Inc. and is employed at Beech-Nut, Inc.

  Mr. Sterling H. Close, 55, of 17 Beck St., Fort Plain, died early Monday morning shortly after having been admitted at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital.
  Born April 7, 1930, in St. Johnsville, he was a son of Geraldine Gray Close and the late Wallace Close, and was a lifelong resident of the area.
   He attended Fort Plain schools and for 29 years was employed as a manager and clerk in Samuels Men's and Boy's Wear store in Fort Plain. He had also been a bus driver for Fort Plain Central School for about 14 years.
  He was an Army veteran and served in Okinawa as a medic after World War II.
  Mr. Close was a member of the Fort Plain Reformed Church and was a former member of the consistory of the church.
  He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ethel Van Nort Close, whom he married July 3 1953; his mother, Mrs. Geraldine Close of Little Falls; two sons. Sterling W. Close of Fort Plain and Bruce A. Close of Plattsburgh; two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Pamela) Homolva of Raleigh, N.C., and Mrs. Mark (Holley) Christiansen of Morrisonville; a sister, Mrs. Carol Fisk of Fort Plain; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
   Private funeral services and interment will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements were made by Swartz Funeral Home Inc., 34 Center St., Fort Plain.
  Memorials may be made to the Heart Fund, the Mid-County Ambulance Service or the Lung Association.

  The Salem Evangelical United Brethren Church, East Stone Arabia, was the scene of the marriage of Miss Carolyn Ann Van and Milton Everett Hinkle on Aug. 22. The bride is the daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Clarence C. Van of Fort Plain.
   The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Everett Hinkle, also of Fort Plain. Rev. Mr. Van, pastor of the church, officiated at the ceremony. Dr. John D. Rein, Webster, superintendent of the New York Conference of the Evangelical United Brethren Church, assisted in the rites.
  Traditional Wedding music was played by Miss Shirley Abel of Fort Plain. Mrs. Herman Fredericks Jr. was soloist.
  The bride was given in marriage riage by her father and wore a gown of imported rosepoint lace and tulle fashioned with sabrina neckline and fitted bodice trimmed in pearls and sequins. The full bouffant skirt terminated in a chapel train. Her bridal headpiece accented in pearls and sequins held a fingertip veil or silk illusion. She carried a lace fanshaped bouquet of white roses.
  Mrs. Robert Dettmer of St. Johnsville, sister of the bridegroom, was matron of honor in a dress of blue Schiffli embroidered polished cotton with matching headpiece. She carried a Colonial bouquet of pink carnations. Bridesmaids, Miss Marilyn Van, sister of the bride, and Miss Jean Ann Pavlus wore pink ensembles similar to the matron of honor's. They carried bouquet of blue carnations.
  Miss Sally Pavlus. flower girl, wore a blue dress with white accessories and carried a basket of white roses. The ring hearer was Kevin Sweet.
  Berneal Sweet, cousin of the bridegroom was best man. Ushers were Gerald Van, the bride's brother, and Robert Dettmer.
  Following the ceremony, a reception was held in the church parlors. After a wedding trip, Mr. and Mrs. Hinkle will reside in Fort Plain.
  The bride is a graduate of Fort Plain high school, in employed as a billing clerk at the Fonda Glove Manufacturing Co. Mr. Hinkle attende Fort Plain high school. He is employed by Vosburgh's Inc., Canajoharie.
