  Mrs. Versella E. Barney, 83, of Broadalbin, died Thursday, December 9, 2004 at Nathan Littauer Hosptial, Gloversville, after a long illness.
  She was born October 22, 1921, in the Town of Caroga, daughter of the late Roy and Mary Countryman Stock.
  Versella was a graduate of Johnstown High School.
  She was employed for a time at the former Swears Glove Co., and was last employed with the Fulton County Treasurer's office until her retirement.
  Mrs. Barneys hobbies included gardening, cooking, sewing, and spending time with her grandchildren.
  Survivors include her husband Gordon L. Barney whom she married August 17, 1940; one daughter Patricia Guy of Amsterdam; one step-daughter Joan Betler of Johnstown; two brothers Robert and Donald Stock of Johnstown; two sisters Iva Zajicek and Loretta Ferrari both of Johnstown; six grandchildren, and several great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
  Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. at the A. G. Cole Funeral Home Inc. 215 East Main Street, Johnstown.
  Friends and family may call on Saturday prior to the services from 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
  Spring interment will be in North Bush Cemetery.
  Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to North Bush Methodist Church, Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility, or the Ambulance Service of Fulton County.

  Miss Versalla Stock, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Stock of the Johnstown-Caroga Lake road , and Gordon Barney, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Whitman, also of the Lake road, were married Saturday afternoon at 2:30 in St. Mark's Lutheran church. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Andrew L. Dillenbeck, D. D.
   Mrs. Aaron Christman acted as matron of honor and Mr. Christman was best man.
   The bride was gowned in green crepe with brown accessories and the matron of honor wore wine colored crepe with matching accessories. Each carried a bouquet of sweet peas.
   Following the ceremony, a reception took place at the Stock home where a wedding dinner was served late in the afternoon. There were attending about 65 relatives and friends. In the evenjng the party adjourned to the Kohn hall nearby where dancing was enjoyed.
   The newly weds will reside in a newly furnished home on the Lake road.
   Mrs. Barney is a graduate of Johnstown High school, class of 1936. The bridegroom is employed in the Mayfield Glove company factory.

  In an evening ceremony on Oct. 2, Miss Patricia Ann Barney, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon L. Barney of Johnstown, became the bride of Burlin A. Guy Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Guy of Caroga Lake.
  The candlelight service was held in First Methodist Church, Gloversville, at 7 o'clock with Rev. Lawrence Snow and Rev. Joseph Beatty officiating. Mrs. Florence Rogers, organist, and Mrs. Myrna Longhenry, vocalist, presented traditional nuptial music.
   Escorted by her father, the bride wore a gown of imported chantllly lace over satin, fashioned with a portrait neckline and a full skirt that formed a cathedral train. A tiara of sequins held her fingertip veil and she carried a cascade of white roses.
   Mrs. Joan Betler, matron of honor for her sister, wore a nile green gown of nylon tulle over
satin and carried a cascade of red roses.
   Miss Carol Guy, sister of the bridegroom, was bridesmaid. She wore a pink gown of nylon tulle over satin and carried a cascade of yellow roses.
   Edward Guy was best man for his brother. Ushers were Robert Patten, brother-in-law of the bridegroom, and Rodney Betler, brother-in-law of the bride.
   A reception was held at the Pine Tree Rifle Club in Johnstown. The bride's mother wore
coral. chiffon with matching accesorles and a corsage of yellow roses. The mother of the bridegroom wore a gray rayon acetate dress with black accessories, pink hat and corsage of pink roses.
   The newlyweds are now on a trip to Canada and Niagara Falls. On their return their address will be RD 2, Johnstown.
   Both were graduated from Wheelerville high school at Caroga Lake. The bride is employed as a stenographer by St Thomas, Inc., Gloversville. The bridegroom is employed as a frame operator by Lee Dyeing Co. in Johnstown.

  Robert E. Stock, age 85, of Caroga Lake passed away on Friday, June 24, 2016 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
  He was born on November 19, 1930 in the Town of Caroga, a son of the late Roy and Mary Countryman Stock.
  Robert attended local schools and honorably served in his country in the U.S. Navy. He was employed for several years as a Heavy Equipment Operator for William J. Bokus Construction and lastly for the Town of Caroga until his retirement. Mr. Stock was a member of the North Bush United Methodist Church. Robert was also a member of the North Bush V.F.W. Post 7097, Fish and Game Club and the Caroga Lake Seniors. He enjoyed his trips to Turning Stone Casino, playing poker, golfing, hunting, fishing, spending time with his family and teaching his children and grandchildren to drive.
  He is survived by the love of his life of 61 years, Louise LaRowe Stock; three sons William D. Stock (Jennifer) of Johnstown, Robert F. Stock (Sharon) and Timothy S. Stock (Stacia), both of Caroga Lake; two daughters Deborah S. Subik (Steven) of Johnstown and Judy L. Subik (Andrew) of Sammonsville; two sisters Iva Zayicek of Johnstown and Loretta Ferrari of North Bush; grandchildren Willie (Melissa), Eric, Jenna (Brian), Roy, Jeanna (Scott), Mandy (Matt), Melissa (Owen), Julie (Chris), Kristin (Kevin), Stevie (Kristie), Annie, Nicole and Renee (Wade); thirteen great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Robert also survived his canine companions Lily and Princess who he loved so much.
  In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one brother Donald Stock, one sister Versella Barney and one grandson Andrew Subik.
  Cremation will be at Vale Crematory, Schenectady.

  Miss Louise C. LaRowe, daughter of Mr, and Mrs. Clyde T. LaRowe , Johnstown, RD, and Robert E. Stock, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Stock, Johnstown, RD, were united in marriage at 2 Saturday afternoon.
   The double ring ceremony was performed at the First Methodist Church, Johnstown, by the Rev. Charles Schwartz. The church was decorated with white gladioli and palms. Mrs. Schwartz gave an organ recital and played the traditional wedding marches.
   The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a ballerina length gown of white chantilly lace over net, fashioned with taffeta bodice and bouffant skirt. Her finger tip veil was attached to a tiara of seed pearls, and she carried a bouquet of white camellias and orchids.
  Mrs. Harry Hayner, Troy, matron of honor, wore a gown of pink net, matching stole and headdress, and carried a colonial bouquet. Harry Hayner was the best man, and the ushers were Raymond Gage, Jr., and Gordon Barney.
  The bride's mother wore blue faille with matching accessories and the bridegroom's mother wore navy blue lace. Their corsages were red roses.
   A reception followed the ceremony at the bride's house with 150 guests attending, at which time the couple cut a 4-tiered wedding cake.
  After a wedding trip to Tennessee, Mr. and Mrs. Stock will reside in a newly furnished home on the Johnstown Caroga Lake Road.
   For traveling the bride wore a navy blue suit with matching accessories and a White orchid corsage.
  The bride was graduated from Johnstown High School, class, of 1950 and from Ellis Hospital School of Nursing, Schenectady class of '54. She is employed on the nursing staff of Littauer Hospital.
   The bridegroom also attended Johnstown High School and served four years in the U.S. Navy, aboard the flagship USS Wisconsin.
   Out of town guests were from Herkimer, Meco, Dolgeville, Cobleskill, Caroga Lake , Randall, Canajoharie, Broadalhin, and Troy.

  Donald Stock, age 79, of Caroga passed away on Thursday, October 16, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
  He was born on October 5, 1935 in Gloversville, a son of the late Roy and Mary Countryman Stock.
  Mr. Stock was a Class of 1952 graduate of Wheelerville Schools and honorably served in his country in the U.S. Navy. Donald was a carpenter for Welsh & Gray and went on to co-own Hayner & Stock Construction. He was a member of the North Bush United Methodist Church. Mr. Stock was a member of the North Bush V.F.W. and was a Caroga Town Board member. Donald enjoyed golfing, playing cards, bingo, hunting and fishing.
  He is survived by his wife Ruth Lander Stock whom he married on September 18, 1954, one son Donald J. Stock (Bonnie) of Gloversville, one daughter Gailmarie Gillen (Mark) of Johnstown, one brother Robert Stock of Caroga Lake; two sisters Iva Zayicek of Johnstown and Loretta Ferrari of North Bush; five grandchildren Shannon Hart, Bradlee Gillen, LeeAnn Butler, Mark A. Gillen and Kaylee Gillen; eight great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
  In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one son Ronald D. Stock who passed on March 14, 2009 and one sister Versella Barney.

  Ruth Ann Stock, age 80 of Caroga, passed away on Monday, February 1, 2016 at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady.
  She was born on December 22, 1935 in Gloversville, a daughter of the late John and Elfrieda Ritcher Lander.
  Ruth was a graduate of Gloversville High School. She worked at Swears Gloves, St. Thomas from her home, Maryanns and at Amsterdam Printing. Mrs. Stock loved going on trips to Turning Stone and enjoyed cooking for her family.
  She is survived by one son Donald J. Stock (Bonnie) of Gloversville, one daughter Gailmarie Gillen (Mark) of Johnstown; three brothers Leon Lander, Chuck Lander and Bill Lander, all of Gloversville; five grandchildren Shannon Hart, Bradlee Gillen, LeeAnn Butler, Mark A. Gillen and Kaylee Gillen; nine great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
  In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Donald Stock whom she married on September 18, 1954 and he passed on October 16, 2014, one son Ronald D. Stock who passed on March 14, 2009, one brother Richard Lander and one sister Marie Clark.

  In a setting of white gladioli and candelabra, Miss Ruth Ann Lander, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John F. Lander of Meco, became the bride of Seaman Donald Stock, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Stock, Caroga Lake, at 2 this afternoon.
   The double ring ceremony was performed at Fremont Street Methodist Church by the Rev. Jesse S. Greene.
  Mrs. John Huizing gave an organ recital as the guests arrived and played the traditional wedding marches.
  Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a gown of white imported chantilly lace over satin fashioned with a Queen Ann collar, fitted bodice and full skirt ending in a cathedral train. She carried a cascade bouquet of white gladioli with an orchid center.
  The maid of honor, Miss Jancie Spraker, wore a gown of blue tulle net over taffeta, styled with a strapless bodies with stole, and full skirt with tiers of ruffles. Her flowers were a cascade bouquet of pink gladioli.
  The bridesmaids were the Misses Betty and Rose Johnson. The former wore a gown of coral lace over taffeta, fashioned with strapless bodice with stole, full skirt of matching headdress and carried a cascade bouquet of burnt orange gladioli.
  Miss Rose Johnson was attired in a gown of green lace over taffeta, with strapless bodice and full skirt and matching headdress. Her bouquet was a cascade of red gladioli.
  The junior bridesmaids. Miss Loretta Stock, sister of the bridegroom, and Miss Patricia Barney, wore gowns of pink and orchid tulle net over taffeta, respectively, with strapless bodice, stole, full skirt an matching headdress. The former carried pink gladoli and the latter carried yellow gladoli.
  The flower girl, Jo-Ann Clark, niece of the bride, wore yellow tulle over taffeta, styled with a hoop skirt, matching headpiece and carried a cascade bouquet of orchid gladioli.
  The best man was Robert Stock, brother of the bridegroom, and the ushers were John Lander Jr. and Richard Lander, brothers of the bride.
  The bride's mother wore a rose colored dress with black accessories and a corsage of red roses. The bridegroom's mother wore navy blue with red accessories and a corsage of red roses.
  A reception followed the ceremony at the bride's home for 250 guests. A buffet supper was served and the couple cut a tiered wedding cake.
  The bride was graduated from Gloversvllle; High School in 1952 and is employed at the Leon Swears factory in Johnstown. The bridegroom was graduated from the Wheelervllle School in 1952 and now is stationed at Newport R. I.
   After a wedding trip to Niagara Falls, the bride will reside with her parents and the bridegroom will return to his station. For traveling the bride wore a navy suit with rose accessories and a corsage
of orchids.
   Out of town guests were from West Virginia, South Dakota, Crown Point, Ticonderoga, Randall, Albany and St. Johnsville.
   Last night, the bride's parents entertained the bridal party at their home. The attendants were presented personal gifts.

  Doris M. Smith, 82, of Johnstown passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at the St. Johnsville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center with her family by her side.
  She was born in Poughkeepsie on March 19, 1937, a daughter of the late Emerson and Marion Fisher Miles.
  Doris worked for many years as a self employed housekeeper.
  She was a member of the Free Methodist Church in Scotch Bush.
  Mrs. Smith was a past President of the R.G.L. Fire Department Auxiliary.
  Doris enjoyed cooking and was known for her delicious homemade rolls. She was a avid reader of Amish books and Romance books from the Johnstown Library and also collected white milk glass over the years.
  She is survived by three sons Steven Clyde Smith of Johnstown, John Paul Smith (Nancy) of Scotch Bush and Edward Emerson Smith (Mary) of Liverpool, one daughter Julie Cody (Dennis) of Dolgeville; two brothers Ron Miles (Cathy) of St. Johnsville and Fred Miles of Poughkeepsie; two sisters Peggy Miles of St. Johnsville and Linda Welch of St. Johnsville; four grandchildren Megan Smith, Tommy Smith, Amber Beau and Hailey Howe; five great grandchildren Nicholas, Natalie, Darian, Daphney and Jackson and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Doris wanted to thank Patty Johnson, Jane Hall, Lanny Orr and Larry Keller for their friendship and support.
  In addition to her parents, Doris was predeceased by her husband Clyde Smith whom she married in 1954 and whom passed in 2008.
  Interment will be in Fical Cemetery, Lassellsville in the Spring.

  SCOTCH BUSH-Mlss Doris M. Miles, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Emerson Miles, was married to Clyde Smith, son of Alonzo Smith, Saturday afternoon at the Lassellsville Methodist Church. The Rev. Roger Williams, pastor, performed the ceremony.
  The bride's gown was of white satin with a chantilly lace bodice: Lace paneling in the skirt formed a cathedral train. The cap of chantilly lace and irridcscent sequins had a fingertip Illusion veil edged in lace.  Escorted by, her father, the bride carried red roses and white mums mounted on a prayerbook.
  The matron of honor, Mrs. Vernie Quackenbush, a cousin of the bride, wore a blue taffeta, strapless gown with matching bolero, lace trimmed. The matching headpiece was of nylon net and she carried a colonial bouquet of white mums and yellow roses.
  Misses Geraldine Cromer and Marlene May were bridesmaids. Their gowns were nile green and orchid respectively, of 'taffeta with matching bolero jackets. They carried bouquets similar to that of the matron of honor.
  Miss Peggy Miles was Junior bridesmaid in a gown of yellow taffeta with matching cap. She carried a colonial bouquet.
   Flower girls were Dale and Nancy Smith, nieces of the bridegroom. They wore gowns of blue taffeta and net with matching headpieces and carried hand-crocheted baskets of white mums. Frederick Miles, brother of the bride, served as ring bearer.
  The brdiegroom's brother, Harold Smith, was best man. Donald Cromer and Vernie Quackenbush served
as ushers.
   A two-piece dress of blue shantung with matching accessories was worn by the bride's, mother with a corsage of white mums. Mrs. Cyrus Van Slyke, organist of the First Methodist Church of St. Johnsvllle played recital prior to the ceremony and Mrs. Earle Spaar was vocalist.
  A reception for about 100 relatives and friends was held at the Lassellsville Community Hall. The newlyweds cut a four-tiered cake.
  The bride wore a blue taffeta dress with matching accessories, blue plaid coat and red rose corsage for traveling. After a wedding trip to Niagara Falls, the couple will reside at 115 Washington Street, Johnstown.
  Mrs. Smith is a graduate of Oppenheim-Ephratah Central School and employed with J. J. Newberry, Johnstown. The bridegroom attended the same school and was recently discharged from the Army after almost two years service in France. He is employed with the White Mop Wringer Company, Fultonville.
  A dinner was held Friday night at the bride's home for attendants, who were presented with gifts.
  Four showers have been given in honor of Mrs. Smith, by Mrs. Quackenbush, Misses Cromer and May, former classmates and the Rockwood-Caroga and Lassellsville Fire Department.

   The double ring ceremony was performed by Rev, Charles Montgomery, pastor. Mrs. Marjorie Satterlee, organist, played "O Promise Me." "I Love You Truly" and the wedding march.
   The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a street length gown of nylon print over taffeta, with white hat, shoes and gloves, and carried a bouquet of white roses with ribbon streamers, and a white prayer book.
   Matron of honor was Mrs, Shirley Mav, St. Johnsville RD 1. She chose a street-length gown of emerald green velvet with matching glovews and a corsage of white roses.
   Best man was Charles Rockefeller St, Johnsville. Ushers were Ronald Miles and Rogter May, St. Johnsville RD 1.
   After the ceremony a reception was held at the Lassellsville fire house with guests attending from Poughkeepsie, Fort Plain and St. Johnsville.
  The bridal couple loft for a wedding trip to Cape Cod and other points in the New England states.
   Mrs, Countryman became ill on her wedding trip and was removed by ambulance to a Cape Cod hospital, where her illness was diagnosed as food poisoning. She was discharged from the hospital later in the day.
   Mr and Mrs. Countryman are residing temporarily with the bride's parents,
   Pre-nuptial events for the bride were given bv Mrs. Clyde Smith and Mrs. Emerson Miles.
   The bride is emploved in the clerical department of the Palatine Dyring Company, St, Johnsville The groom is a mechanic at the Central Garage, Fort Plain.

  The marriage of Miss Carolyn A. Brown and Airman Second Class Frederick H. Miles, both of RD, St. Johnsville, took place last Saturday, September 30 at 2 p.m. in St. Johnsville Methodist Church. The Rev. Charles Montgomery, former pastor of Methodist Church, performed the double ring ceremony.
   The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Loren Brown, RD 1 St, Johnsville. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Emerson Miles, RD 1, St. Johnsville.
   Gladiolas decorated the interior of the church. Mrs. Janet Shuster, organist of the church, rendered traditional wedding music.
   The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a full-length gown of white French imported chantilly lace and silk bombazine over taffeta. The all-lace bodice with a scalloped neckline, fitted lines and long sleeves was adorned with pearls and sequins. The full bombazine skirt with ruffles upon ruffles of scalloped lace was designed with detachable, full shoulder train, chapel length. The train was completely adorned with lace. Her bridal bouquet consisted of roses with an orchid center and stephanotis and ivy.
   Miss Joyce Cool, RD, St. Johnsville served her sister as matron of honor. She wore a full length gown in patriot and nile green velvet and crepe over taffeta. The all-velvet bodice was designed with a circle neckline, fitted lines and short sleeves. The semi-empire waist was accented with a matching satin band. The skirt featured soft fluid lines. She wore a headpiec« and bouffant veil to match and carried a bouquet of mums to match the gown.
   Misses Joan Brundage, Kathy Bell, friends of the bride and Linda Miles, sister of the groom were brides maids. Their gowns were identical to that of the matron of honor's in rouse and flamingo; honor gold and custard and azalea and Persian rose. They also carried mums to match their gowns.
  Ronald Miles of Hopewell Junction, brother of the groom was best man. Richard Brundage, Charles Wagar, friends of the groom, and Loren R. Brown, brother of the bride, were ushers.
   A reception was held immediately following the ceremony at the Community Hall in Lassellsville with approximately 200 persons in attendance.
   Airman Second Class and Mrs. Miles are both graduates of Oppenheim - Ephratah Central
School, Class of 1965. The bride is also a graduate of Utica School of Beauty Culture and has been employed by Charmette Beauty Salon.
   Following a wedding trip to Washington D.C, the couple will reside in Athens, Greece where Airman Miles will be stationed for the next two years.
   Pre-nuptial events included a shower given by Mrs Emerson Miles and Mrs. Loren Brown and a shower given by the bride's attendants. A rehearsal party was given by the groom's parents when the couple presented personal gifts to their attendants.
