Allen Clair Gates, died peacefully Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012 with his family by his side.
Allen was born April 22, 1923, in Longmont, Colo.
He graduated from Colorado A and M, now CSU, in 1944, with a degree in Civil Engineering and remained a devoted Rams fan.
He married his college sweetheart, Emma Mae Long, in June 1947.
Their four children enjoyed growing up in Colo. and Farmington.
Allen worked hard throughout his life, starting at the creamery in Greeley mixing ice cream.
He served in the U.S. Army Combat Engineers in WWII, as well as the Korean Conflict, and retired as a Major in 1967.
As a Project Construction Engineer for the Bureau of Reclamation he worked on irrigation and water storage projects in Colo., N. M., Texas, Sri Lanka, and Indonesia. He was the Project Manager at the Choke Canyon Dam and was proud to have earned a key to the city of Corpus Christi, Texas.
He retired officially to Pocatello, Idaho in 1982 and from Berger International in 1990.
Although he was dedicated to his work, Allen was, first and foremost, a family man who devoted many weekends throughout his life coaching and cheering at basketball, soccer, tennis, golf and swimming events. He could always be found on the sidelines in a shaded chair and ball cap supporting his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
On April 10, 2011, he married Linda Shevalier, who added love and laughter to his final years.
He is survived by his four children, Lynda Heublein, the Rev. Bill Gates, Peg Wieneke and Jim Gates; his eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his second wife, Linda and her sons, Derek and Jeremy and their families.
A celebration of life and memorial will be on Friday, Sept. 7, at University Park UMC in Denver, Colo.
Interment will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 3698 South Sheridan Boulevard, in Denver, Colo.

James G. Rule, 75, of Sun Lakes, Arizona, made his way to heaven on February 11, 2008. Jim was born in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, graduated from high school in Eagle, Colorado, graduated from Colorado A&M (CSU) in 1956, and moved to Arizona with his family in 1966. Jim was an engineer for Garrett, Air Research. After living in Arizona, Jim was re-assigned to Garrett in Houston, Texas. In 1976 returned to Arizona where he retired. James lived a wonderful, happy life with his wife of 55 years, Barbara, and his three children, James, Julie and Joni. Jim comes from a very large loving family and is survived by in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Jim was a kind, wonderful man who could fix anything and everything, "if it was broke he could fix it". Jim was a great outdoorsman, with his motor home they would go hunting, fishing and travel all over the country. Due to his declining health the past four years, he never failed to enjoy his family, especially his grandchildren, Fox News, and his two Yorkies, Fred and Kris. He is preceded in death by his daughter Joni. He is survived by his wife Barbara, son James D. (Lisa), daughter Julie R. Coulter (Bill), his eight grandchildren Ryan Coulter (Karen), Kim Rohr (Bill), James Rule, Lindsay Lindner (Geoff), Heather Rule, Ricky Brannon, Carrie Coulter, Danny Brannon, one great grandchild Preston Rohr, and seven step-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 14, from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M., at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Road with Funeral Mass at 10:00 A.M. Friday, February 15, at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 5045 E. Thomas Road. Interment will follow at St. Francis Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley and Phoenix Children's Hospital.

William G. Thimons, 83, of Tarentum, died Monday, May 14, 2012, at home. He was born Nov. 12, 1928, in Tarentum, a son of Mathias N. Thimons, who died in 1944, and Margaret J. (Collins) Thimons, who died in 1984; He lived his entire life in Tarentum and was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the 10th Mountain Division. He was a member of Our Lady of Victory Roman Catholic Church, Harwick. He was a maintenance superintendent for PPG Creighton for a number of years, Westinghouse Electric Nuclear Division for 10 years and Babcock and Wilcox Nuclear Division, Parks Township, for 20 years. He completed high school and an apprenticeship as a pipe fitter at PPG Creighton. He enjoyed collecting coins and gardening. Survivors include his sons, William M. (Janet) Thimons, of Las Vegas, Nev., and Timothy A. Thimons, of Suffolk, Va.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; sister, Rose M. (Henry) Hensel, of Tarentum; and friend, Jean Weist, of Brackenridge. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph, Mathias and Theodore Thimons; and sisters, Margaret Rulis, Mildred Magnetta, Anna Horzempa, Gertrude Mastro and infant sister, Kathleen Thimons. Relatives and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at DUSTER FUNERAL HOME INC., Tenth Avenue at Corbet Street, Tarentum, 724-224-1526. EAST SPRINGFIELD — Mrs. Iva C. Walker, 73, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 19, 1999, at her residence.
She was born Oct. 30, 1925, in Cooperstown, the daughter of Irving and Anita (Gilcrist) Judson.
On May 10, 1947, she married Kenneth Walker in the United Methodist Church, Cherry Valley; he survives.
Mrs. Walker graduated from East Springfield School in 1944. She and Ken enjoyed country dancing around the area for 60 years. She was a homemaker and helped on the family dairy farm in Springfield.
Besides her husband, Kenneth Walker of East Springfield, she is survived by two sons, Ed Walker of East Springfield and Roger and his wife, Kim Walker, of Rochester; grandchildren, Dan and Brian Walker of Rochester, Edward Walker of Otego, and Tonya Walker of North Carolina; a great-granddaughter, Taliya Walker; two sisters, Gertrude Spraker and Virginia Armstrong of Springfield Center; an aunt and uncle, Clarence and Lucille Gilcrist of Cooperstown; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Oct. 22, 1999. at 11 a.m. at the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley, with Mr. Lyman Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Springfield Cemetery, Springfield Center.
Calling hours will take place from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 21, at the funeral home.
Contributions in Mrs. Walker's memory may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice, Oneonta.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth A. Walker, Cherry Valley RD l, were honored at a 25th wedding anniversary party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fabian J. Bressett in Cherry Valley, Saturday evening, May 13, with 35 relatives and friends present.
Kenneth AS. Walker, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Walker, Fort Plain RD 3, and Iva Judson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Irving Judson, Springfield, were married in the Cherry Valley Methodist Church, May 10, 1947 by the late Rev. Charles M. Fulton.
The couple received many gifts, cards and money. A corsage was presented to Mrs. Walker by their sons Edward and Roger.
Mr. and Mrs. Walker cut a four-tiered anniversary cake made by Mrs. Ernest Whiteman, Cherry Valley.
Relatives and friends were present from Richfield Springs, Foinda, Fort Plain, Springfield, Fly Creek and Cherry Valley.

SPRINGFIELD CENTER ... Two "Showers" have been recently given for Miss Virginia Judson, Springfield who is soon to marry Enos Armstrong, son of Mr. and Mrs, William Armstrong. The first was given by Mrs. Clarence Armstrong July 19th. This was a "Variety Shower". The second one was given last Wednesday evening by Mrs. George C. Hinds, Springfield to 20 guests. This was a "Kitchen Shower". Ice cream and cake and coffee were served.

SPRINGFIELD CENTER - Virginia Anita Judson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Irving Judson of Springfield, and Enos Armstrong, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Armstrong, of Springfield Center, were married Saturday, August 9, in the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, Springfield Center, at 10 a.m., by the Reverend Michael Mahoney.
The bride was given away by her father and wore a white ballerina length gown of white Chantilly lace over white satin, an Illusion veil with rhinestones and beaded cornet and carried a bouquet of white orchids and white roses.
Her matron of honor, Mrs. Robert Evans of Utica, sister of the groom, wore a pink nylon net over taffeta with matching hat and carried a colonial bouquet.
Thomas Armstrong, brother of the groom, was best man. Clarence Armstrong, also a brother of the groom, and Kenneth Walker, brother-in-iaw of the bride, acted as ushers. Flowers were carried by Robert Brodie and Georgia Hinds.
Traditional wedding music was played by Mrs. Harland Smith who also sang very nicely.
The mother of the bride wore a print dress with navy accessories and her corsage was red roses. The bridegroom's mother wore a beige nylon acetate gown and her corsage was yollow roses.
Over 110 guests attended the reception at Van's, Starkvllle. Guests were present from New York City, Pleasantvllle, Conn., Little Falls, Salt Springvllle, Fly Creek, Cooperstown and Springfield Center.
Both the bride and groom are graduates of Springfield Central School.
The bride was employed at the
Sportswear at Richfield Springs and the groom at Remington Rand, Ilion
Prenuptial showers were given by Mrs. George Hinds, Mrs. Robert Evans, Mrs. Clarence Armstrong and the employees of the Sportswear entertained the bride at a dinner and she was presented with gifts.
Mr. and Mrs. Ar,strong purchased the home of Mrs. Bertha Miller and have been busy getting it ready.
