  Gerald M. Elsass, 81, of Wapakoneta, died at 6:40 p.m. Monday, Nov. 15, 2004, at the Gardens of Wapakoneta.
He was born June 20, 1923, in Auglaize County to John Leo and Carrie Lucinda Christler Elsass, who are both deceased. On Nov. 6, 1948, he married Carmen Joan Bodey, who preceded him in death Dec. 22, 1999.
  Survivors include two sons, Rory "Chip" (LeAnn) Elsass of Wapakoneta and Shawn Elsass of Monterey, Calif., two daughters, Deborah (Don) lillard of Bellefontaine and Dianna (David) Focht of Belle Center; three brothers, Richard (Mary) Elsass of New Knoxville, Ted (Jan) Elsass of Celina and Ned (Betty) Elsass of Michigan; three sisters, Marjorie Daugherty of Goetzville, Mich., Shirley (Jim) Logaman of New Knoxville and Sharon (Bill) Clark of Lima; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
  Mr. Elsass was preceded in death by three brothers, Howard, Donald and Walter Elsass; three sisters, Bernice Whetstone and Bonnie Hughes; and two grandchildren.
  Mr. Elsass was retired from Norfolk & Southern Railroad where he had been a brakeman and
conductor. He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church and the Wapak Eagles Aerie 691. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Matthew Luthern Church near Cridersville, with the Rev. james C. Couser officiating. Burial will follow at St. Matthew Cemetery.
  Friends may call from 11 a.m to 3 p.m. and 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Bayliff & son Funeral Home in Cridersville, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
  Memorial contributions may be given to St. Matthew Lutheran Church Building Fund.

  New Bremen
  CAROL "DEENIE' FLEDDERJOHANN, 83, died at 11:25 a.m. Oct. 26, 1993, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys.
  She was born Jan. 27, 1910, near Spencerville, to Louis and Edith Overley Neitermayer. Her mother, Edith Overly Neitermayer Brodbeck, survives in St. Marys.
  On July 19, 1937, she married Emil A. "Flip" Fledderjohann, who died Dec. II, 1992.
Mrs. Fledderjohann was a homemaker and had worked as a clerk at Garman's Store in New Bremen.
  She was a member of Zion Church of New Bremen and a charter member of the New Bremen Historical Society.
  Survivors include two sons, Thomas Fledderjohann of New Knoxville and Max Fledderjohann of New Bremen; and seven grandchildren.
  She was preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence Neitermayer.
  Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Gilberg Funeral Home, New Bremen. The Rev. Lysle Schmidt will officiate.
  Burial will be in the German Protestant Cemetery, New Bremen.
  Friends may call 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

  Spencerville
  Dorothy R. Mericle, 84, died at 10:30 p.m. January 10, 2002, in the home of her son in Midland, Texas.
  She was born Oct. 5, 1917, in Spencerville to Leo H. and Alta Overly Sherman, who preceded her in death. On Oct. 12, 1940, she married Norman E. Mericle, who died May 17, 1967.
  Mrs. Mericle was a retired mail carrier with the Spencerville Post Office and had worked at the Nameplate Monogram Co. She was a 1935 graduate of Spencerville High School and was a former member of the Jolly Dozen Club.
  Survivors include two sons, Gary L. (Sharon) Bowersock of Midland, Texas, and James R. (Karen) Mericle of Oregon; and 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren; and a great grand great grandchild.
  She was preceded in death by two grandsons.
  Services will begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Spencerville. The Rev. Robert King will officiate. Burial will be in Spencerville Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Lowell F Bowerstock

 - Veteran: WWII - 503rd Inf. Parachute Batallion (Fuller)
 - The VFW in Spencerville is known as the Bowersock Bros. Post No 6772, having been named for Lowell and his brother Robert who both died in 1945 in Europe.
  Lowell was killed in action on Negroes Island. He participated in jump on Lae, New Guinea and Corregidor. His group was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation for its heroic achievements. He was employed by the Nickel Plate Railroad before going oversees in October 1942.
