  ONEONTA Charles Shader, 89, died unexpectedly at his home on February 27, 2013.
  Born in Little Falls, he was the son of Charles Shader Sr. and Alice (Freeman) Shader.
  Chuck graduated from the Cooperstown High School. While in Cooperstown, he and a team of friends played a game of town ball before the very first official game at Doubleday Field.
  On May 21, 1944, he married his wife of 69 years, Marion Sweet Shader.
  He is also survived by his son, Michael Shader and wife Debbie; daughter, Jo Bordinger and husband Morry. Chuck has five grandchildren, Patrick Okelly and wife Jamie, Michael Bordinger-Lutz and husband Michael, Charles Bordinger, Samantha Ballard and husband Jason and Maureen Shader; 10 great-grandchildren, Anthony, Clinton, Cali, Anna, Skylah, Meghan, Garrett, Maxton John, Lilian and Clark; and one great-great-grandchild, Oskar.
  Chuck enjoyed a very full life with his family and friends. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a flight engineer. Following his service in the military he attended Spartan School of Aviation in Tulsa, Okla., which brought him to the Catskill Airport where he instructed, maintained equipment and flew charter flights.
  In 1950, Chuck started his career of 33 years at Scintilla-now Amphenol in Sidney as a field rep. During this position he was proud to be called to work on the Independence The Flying Whitehouse. During his tenure at Amphenol he worked up to the position of Manager of Engine Products.
  He served as President of the Aviation Distributors Manufacturers Association. He was awarded the Charles Taylor Master Mechanic Award from the Department of Transportation Federal Aviation Administration.
  He was also a trustee and on the building committee for the First United Methodist Church.After retirement, he continued in the aviation field as an expert witness and consultant.
  Chuck and his wife enjoyed traveling, especially to Myrtle Beach. They've been known to clear the dance floor several times, doing the light fantastic.
  A gadget guru, Chuck also had numerous switches, gismos, and gadgets to turn on the lights, TV, etc. You name it; he had an interesting way to do it.Golf was one of his favorite pastimes. He could be found at any given time on the golf course unless there was an impending tornado or 2 feet of snow on the first tee.
  If you needed anything fixed or knives sharpened, Chuck was your guy. Pizzalands knives were never sharper and the First United Methodist Church was always in tip top shape if he had anything to do with it.
  It made him so pleased to be helping someone, no matter the task.
  Pop, Dad, Chuck, and Pop Pop, as he was known by his family, will be greatly missed but we know he is playing golf and fixing everything that needs fixing.
  Calling hours will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013, in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta.Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, March 3, 2013, at the First United Methodist Church, 66 Chestnut St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Teressa Sivers, officiating.
  Burial will be held at a later date in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery, Oneonta.
  In lieu of flowers, Chuck would be so pleased to have donations made in his memory to the Leatherstocking Honor Flight, SCCSC, P.O. Box 621, Cobleskill, NY 12043. This organization flies World War II veterans to the WWII Memorial and honors these wonderful people for their services.

 - Mom was a teacher in NY, at the Knox Scholl for Girls in Cooperstown. That is where she met Dad. She taught English, Math, and German. They met on a blind date. After two years teaching at the school, she resigned and returned to Springfield, MA. Dad went there too and rented a room from her family and worked in a local factory until the end of WWII.   MOHAWK - Herman J. "Sonny" Baylor, Jr., age 79, of State Route #28, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, April 29, 2006 in Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown.
   He was born on January 6, 1927, in Little Falls, a son of the late Herman James and Sophie Unser Baylor. He was raised and educated in Little Falls and worked the farm with his father. On June 19, 1948 he married the former Mabel Irene Smith. A loving and devoted union of twenty years until her passing on October 10, 1968. For many years he worked as a master carpenter-cabinet maker for the Ilion Lumber Company. In 1965 he went to work for Remington Arms as a machinist retiring as a foreman on April 30, 1985 due to declining health problems resulting from childhood polio. He had a wide variety of interests; talking on his CB to friends near or as far as the Antarctic or more recently mastering the computer to find new ways of keeping in touch and making new friends. His love of the outdoors and nature took him on many road adventures in his truck.
   A truly Christian man, Herman enjoyed people and lived his life to the fullest. He will always be remembered and admired as a loving and giving person. His "can do" attitude was an inspiration to all who knew him. Never letting any physical challenges deter him, he was always there for anyone in need, weather it was stopping to help a stranger in need or running errands for family or friends. To his family he was the rock and strength; the one they leaned on in troubled times. He was their hero and will be greatly missed.
   Surviving him are three loving daughters and their families, Faith and William Phillips, Sr. of Frankfort, grandson William Phillips II and his wife Meg, great-grandson William III and great granddaughter Rebecca Phillips all of Utica, grandson Bradley Phillips and his wife Penny of Poland, great-grandchildren, Rachel, Ryan and Page; daughter Dolly Lee and her husband Rodney Fikes of Mohawk, with whom Herman has resided; a daughter Rose Marie Hargrove passed away on October 29, 1996, granddaughter, Amie Lynne Hargrove and companion Steve Mosher of Fairfield, great-grandchildren Cameron and Olivia, grandson Kenneth Allen Hargrove and his wife Sheba of Schenectady, granddaughter Kelly an and her husband Scott Hoke of Ilion, great-grandsons Korey Erik and Collin; daughter Pamela Jean McGiven and her husband Francis of Johnsonville, granddaughter, Melissa and husband Scott Weibel of Richfield Springs, great-grandchildren Alena and Elis, grandson Francis McGiven Jr. and his wife Tiffany, great-grandson Hunter all of Mohawk, grandson Ryan McGiven and his wife Emily of Corinth, granddaughter, Sarah Dumdei and her husband Brandon, great-grandson Tyler all of Texarkana, TX; sisters, Sophie Hopper of Richfield Springs, Theresa "Ishy" Marko of Herkimer, brothers Donald Baylor Sr., and his wife Patricia, nephew Jason Baylor all of Mohawk, brother Richard Baylor, Sr., and his wife Eleanor, nephews, Chuck and Eddie Baylor all of Little Falls, two sisters Jean Hyde and her husband Robert, Patricia Cook and her husband Kenneth all of Mohawk, a sister-in-law Marion Baylor of Herkimer, a very close and special cousin "Dougie" William Unser of Little Falls, who during the time Herman was housebound, Dougie would spend many hours, sharing stories of the old times, talking sports or taking pictures of the wild life in Herm?s back yard. Besides his parents, wife Mabel, and daughter Rose Marie Hargrove, he was preceded in death by two brothers, an infant twin, Herbert, and Albert Baylor two sisters, Adlaide Wollaber and Carmane "Chick" Phillips and his two canine companions Pugsley and Penny.
   The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Dale Adamson and Dr. Venerus of Little Falls, the two volunteers of Cedarville Emergency who assisted the family, MOVAC and Rural Metro and the medical staff of the third floor In-patient Care of Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown.
   A graveside service will be held in Mohawk Cemetery on Saturday at 10:00 am. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, 516 Careu Street, Springfield, MA 01104. Funeral arrangements are with Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., Herkimer.

Marriage Notes for Diana Lou Helmer and James Lanson Nupp

 - Wedding Announcement (Observer-Dispatch, Utica, NY, Sunday, September 15, 1957)
  Miss Diana Lou Helmer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Quentin Helmer, Middleville, and James Lanson Nupp, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lanson Nupp, Cleveland, Ohio, were married Sept .7, in the First Methodist Church, Middleville. The Rev. Nelson Reppert officiated.
  Miss Paula Feusier, Smithville, Ohio, was the maid of honor. The bridesmaids were Misses Linda and Melissa Helmer, sisters of the bride.
  Eugene Nupp, brother of the bridegroom, acted as the best man. Vern Ripley and
Willis Edeman ushered.
   The bride, escorted by her father, chose an imported ivory silk taffeta gown, fashioned with French needlepoint lace bodice, a Sabrina neckline, long sleeves and a bouffant skirt accented with lace appliques, hand embroidered with pearls and sequins. The underskirt ending in a chapel train, was outlined with lace flounces. Her fingertip veil of French illusion, outlined with matching lace, was caught to a queen's crown of pearls and rhinestones. The bride carried a cascade bouquet of white mums and stephanotis, centered with a white orchid.
  The honor attendant was attired in a shrimp embroidered taffeta ballerina length gown, fashioned with an empirewaist draped with a deeper tone, and a scooped neckline. She wore a shoulder length veil attached to a sequined crown, and
bronze mums.
  The bridesmaids were dressed in matching blue gowns, and carried yellow mums.
  Following a reception at the Black Dahlia, Poland, the couple left for a trip to the Pocono Mountains.
  Mrs. Nupp is a graduate of Baldwin Wallace College, where she was a member of Delta Zeta sorority. She is employed as a teacher in the Lakewood, Ohio school system.
  Mr. Nupp is a graduate of Baldwin Wallace College, and was a member of ATO fraternity. He serves in the armed forces in Japan and is presently employed by the Glidden Co.
