  RICHFIELD SPRINGS -Leonard N. Young, age 80, of Hugick Road , passed away peacefully on Thursday morning February 14, 2008, in Valley Health Services Inc, Herkimer. He was born on February 24, 1927 in East Springfield , son of the late William and Martha Skinion Young. A lifelong area resident he was a graduate of Springfield Center High School . He furthered his education at Cornell University until he was drafted into the US armed forces during World War II. He served with the US Army Air Corp. in Japan and was a recipient of the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal in Japan . He was honorably discharged in September of 1947 attaining the rank of Corporal. Upon returning home from the war he lived in Cherry Valley.
  On April 9, 1950, he was united in marriage with the former Roberta E. Tyler in Westville. They shared a blessed union of over fifty-seven years. In 1958 they purchased a dairy farm in Richfield Springs. Together they owned and operated the Young Dairy Farm until their retirement in 1971. Leonard will always be remembered as a knowledgeable, hard working man, who took great pride in dairy farming. Any conversation with him was frank and to the point, but you always felt his warmth and friendship whenever you were with him. A friend to many he will be greatly missed.
  Surviving are his loving wife Roberta, one son; Duane and his wife Amy Young of Richfield Springs; six daughters and their husbands, Kathleen and Al Taylor, Dawn and Rex Seamon, Eileen and Walt Yaworski all of Richfield Springs, Janet and Burt Banks of Jordanville, Nancy and Jim Cook of Oneida, Susan and Scott Sullenburger of Lakeland, FL; eighteen grandchildren; eight great grandchildren, one brother, Laverene Young of Cherry Valley; two sisters, Marjorie Buddle of Richfield Springs, Thelma Stocking of North Tonawanda, several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Wanda Young and Laura Benjamin, two brothers, William and Kenneth Young.
  Funeral service will be on Monday at 11:00 am in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home; 40 West James Street , Richfield Springs. The Reverend Wrightson Tongue will officiate. Interment with military honors will be held later this spring in Springfield Center Cemetery at a time to be announced.
  The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Monday two hours prior to the funeral service (9:00 until 11:00 am). Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Cedarville Volunteer Fire Department. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

  The bride wore a blue satin dress with pink  accessories and wore a corsage of white rose-buds. Betty Tyler, cousin of the bride, was bridesmaid and wore a dress of blue and pink silk with blue accessories and had a corsage of pink rose-buds. William Young acted as best man for his brother.
  Thirty-five attended the reception held following the ceremony at the home of the bride's uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs; Kenneth Tyler of Pierstown. The couple will reside at Allen's Lake

  SAUGERTIES — Ruth Elizabeth Kerzick, 72, formerly of Cherry Valley, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, in Saugerties.
  She was born Feb. 14, 1929, in Cooperstown, the daughter of the late Theron and Isobel (McManus) Wiltse.
  She married Anthony Kerzick on July 31, 1949, in Cherry Valley. He survives.
  A resident of Cooperstown and Cherry Valley most of her life, Ruth moved to The Mill at Saugerties in 2000.
  Ruth worked as a home health aide for the elderly at various times throughout her life and most recently was employed at the Cherry Valley Health Center.
  Ruth loved gardening and took pride in her beautiful flowers each year.
   Since moving to Saugerties, Ruth enjoyed walking to the village and participating in the activities at The Mill, where she resided.
  Survivors include her husband, Anthony Kerzick of Hurley; one son, Michael of Hurley; one daughter, Jennifer of Spring Valley; one sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and David Hensle of Milford; two uncles, James McManus of Florida and Harry McManus of Fly Creek; and several nieces and nephews.
  A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2002, at 10 a.m. in St. Thomas Church, Cherry Valley, with the Rev. Kenneth Swain, of St. James Church, of Fort Plain officiating.
  There will be no calling hours.
  Burial will be in the Cherry Valley Cemetery at a later date.

  HURLEY, NY — Mr. Anthony J. Kerzick, 87, passed away suddenly at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck, on Dec. 30, 2003.
  Anthony was born Jan. 8, 1916, in Middlefield, the son of Anton and Johanna "Jennie" (Gabrosek) Kerzick.
  On July 31, 1949, he married Ruth Elizabeth Wiltse at St. Thomas' Catholic Church, Cherry Valley. Tony and Ruth soon purchased their family farm where they lived for the next 30 years until selling and moving to the village of Cherry Valley. Anthony then worked for the Cherry Valley Central School District.
  Ruth predeceased Anthony in January 2002.
  A resident of Middlefield and Cherry Valley most of his life, Anthony moved to Hurley in 1996 to live with his son and family.
  Anthony attended the Greenkill Adult Day Program where he enjoyed playing dominoes, bingo, and numerous other pastimes with his many friends.
  Anthony is survived by one son, Michael and his girlfriend, Elizabeth Baganz, of Hurley; one daughter and her husband, Jennifer (Kerzick) and Billy Prince; one grandson, David Anthony Prince; one brother and his wife, Joseph and Delphine Kerzick of Westford; and several close nieces and nephews.
  Anthony was predeceased by his wife, Ruth; his brother, Ludwig Kerzick; and three sisters, Bertha McNulty, Mildred Watson and Mary Kerzick.
  A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, in the St. Thomas Church, Cherry Valley, with the Rev. John Roos officiating.
  Burial will take place in the spring at the family burial plot in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hyde Park.
  Contributions in Mr. Kerzick's memory may be made to the Greenkill Ave. Adult Day Center, 107 Greenkill Ave., Kingston, NY 12401.

  Miss Ruth Elizabeth Wiltsie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Theron Wiltsie of this village and Anthony J. Kerzick of Roseboom, were united in marriage in a double ring ceremony Sunday afternoon, July 31, at St. Thomas' Church, Cherry Valley. The Rev. Father E. J. Mahoney officiated. Decorations were mixed flowers. Patricia Wrin of Cherry Valley was organist, for the choir.
  The bride was given in marriage by her father and wore a gown, of ivory satin fashioned with a round neckline, long sleeves and ending in a train. Her veil fell from a shirred crown and she carried an arm bouquet of mixed roses and a white prayer book.
  Mrs. Howard Watson of Sharon Springs, sister-in-law o r the bridegroom, was matron of honor. She wore light blue satin and carried a bouquet of roses.
   Miss Elinor McManus of Waterville, cousin of the bride, was bridesmaid, and she wore blue satin and carried a bouquet, of roses. Joseph Kerzick of Cherry Valley served his brother as best man. Ushers were, John Manning of Waterville and Donald McManus of Fly Creek Valley:
  Mrs. Wiltsie, mother of the bride, wore an aqua suit and a corsage of mixed roses. The bridegroom's mother chose a deep grey gown and her corsage was of pompons.
  A reception for 150 guests was held at the bride's home, which was decorated with gladioli.
  Mrs. Kerzick attended Cooperstown High school and was formerly employed at Newberry's in Cooperstown. Mr. Kerzick attended Cherry Valley High school and is engaged in farming with his brother.

  F. John Manion, 61, formerly of Waterville, died Thursday, June 18, 1992, in his home on Stone Road, West Winfield, after a long battle with cancer.
  He was born Nov. 2,1930, Waterville, son of Frank and Sarah Furner Manion, and attended Waterville Central School, He married Eleanor McManus on Dec. 2,1950, in Waterville. He was employed at the Louis Gale & Son Feed Company in Waterville in the early 1950s and later was foreman at I.L. Richer Company in Clayville. Since 1958 he had been a self-employed dairy farmer in West Winfield. Mr. Manion was a member of St Joseph's Church, West Winfield, and the Dairymen's League.
  Besides his wife he leaves three daughters, Mrs. Richard (Janet) Huntley of Clayville, Mrs/ John (Sheri) Pustay of West Winfield, Mrs. Matt (Shannon) Kantor of Leonardsville; four sons, Kevin of New Hartford, Andrew of Bridgewater, J. Timothy and Scott, both of West Winfield; two sisters, Mrs. George (Doris) Woods of Munnsville, Mrs. Joseph (Judith Ann) Flihan of Utica; a brother,Robert Manion of Ballston, Spa., and 13 grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Royce (Rod) Manion, former Waterville fire chief.
  The funeral was Monday from the Wilcox Funeral Home, West Winfield, and from St Joseph's Church. Burial was in St Bernard's Cemetery, Waterville.
  Contributions may be made in memory of Mr. Manion to Herkimer County Hospice.

  WATERVILLE - Grover W. McManus, 43 of Prescott. Ariz. formerly of this village, died Nov 8 in a Phoenix. Ariz hospital after a long illness.
  He was born in Cooperstown. son of James and Lilah Congdon McManus, and was graduated from Waterville Central School. He was an Army veteran.
  Mr. McManus moved to Arizona four years ago.
  Besides his parents of Waterville, he leaves his wife. Betty Kauffman McManus, two sons James, Eaton; Patrick, Oneida; four stepchildren, a brother, Bruce, Mt Vision, three sisters, Mrs John (Eleanor) Manion,West Winfield; Mrs Richard (Dolores) Wines, Latham, Mrs Robert (Elaine) Gerow, Sloansville.
  The funeral was Nov 12 with burial in Phoenix.

Bernard Dayton Godfrey

  A funeral with full military rites was held yesterday for Bernard D. Godfrey, 39, of Madison Road. The Rev. Robert Adkins officiated at the services in Grace Episcopal Church.
  Mr Godfrey was killed in a one-car accident near Franklin Springs Saturday night. He was born in Munnsville, the son of Melville and Ida Roberts Godfrey and attended school in Oriskany Falls.
  He married Dolores McManus in 1954 in Waterville.
  Mr Godfrey was employed for 11 years by the New York State Electric and Gas Co., Waterville and was a self-ernpioyed carpenter for the past several years.
  He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Waterville; Kelly-Philips Post, American Legion, Oriskany Falls, the Waterville Lions Club and Cassity Hollow Rod and Gun Club, Oriskany Falls. He was a past member of the Waterville Fire Department and the Waterville Bowling Association.
  Besides his wife and mother, he leaves two sons, Terry B. and Chris M., both of Waterville; four sisters, Mrs Bertha Havens, Oriskany Falls; Mrs Alcid (Dorothy) Fauvelle, Ilion; Mrs. Joseph (Lucille) DeRose, Utica, and Mrs John (Bernadette) Gratton, Peterboro and two brothers, Melville and Reginald, both of Oriskany Falls.
  Burial was in Waterville Cemetery. The Harry Northrop Jr. Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

  Miss dolores Ann McManus, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James McManus of Waterville, was married Dec. 4, to Bernard Godfrey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Melville Godfrey of Oriskany Falls.
  The Double ring ceremony was performed at 2;30 o'clock by Rev. Frederick Bradley.
  The bride given in marriage by her father, was attired in a white gown of chantilly lace and satin worn over a hoop and fashoned with a chantilly lace jacket that buttened to the throat with long fitted sleeves. Her finger tip veil of nylon tulle was edged with embroidery and caught to a crown trimmed with pearls and rhinestones.
  She carried a white prayer book centered with a white orchid.
  She was attired in a blue net dress of taffeta and carried pink mums.
  The bridesmaids, Miss Ann Fleishmann and Miss Bernadett Godfrey, sister of the groom, were attired in rose and aqua net over taffeta.
  They carried bouquets of rose and yellow pop poms. The little flower girl, Deborah Geron, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Geron of Deansboro, wore a white gown of net over taffeta and carried a basket of white pom poms. Reginald Godfrey, brother of the groom served as best man, while William Way of Oriskany Falls and Joe DeRosa of Utica Ushered.
  Following a reception in the parish house the couple left on a wedding trip to New York City. On their return they will reside in Oriskany Falls, where they have an appartment newly furnished.

  The bride is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Alvin Whaley of 325 Madison St., Waterville.
   The groom is the son of Mr and Mrs Richard Wines of 12 Pollock Rd., Lathum, N.Y. and the late Mr Bernard Godfrey.
   Attendants of the bride were Kristine Knapp as maid of honor from Nelson, Bonnie Boone as matron of honor, sister of the bride from Waterville and Amy Boone as Jr bridesmaid, niece of the bride.
  Attendants of the groom were Paul Sholette as best man from Mohawk, Cris Michael Godfrey as usher, brother of the groom from Latham and David Alvin Whaley as usher from Whitesboro, brother of the bride.
  Gina Dianne Whaley attended her aunt as flower girl.
  Richard E. Wines attended his brother as ring bearer.
  A buffet reception for 85 guests in the church parlors followed the wedding, served by the United Methodist Women.
  Guests were present from Almond, Bouckville, Lathum, Madison, Mohawk, Nelson, Norwich, No. Norwich, Oneonta, Oriskany Falls, Sloansville, Syracuse, Utica, West Winfield and Waterville.
  The bride is a 1977 graduate of Waterville Central School and employed at the Pet Center in New Hartford.
  The groom is a 1975 graduate of Shaker High School of Lathum and employed by Olin Memphis Construction Co.
  They are now residing at the Mr and Mrs Patrick McDonnell apts. on 211 Berrill Ave., Waterville.

  FLY CREEK - James Virgil Truax, a lifelong area resident and true outdoorsman, died Sunday afternoon, Nov. 16, 2008, at Otsego Manor. He was 74. Jim was born Dec. 8, 1933 in Cooperstown, a son of the late Harold J and Doris (McManus) Truax.
  After attending Cooperstown Central School, he worked as a framhand for Richard Davidson in Fly Creek. In April of 1953, Jim enlisted in the United States Army and completed his basic training at Camp Rucker in Alabama. He went on to proudly serve his county during the Korean War with Company K, 135th Infantry Regiment recieving his honarable discharge form the military, he returned to Fly Creek and resided in his home on Stone House Road. In 1957 he went to work for the Town of Otsego and was and avid sportsman, and always enjoyed the outdoors. He especially enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing.
  Jim is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Jane Schmidt and her husband Richard, and two grandchildren, Scott and Shannon, all of South Kortright; on sister, Mrs. Betty Funke, and her husband Harold, of South New Berlin; and several nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, and several cousins. He was predeceased by his father Harold J. Truax, who died Dec. 15, 1970; and his mother, Doris M. Truax, who died May 4, 1996.
  A memorial service will be offerd at 2:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 21, 2008, at the Connell, Dow and Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown, with the Rev. Betsy Jay, chaplain for Bassett Healtcare in Cooperstown, officiating. As part of the service at the funeral home, military honors will be accorded by the New York State Military Forces Honor Guard.
  Expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial gifts may be made in Jim's memory to Catskill area Hospice and Palliative Care Inc., 1 Birchwood Drive, Oneonta, NY 13820, or to the American Cancer Society, 13 Beech St., Johnson City, NY 13790.

  In a setting of carnations and candelabra at St Mary's Church at 11 this morning, Miss Joyce G. Getman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs, Carl Boles of Gloversville RD, became the bride of Alphonso D. Mancini. son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Mancini of Fonda.
  The double ring ceremony was performed by Rev. Edward Leroux. Mrs. Frederick Chatterton gave an organ recital and played wedding marches.
  The bride, given in marriage by her stepfather, wore a floor-length gown of French imported Chantilly lace over satin, fashioned with a fitted bodice and bouffant skirt. She wore a matching cap of lace and waist length veil of nylon tulle. Her flowers were a cascade bouquet of white roses.
  The maid of honor, Miss Betty Mancini, sister of the bridegroom, was attired in a floor-length gown of coral nylon tulle and taffeta and nylon shrug. Her headdress was a matching cap of taffeta petals trimmed with rhinestones, and she carried a bouquet of carnations dyed peacock.
  The bride's attendants were Mary Meyer of Fonda, sister of the bridegroom, and Madeline Brown of Schenectady, cousin of the bridegroom. They wore identical gowns of peacock-nylon tulle and taffeta and matching hats. They carried bouquets of coral carnations.
  The best man was Michael Mancini, brother of the bridegroom. Ushers were Ralph Mancini, brother of the Bridegroom; Richard Meyer, brother-in-law of the bridegroom; Fonda, Ralph Polombi, St. Johnsville, and Rocco Mancini Jr., cousins of the bridegroom.
  The bride's mother wore black velvet and pink lace with black accessories. The bridegroom's mother was attired in bluye satin with navy blue accessories. Their corsages were American Beauty roses.
  A reception for 100 guests was held at the Glove Inn, and dinner was served.
  Mr. and Mrs. Mancini left on a wedding trip, and will be at home on Main Street, Fonda, after Jan. 19.
  The bride's going away outfit was a empire-styled dress with blue accessories and a blue fur trimmed coat.
  She is a graduate of Gloversville High School, Class of  '51, and is employed by the Chamber of Commerce as a secretary. The bridegroom was graduated from Rochester High School and operates a barber shop in Fonda.
  The bride has been feted by Mary Meyer, Betty Mancini and Madeline Brown at the Brunswick Hotel, Fonda, Lucille Snook, Marion Cool and Myrna Phelps.
  The attendants received gifts at the bride's home following rehersal last night.
