 - Obituary (The Observer-Dispatch, Utica, NY, Feburary 9, 2014 )
Jean-Marie Muchmore (Rizzo), age 77, of Cranberry Township, PA, originally from Utica, NY, and residing 50 years in Schenectady, NY, passed away on February 4, 2014. Following a lengthy illness, she passed away at home surrounded by much of her loving and devoted family. She was a loving mother of daughters, Susan Muchmore (Freedman) and husband, Marc Freedman, and Kathleen Muchmore (Toro) and husband, Reinaldo Toro; proud grandmother of Matthew Toro and wife, Jessica Steigerwald Toro, Michael, Joel and Liza Toro; sister of Gregory Rizzo and the late Michael Rizzo. She is also survived by many loving family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Muchmore; parents, Michael Rizzo and Arvella Bloodough; and Wicker, her beloved dog.
A memorial service will be held in the Spring in Utica, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that gifts be made in loving memory of Jean-Marie Muchmore to the Animal Protective Foundation, 53 Maple Ave., Scotia, NY 12302-4613, Tel: 518-374-3944, www.animalprotective.org.
Jean-Marie touched the life of so many. She was a pioneer in giving a voice to those in need and was one of the original 125 Patient Advocates in the United States and was instrumental in passing the Patient Bill of Rights. She was a devoted friend and still dear friends with many of her high school friends, friends made in Flight Attendant School in NYC, and made from many different areas of her life. She was a strong woman, proud of her Sicilian heritage and grounded in family traditions. She loved her family with every core of her being and always said she would protect her babies like a mother bear protecting her cubs. Her children and grandchildren will lovingly remember her for her deep love of the Adirondack Mountains, Lake George, Upper Saranac Lake, Bartlett Carry Road, animals (she cried for all animals found alongside the road), good cooking, Dove Bars, The Florentine Bakery, The St. Lawrence River, camping, quality education for her children, The GodFather trilogy, reading, sailing, being utterly silly with her friends, ALL babies (family or a strangers in a store), cabbage roses, Sunday drives while singing Carmen Miranda's Quanta La Gusta and picnics in the snow. The list could go on forever because she was passionate about so many things that made her a beautiful and interesting person. She will be missed deeply but a part of her lives in the many lives she touched and the memories she created within each of us.
