Funeral Services Thursday in Michigan for Gertrude Rider, 47
Funeral services for Spencerville native Gertrude L. Rider of Coldwater, Mich., will be held at 3:00 p.m. this Thursday at the Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater, Mich., with the Rev. Fred, Hamlin of Stokes Chapel officiating.
Mrs. Rider died Monday afternoon at Coldwater Hospital following a long illness.
She was born Aug. 30, 1940, the daughter of Harold and Kathryn (Parrot) Bowen. Her father survives at Spencerville.
On Dec. 24,1960, she was married to D. Richard Rider, who also survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Stephen Rider of Holland Mich., and Jeffrey Rider of Coldwater; one daughter, Barbara Ann Rider of Kalamazoo; two grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Gene (Shirley) Goodwin of Urbana, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her mother, who died in January of 1987.
Mr. and Mrs. Rider moved to Coldwater in 1970, and until her illness had been a music teacher, at Jennings Elementary School in Quincy, Mich.
She received her bachelor of arts degree in education from Wright State University in 1972, followed by her master's degree in 1979. She was a member of Elfa Z Delta Sorority; Michigan and Quincy Educational Associations; and was a member and former director of the Sweet Adelines chapter at Coldwater.
She attended Stokes Chapel Church.
Burial will be in Knauss Cemetery at Kinderhook, Mich.
Preferred memorial is the Quincy Community Scholarship Fund.
